I was originally taught to shut down legs and arms and get vertical before deploying. Lately I've taken to deploying from full flight as opposed to shutting down and getting vertical first. This seems so much simpler and less demanding. Have any viewers had trouble with this sort of opening.? These ff openings skid around a bit (yeehaa sideways openings ) the canopy doesn't pressurise as quickly with the slider tending to come down fairly slow. After watching some wingsuiting base jumpers they ALL pitch from full flight for obvious reasons. Is this the way to go or should I be sticking with the shutdown deployments?

Whats your little handshake before you leave the plane?

.....still waiting for the international travellers guide to DZ exit handshakes illustrated of course. My real personal fave at the mo is going to do it and then going....................NUH -
The sabre 1 is a fairly dated design now and some of the older ones around exhibit undesirable opening characteristics. At 1000 jumps up the one your looking at is no puppy. Definitely test jump it several times to make sure you're not buying some-one elses problems. I knew a guy with a good sabre 1 but he updated .

Arguements against Gay marriage/Civil Unions
Trae replied to Johnnyskydive's topic in Speakers Corner
It still surprises me how a lot of the prohibition pundits (no matter what religion or political persuasion) know so little about what they prohibit. My feeling is that this is because they have very little contact with the real thing. Often the worst case scenarios (eg gay sexual predators , Aids or very sick drug addicts ) are used to prove that something is bad for all. With this control through fear tactic the middle and high ground is rarely (never? ) explored . I've known many gays who are amazingly caring people . Likewise I've known a fair number of rec drug users who are truly caring responsible members of society including many in positions of authority. To see these people and their attitudes marginalised by a cruel, narrow minded society makes it obvious to me which camp I'd like to stop in. I'll take the eccentric bus over the mono-culture anyday. -
Used to be gay guys weren't allowed to skydive. Poofter chicks were OK but how could you trust those guys in the pack up if you knew they had the hots for you ??? I can usually tell if a male skydiver is gay by the way he wants to get toooo close during dirtdives and just wont let go of my leg when the DD is over . boundaries perlease. So my answer is its definitely a compliment unless the guy is a skydiver .

Arguements against Gay marriage/Civil Unions

The rights of the majority overpowering tha rights of minorities or individuals (tyranny of the majority ....nice ) sounds very much like some of the communist rhetoric bandied around in all those socialist countries that capitalism supposedly beat. For me I don't fully get what the big deal is about being allowed to be free....whatever that means to different people . Not allowing people to determine their own reality is simply CRUEL. Why not .... If you're gay and you want to get married .. please be happy and do so as valued members of society. If you like smoking pot or shooting up ...here's the instruction book ... with self care included and pure substances. You don't have to hide in the dark anymore. If you're sick ...we know how to help you. ????? Would that be more like a loving/caring society than the current gunpowder version of care. What is the big threat to capitalistic 'freedom' that same sex marriages or recreational drug use provides? I just don't get it. Are people truly so afraid that their well brought up sons and daughters are so vulnerable to these supposedly wayward influences? Forcing these things into the dark makes it all even more wayward...as in a self fulfilling prophesy. Capitalism, democracy, media control whatever you want to call it is looking more and more like majority sanctioned totalitarianism ............not even close to true freedom and tolerance. Has the free world become what it hates???? I can't wait for the day when these issues are no longer on the radar . For a lot of us those days have already come and gone. -
in reply to "Problem II:The patient/floor staff ratio is currently 27/19 in the day, and 27/11 at night. " .......................... Yeah that's a fair tight lock down. My little stay (about 3 months ) is happily in the dimm darkish past now . I never got out of the hossy grounds on my escape bids. In the end was having too much fun and they kicked me out. Thought it was all a dream anyway and wasn't feeling much just passing out when caught. Got tied down eventually and reduced to a dribbling id. Had to close one eye to stop the world turning but it still rolled around. Made some friends in the psych wards I can still remember. One girl in her dressing gown who really should have come home with me later. I became a tabacco addict thanks to it being the most social thing to do. Couldn't taste them at the time. I had the best haircut.... one side fully shaved the other longish. As I got better I went visiting other laid out inmates and they were very happy for me when I got let out legally. Your activities sound sort of fulfilling ..except for the 4 piece model plane thing. Afterthought .. How fluid/electric/blade proof is the security band ? You can only get away with the badder shyte while you're still a bit woosy so don't waste anytime before the next escape attempt cause you'll be outta there almost before you know it. Ps good to hear some french agression kicking on in there....must be getting better real quick. Ciao

in reply to "Note: the smoothest way to rig risers - for intentional cutaways - is to sew an extra set of RW-1 or RW-8 harness rings onto your main risers, so that you can cutaway both main canopies with one pull on a red handle. ............ If you have two sets of risers that are connected together and you deploy one canopy and the other is still locked in a container, how can you cut away both (or either) of them with a single handle?" ........................................................................... Perhaps the author of the statement can help us out?? Riggerrob??? I'm agreeing that your decision to go with option 1 is much more straight forward if you just want to C/A the intentional and fall back on the more normal setup.

Doubler on yer first day. "You're in the money" congrats hope you keep it rolling in long as you want. DZ.com just got me through another day...... without work. cheers

G'day katzurki, you and helx may be interested in the following from general skydiving discussions by' riggerrob' ++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Doing intentional cutaways without a third canopy is dangerous, bordering on STUPID! Especially when you consider how many different ways there are to attach a third canopy to your existing harness. Most old-school jumpers just clip on an old chest-mounted reserve when doing intentional cutaways. If they cannot sew extra D-rings on their existing harness ,some of them even wear a second harness under their regular harness. The configuration is bulky and awkward, but it is legal. They look like they are pregnant or "shop-lifting water melons", but at least they are being cautious. I suppose you could design a low-profile chest-mounted reserve. It would not be certified (i.e. TSOed) but at least you would conform with the intent of the law. However there are several ways to rig extra canopies that are not apparent to all but the sharpest observer. 1. Attach two sets of (mini) main risers to regular-sized 3-rings. "Shopping bag" deploy, static-line, buddy deploy, etc. the first/test main canopy. The extra main d-bag does not even have to be attached to your harness. Just hold it in your hands and toss it as you fall away from the airplane. When you get bored with the test canopy, cut it away then deploy your regular main canopy from your regular main container. 2. Sew or zipper an extra main container below your regular main container. This looks like the "BOC from hell." Deploy that with a left-handed, throw-out pilot chute. Cut it away when you get bored (cue evil laughter), then deploy your regular main with a pilot chute mounted on your right hip. 3. Start with the largest student container you can find. Sew in a second pack tray - half the thickness of the main container. Pack your regular main and secure it with the extra flap. Stuff your regular main pilot chute in the regular BOC. Pack the second/test/junk canopy into a second d-bag and stuff its pilot chute into a left-hand BOC. Deploy the first/test/junk canopy first and when you tire of it, cut it away and you are back to deploying your regular main in the regular manner. I built a pair of these (much modified Telesis F18 containers) for the Canadian Army Team - a decade ago - so they could do intentional cutaways at airshows. Note: the smoothest way to rig risers - for intentional cutaways - is to sew an extra set of RW-1 or RW-8 harness rings onto your main risers, so that you can cutaway both main canopies with one pull on a red handle. ++++++++++++++ hope you'll be taking pictures when you try this.

in reply to"Any help would be appreciated, " ............... This might help. Imagine a mouse under a VX loaded at 2. Now imagine Robo-cop under a VX at the same loading. It's my guess that the mouse will turn like a gnat. and that robocop would win any speed /distance comp. ......just guessing.

How did you deal / not deal with the loss

in reply to "How did you deal / not deal with the loss " ..................... Lost count now Koppel although I used to see their faces all the time now most have receded into warm memories. Thankfully most were not close friends so the personal impact was lessened. I deal with it by speaking up and not tolerating blatantly irresponsible stupidity when I see it. If it makes it seem like smartarsery --tough titties. I KNOW I've saved a few along the way . Myself included -

Arright..didn't seem to hurt him and he always had a huge smile on his dial. If you use the chest mount option I think you may have some issues with the attachment points being different from top of shoulder but that might not worry you too much ... you'd just hang in the harness a bit different. From memory he had the cutaway made up so he didn't need a second harness. Some of the older rigs were easy to set up with removable shackles for chest mounting reserves. A friendly adventurous rigger may be able to adapt something for you.or you could cut down an old rig and use it as a second harness. For your purposes I agree a cutaway on the intentional would be better. I seem to remember his favourite being to shake the shyte out of a bag lock. I don't ever remember him being bored . Have fun ......you might start a trend.

in reply to " I hate the Hospital. I dont give a fuck if it is the best human care Hsptl in the World. " .................................. Hospital escape method 1. (have to be able to stand up a bit.) *Refuse to use stainless porta potty in front of cute nurse. *con cute nurse into letting you go to regular/staff toilets. When left alone throw SS potty through nearest window. Now for the hard part when injured....climb out window . When tested this method failed due to not being able to climb out window over top of wash basins. If you make enough noise smashing the window the nurses will catch you before you hit the floor. This will at least get you a move to a more secure ward where things may be more interesting. Hospital escape method 2. Ya gonna need your mates help for this one. Wheellie /walky in hossy park. Waiting car ........ This method fails when you want to go home to the hospital and your mates won't let you. Time flies when the drugs are good . Get well soon or let us know how you managed to escape. Cheers

in reply to "Why do all the setups mentioned here seem to imply that after an intentional cutaway you have to use the actual reserve? " ...................................... I'm supposing it's mainly about defined purpose , simplicity of equipment and ease of use. Often the purpose is to test the gear (cutaway /reserve) or test your own ability to perform emergency procedures in a realistic environment. For this last purpose it's better that you use the gear in the sequence that it will be used in a real emergency situation. Many people who do intentionals have never had a malfunction and want to see what a cutaway feels like and how they will perform. In this case the tert becomes the real reserve. One you really wouldn't like to use if you could help it. To cutaway the intentional canopy and then fall back on your usual set-up would require an extra cutaway system on the intentional..and perhaps most likely a second harness . A friend of mine had a trick where he had a canopy in a garbage bag with a cutaway from a chest mount set-up. He'd give himself streamers and lines overs on old canopies knowing he could cut these away and use his usual rig in the normal order. Not many people felt like copying this guy. By cutting away the main and deploying the "reserve" you get to truly test your usual system. Sure it's going to add wear to the equation but this is not something that you'll be doing everyday...most likely. As to losing the extras like freebags....you do this stuff at a relatively low altitude (still legal of course ) and hopefully you've spotted good enough so you don't lose your gear.

in reply to "I'm not talking about going the OTHER way and advocating a draconian punishment system where any crime gets you 5 years in prison, but does anyone know where i'm coming from on this? " ......................................... yep got a feel for it. You sound like a reasonable person. Most western criminal prosecution court systems rely on proving guilt beyond reasonable doubt. This emphasis and reliance on being "reasonable " is where things can come unstuck. What is reasonable for you may be very different to what is reasonable for others. As some-one who has been wrongfully convicted I have got to see this whole thing from the inside. From the outside it's just more of the old "of course they're gonna say they didn't do it" . Such an attitude removes the need to explore the persons claims of innocence....for unreasonable people. In a lot of cases true guilt is not reasonably proven at all. Assumptions are made in a court of law all the time. A jury will assume a person is guilty "otherwise why would the police/prosecutors be telling them so?" If you are standing there in the dock in handcuffs with an extra police guard then most "reasonable" jurors are gonna think you're guilty as sin...even before it's 'proven' by selective use of evidence. Over time the whole legal system has been tweaked so that reason is now a mutable thing....mutable by money, power and influence or even the clothes ,skin or hair that you wear . Many legal cases rely on impressions rather than facts. If a person can be made to look guilty then a weak system will accept that ...even if it's not truly proven that the person is guilty. eg a black man in an outback trial is more likely to be found guilty than a white footballer hero. Also the black man will get the less skilled legal representation. This sort of thing happens all the time. That's one reason why minorities make up disproportionate % in gaol populations. I've heard decent prosecutors state that they would prefer to let 100 guilty people free rather than convict 1 innocent person. In reality the odds are more likely to be the other way around ie 100 innocent people get convicted and 1 guilty person gets set free. In my experience most truly guilty people plead guilty...and we're not talking high level crime here...more like low level assault and drunken violence. If they plead not guilty to one crime they will often/usually plead guilty to slightly lesser charges and take the lesser punishment that goes with it. The system often relies on such things. Believing that real life lawyers have the zeal of TV serial lawyers is ludicrous when you've come close to the REAL thing. if you've got lots of money to throw at high class lawyers ?? then sure you've got a chance at receiving some justice. If not you just gotta be happy wih what you get. Once convicted, even wrongfully then you got to prove your innocence. And that my friend is a whole different ball game.

in reply to "I do not plan to try any advice posted on here without extensive discussion, the DZO's approval and proper training first; but I would like to build some knowledge base upon which to ask questions to local folks." ..................................... Some CRW rigs have provision for connecting a tertiary. The simplest have harness loops integrated in the front lift webs plus side connector rings . You can't cut-away your reserve with these set-ups as the rig is otherwise standard. The tert's are small rounds usually hand deployed. A friendly CRWdog may be able to provide you with such a rig for your ocassional intentional. If you want to do many an intentional it may be possible to have a container/harness specially made with the necessary extra connection points for the chest mount tert.

Good on you bro for bringing this all to lite. There's a very similar scam goin' on in ma neck a da woods. It's call the rum and coke. You've only got to see the aftermath once to realise this is a hugely serious problem exacerbated by females who insist on gettin it on with vulnerable males of the desperate persuasion. Our wise leaders solved the problem by making amphetamines , heroin , ecstacy, ICE, ketamine, and a little bit of cannabis freely available to all sexually active adult males. Now we don't want that donkey piss them women keep throwing at us all. Sheesh ...too easy

in reply to "Just my opinion. So what's yours? " ........................ Yep a lot of them are full of it.....However amoungst it all there is some truth however well hidden to our physically dominated world. The nebulous world of cosmic & phsychic happenings is generally hidden to us little earthlings....and probably for good reason. Modern humanity would be like a bull in a china shop if let loose into the phychic realms...all the little pixies would fly away elsewhere as the stench of narrow minded humanity attempted to exert it's small belief systems on the extended cosmos. From the cosmic/spiritual view this earth is a minute pinprick of dense matter and it's correspondingly dense consciousness. What appears as the void of space is in it's own reality a magnificent swirl of universal energy and beauty usually well hidden to our shrouded eyes. Charlatans that attempt to draw inference from their supposed contact with spirits often get dealt their own just deserts of deceit and confused misunderstanding. It is safe to realise that there is much more than we can know and hopefully much more than we can ever know. Our very fact of existence proves that there are greater powers than we now . All things are possible and all things exist even if only in the mind . Thankfully we are protected from the immensity of full cosmic realisation by a creator that loves and cares for us all in ways often not immediately apparent. Do I belive in phsychics? Sure but hey they're only human.
