  1. in reply to "The whole idea of trial by jury is rediculous. You can't expect 12 random people off the street to be able to comprehend the complexity of evidence and judicial process, especially today . " .................................................. Have to agree with this The 12 man jury system would 've looked advanced in the wild west or early colonial times...but now. ?? Do you get a patient well informed jury of your peers willing to objectively & systematically work their way through all the presented material or the '60minutes' jury eager to get to the bar or home to the telly ? In many ways the modern justice system is more like gambling with your destiny. I suppose unless you have the $$$ to throw at the best it can become a roll of the dice whether you will actually see any justice prevail.
  2. in reply to "Nope. It's all smoke and mirrors to keep the price up. AND we've been lied to as to the nature of oil formation. It's not a finite "fossil fuel" but a sustainable material produced deep in the magma of the earth. " ............................................... This would have to be the crime of the millenium. Please make it true.
  3. in reply to "What little you know about the world, UK, US & Europe, we are all the same boat, we have to pay mortgage, electric, gas, telephone, petrol, taxes on EVERYTHING, and what little we have left, FOOD to feed the kids. I pay out more than I earn just to survive. And if I choose to jump, it's food or 12500ft. " ................................ Good on you Stevieboy.... you're not alone. Any-one who has had to work hard to earn their way knows exactly what you're talking about. ................................ in reply to "in reply to "He warns that much of the current effort to minimize risk and risk taking itself runs the risk of eliminating "a large part of what made this country (the US) great in the first place". ..................... Great is as great does Lets see some greatness for a change & hey ..what does it look like?
  4. edited cause too rude ps "FUCK OFF BUCKET CUNT"
  5. in reply to "...are fucking worthless nuisances. YIP YIP YIP YIP YIP YIP YIP ...." ...................................... poor liittle thing needs a cuddle.
  6. ' If you're not with us you're against us. '
  7. in reply to "quite frankly I don't think it will make one bit of difference if the Elephants or the Donkeys are running the Zoo. " .................................... On telly recently heard Mrs Bush introduced as 'The First lady of the World.' Something's gone to their heads looks like . taking democracy to the world ??.....
  8. in reply to "Just want some more direct opinions about this Which is better, AFF or S/L? " ......................... I feel AFF students are missing out. Static line progression is much more of a personal challenge than AFF. And heaps more fun on an individual level. You get the basic skills in a natural progression not all at once. It feels more playful somehow than the often highly commercialised AFF operations. You actually get to jump by YOURSELF without some-one holding onto you . That may be important to you ....it was to me.
  9. Yeast without beer? What the hell good is that? ................... ....down under it's yeast extract after beer. Vegimite was invented by a bunch of drunks. Historically the brew residue was scraped or licked out of the barrel, then the cons drank salt water to kill the taste and chewed the nearest shrub to try and further improve it ... It only took two hundred years for someone with some money sense to arrive and ...viola .. we're all happy little vegemites. You yanks'll be missin' out on one of the best cures for beer induced vitamin deficiencies.... tried and tested by generations
  10. Condolences to friends and family in reply to "people go back to habit in times of panic before changing to new teachings. for example: when people leave their homes they use the same door 98% of the time. ................................... My 2cents worth is that the passing of this Legend may be highlighting the need for more thorough emergency procedures training.
  11. One challenge I've given myself is to do a 1 minute+ wingsuit BASE flight. There are heaps of people who have already done this & doing this on a regular basis. As the playground is on the other side of the planet ( lucky Europeans ) it is a special challenge to keep aiming for . In the meantime skydiving is the perfect place to practice the necessary wingsuit skills.
  12. in reply to "I was talking to the kid's grandfather, a perfect stranger before today, and he found out that I was a skydiver. For some reason, he was downright upset and accused me of "having a death wish". ............................................... A grandfather whuffo ? in front of the kid(s)? at a kiddie birthday party ? You really go for the big ones. excellent scenario for control freak dominant male clash. Looks like grand daddy held the most cards at the birthday party. With skydiving aquaintance needing putting back in line. There are so many ways to deal with this depending on required outcome....? saying "WOOPY-DO' kinda loud works sometimes ( and the kids would have loved it ) orrr Invite him to give a mental health lecture at the DZ on a saturday night
  13. This'll get better when we get out of the design stage and into the experimental. Bring pain killers.
  14. in reply to"Maybe they can point their finger and go "bang!" ................................ Sounds pretty scary for the kiddies. Seriously though doing the finger-gun thing can get you in trouble. It can be seen as a threat to kill putting a person in fear of their lives causing them to react with lethal force...... or even perhaps pre-empt the finger pointing with lethal force. yep dem finger guns are dangerous AND scary.
  15. in reply to " lack of remorse or empathy - shallow emotions - manipulativeness - lying - egocentricity - glibness - low frustration tolerance - episodic relationships (uh-oh! ) - parasitic lifestyle - persistent violation of social norms ..................................... -I've got no idea why you would post such a stupid thing - Are you trying to make me feel bad? - You should've tried to show that all skydiver are psychos - All skydivers are psychos cause they told me. - This thread has nothing to do with me else I'd know about it. -Doesn't matter anyway I'm better than that -All this typings giving me the craps -This is just like every other time I've replied to something here -I'm still waiting for you to pay me that money I owe you. -Phuck this I'm going skydiving.
  16. in reply to "Anti gravity belt/harness - thats the answer. I have been working on this and have come up with the harness - just need the anti-gravity device. " ................................ me too .. I can see this being done at the extreme magnetism games about 2080. Jumper dials in harness as the south pole for launch ( through the north pole rings) For landing jumper dials in north pole
  17. My own experiences of bumping into things can't compare to what happened to a local bloke a few years back. He was found on the side of the road out of town . No-one knows for sure but it looks like he passed out on the side of the road and a vehichle helped itself to his arm. The missing limb never turned up .
  18. in reply to "if you built a huge wind tunnel for someone to fall into, it would have to be like 300ft in diameter," ............................ Sci fi ... A skydiver could fall through a series of decelerator rings. The rings could generate a powerful updraught. Each stage or ring you pass through slows you that bit more till you can touch down onto a slide for the last bit of deceleration..... with a crash mat as back-up or not ..
  19. in reply to"Stupid people will continue to do stupid things no matter how many barriers of reason and common sense you placed in their way. And so I have found it is much easier to sit back and watch the carnage than to try and educate the stupid people who are convinced “They can handle it”. ........................................ yep must be universal. Gets me how if you do attempt to inform 'stupid' of approaching consequences 'stupid' will label you more than stupid. Stupid didn't see how you got to see it coming. I've found trying to change (improve ) a stupid persons fate is often (always) counterproductive. This might be a universal law of stupidity that everyone gets to rediscover for eternity.
  20. in reply to "I'm sort of curious about where and how they intend to "test" their bomb and wouldn't rule out launching it on Seoul. It's easy to talk about bombing or nuking the NK's, but what the Koreans understand better than us is that another war between them would be like NYC going to war with New Jersey. They are that close together, with major populated cities within artillery range of the DMZ. So let's not be in too much of a hurry to offer up massive Korean casualties on both sides of the fence as a solution. Also, for historic perspective, Harry Truman was smart enough not to let Korea turn into a 3rd World War when MacArthur wanted to invade China and use nukes. But as our current president chooses to learn nothing at all from history, the hot button may well be his first choice. " .............................................. Whoops .. those nukes might still come in handy after all. Gotta wonder how Nth Korea could do anything without having the protection of China's masses. In the cold war novel " The Blue Ants " ( can't remember the author) the Chinese masses over-run the world. Nothing can stop them. 10% of their massive army is bigger than many countries armies combined. They could afford to lose half their army cause by then no enemy would exist. ... at least that's how it went in the book. Still a bit glad those Chinamen are in general peaceful farmers ..or at least used to be.
  21. in reply to "We've started requiring our students to PLF their first jump, no matter how softly they land. It seems to have really helped, because students who are off radio, seem to PLF now when they have a bad flare, instead of plowing in. if someone on their first jump stands up the landing, we scream at them to PLF and fall down. ' ............................................. Hope you stick with this technique. Something that really WORKS. The PLF is one of the fundamental survival skills taught . Its good to see the necessary emphasis given and made a point of fun. As students are taught to do it then it could be made a requirement to pass the course. eg a PLF on every AFF jump. Some of these would be very funny PLF's Too often the " try and stand up' factor ends in tears. Try and fall over ... much better .
  22. in reply to "Filling a couple of B-2 bomb-bays with chicken McNuggets and dropping them on Pyongyang would send a hell of a message. " ................... Like it . You could drop show bags with a range of goodies showing the population what their government is depriving them of. A McRevolution?
  23. There was a guy a school called Chuck Baita. One of the priestly teachers had a pompous habit of prefixing surnames with "Master". eg "Master Brown !.... bring that out the front so every-one can see." No matter how much trouble Chuck got in we laughed every time.
  24. in reply to "How about checking the altimeter as you toss the pilotchute and as soon as you're fully open? Counting seconds is not a very precise way of measuring time even on solid ground without the rush of freefall thrown in. " ...................................... Nice idea...cactus in practice This method would not necessarily be very precise due to poss pressure variations and the human eyeball to brain factor. You could try timing a video shot of your opening.

    Hang Gliding

Hope you're feeling fit You get to carry the glider up and down the beginners slope oh... about 100 times. With more students you might get a rest but with only one other person in the course it was go go go . Lots of carrying stuff and putting together dismantling loading up tying down things. The early flying from the 20' slope onto sand felt completely non-intuitive to me . It felt more like launching a paper plane than flying & I struggled in general as the winds picked up.I was too light for the glider. My heavier friend did better . The higher I got the more scary as I didn't feel as fully in control as per parachuting. Bit like climbing too high and not knowing how to get back down. While still on the ropes (70' instructor controlled guide ropes tied to each wingtip) things got bad as I tended to over compensate too late and so did they. As they yanked on the ropes I'd lose control of the glider and do something silly. The thing was no way near as responsive as a canopy or as intuitive to fly. IT was definitely flying me more than the other way around. I had many a crash until I fully wrecked a glider ending up hanging upside down in the middle of the crumpled mess. The po'd instructor left me hanging until my laughing friend helped me out uninjured. I learnt that unlike with a parachute the glider can protect you in a crash . The worst part was that at the end of each day we couldn't stay and have a beer at the site but had to pack up and trudge the gear down the beach to the car park. The hot local pilots made it look too easy. It wasn't.
