"The highest performing canopy on the market"
hjumper33 replied to hjumper33's topic in Gear and Rigging
It seems like every manufacturer says this about their top of the line canopy. How can every canopy out there be "the best"? Would parachutist ever do a canopy comparison ala consumer reports? Just got tired of readling that every canopy in skydiving is the best in its group and wondered if anyone else felt the same. -
Does anyone use a bulletcam setup here? How is the image quality?
-
i think ive decided to try to find a box and then sidemount to my old mindward. I really like the look of the cookie composites system though, but not enough money for now.
-
People that fly this camera have you gone top mount or side mount, and with what helmet do you use your particular configuration?
-
just get some 80s stonewashed jeans with the elastic strap at the bottom, that will work great!
-
Do you already own the sabre2, otherwise get a spectre until you downsize and itll fit better. Did that with a jav j1 for a little while and it worked fine, but still a pretty tight squeeze.
-
sabre 2 is probably the best all around canopy ive ever flown. 90s on fronts are really nice and smooth. demo one to try it out, itll cost you like $40

Any other skydiving EMT's/Paramedics?
hjumper33 replied to everymansaved's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I was an EMT for a while, now a med student. I think the experience will help me really see both sides of the coin as far as emergency care goes. From what I hear around the area, Cahill really knows his shit. If im in a place where I dont know the rules, such as when I was in a train station in barcelona this summer and a guy had a heart attack, I will hesitate to act, but if im at the DZ and its my buddy, im going to call for a rig and do the best I can until they get there. -
Anyone demo an aerodyne product using their website submission. I have tried a few times with no results. Currently demoing a sabre2 150 from PD and their customer service (Kim) is impressing me a lot. Anyone have a similar situation, id like to try a pilot before I buy a new main.

Is static line any fun?
hjumper33 replied to NoWorriesNIkky's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Youll really appreciate that when you have your license and that 3000ft hop n pop costs you $5 at Lodi. $20 can make a fun friday afternoon. -
Looking to buy first rig....is this a good one?
hjumper33 replied to wrespess's topic in Gear and Rigging
I think the best thing I did when getting gear was to buy my container separately. I got a J-1 with a reserve and cypress and just demoed a few canopies from PD. Squeezed in a nice spectre 170, and then some jumps on a sabre2 150. Wound up buying a used sabre 150 for really cheap and knew it was exactly what I wanted. Plus you get really good at packing super slick canopies and can make some cash around your DZ. -
Your Favorite Harness and Container System and Y
hjumper33 replied to MLKSKY's topic in Gear and Rigging
...back to the original question. Has it really taken this long for someone to say I jump a Javelin and absolutely love it? I was under the impression it was one of the more popular containers around. Mines a little older but I must say the new Odyssey I tried on was the most comfortable rig ive ever tried. -
Well the one horror story I was thinking of in general was a very experienced jumper who had a few hundred jumps on a 150, borrowed a friends new rig with a 135 which the friend had accidently hooked up backwards. and wound up under a 126 reserve. Nothing like an instantaneous unplanned downsize.
-
I just got my new demo Sabre2 from PD and hooked it up to my container. Figured it was pretty straight forward, but then I thought about horror stories I had heard about people hooking up mains backwards. I guess im just wondering how that could even happen. Wouldnt you notice when you are packing that nose is on the wrong side or that theres a twist in the lines? I dunno, maybe just paranoid but id like to know what I could have missed.

I enjoy reading the, how do I get into BASE forums for the mocking that whoever asks that question gets. Yet when someone who from their profile seems to be a pretty girl.....

I agree with the idea of going to a real doctor first. I was a high jumper for a long time and had some resulting back problems. Went to a chiro for about 3 months and it sort of maybe helped. Went to a physical therapist who gave me exercises and really taught me how to maintain myself. Back will get ocassionally stiff ( when I slack on stretching and things like that) from time to time but now I know how to treat myself.

First ER Visit...this ever happen to anyone else?
hjumper33 replied to hjumper33's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
When I got a sabre 1 I was told all about hard openings. I have an oversized slider which seems to have worked until this point. Next jump after my cracker was probably the longest smoothest opening that ive ever had with no difference in packing technique. I must admit however, the sabre2 fund has now started, anyone want to contribute? -

hjumper33 replied to hjumper33's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Broke from other jumpers at 4500 and got my usual track in and some belly time to slow down. Didnt feel different than any other opening accept that it literally felt that .1 sec after i released my pilot i was fully open. PS to all those concerned... I am a med student and knew the docs I went to see and of course had my neck checked out, more wondering if people had split their chin on their chest strap -

hjumper33 replied to hjumper33's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Dont worry, wasnt really all that serious. I actually went back and jumped twice more afterwards. Not sure how bad the neck is yet, just sore muscles on the side right now, no headaches to speak of. -

hjumper33 replied to hjumper33's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
jump number 101... got sabred, opened so hard that my chin hit the chest strap buckle and sliced it to the bone. No stitches, just a little dermabond. Nasty riser burns on one side of my neck from the canopy spinning up and some stiff muscles. I assume slider must have shifted during packing somehow. -
First impressions of the Spectre 135 - Interesting Openings
hjumper33 replied to Chris-Ottawa's topic in Gear and Rigging
Just wondering as long as its been brought up as a reference a few times. How do PD and other major canopy companies determine performance ratings for their canopies? We wont delve into my canopy progression, but along with a little bad advice I had also gone parasailing once before I started jumping so I was probably much more qualified. -
I found the key when buying my first canopy to be progression. I had an admittedly fast downsizing progression during student training, but there is no way ever I would go from a 280 to a 135 without jumping AT LEAST 3 or 4 canopy sizes in between. I did 2 jumps on a 290 and then went to a 200 and that was a decent size jump. At about jump 20 I was at 170 and then 30 a borrowed 150 which led me to be comfortable enough to buy a sabre 150 as my first main at a loading of 1.3:1. Would I recommend that to anyone else now that I have read more about the sport and been told what an idiot I was to downsize that fast...not a chance. To sum it all up, spend the extra $20 for the next 10 jumps or more to try out some sizes in between. PD has a great demo program.

Ill be in wrightsville beach for the next week and am looking for a place to jump. Ive seen costal carolina is close, but my wing loading is too much for my license. Any suggestions?

I will be on spring break in Myrtle beach SC and was wondering the best/closest DZ in the area.

Also, to the original poster- if you are serious about BASE jumping in the next 100 jumps or so, I hope you've already considered making most of those jumps a preparation for it. Thanks for the concern and I deffinately am. Planning on trying to do everything in a manner that wont piss off a bunch of people in these forums (if that is at all possible). Ive gotten advice from several very experienced jumpers on the skills I need to develop and started focusing jumps on them. Ill be in norway for a few weeks visiting friends and plan to watch some jumpers and see what I can learn from that, and eventually ill probably do a FJC. Im in no hurry, guess im just one of those crazy newbies that still gets a thrill just jumping out of an airplane.
