I just saw the sickest trick...

I thought there was a vid of him doing that in Eloy last year? Regardless that's sick -
Thanks for the info John, but 2 things I think bear mentioning. 1) What's with the data that's 20+ years old? Is there data supporting your viewpoint for the last 10 years? 2) The 'Someone's dreamed-up hypothetical scenarios and assumptions don't represent real-life.' comment was incorrect. He had numerous case and personal experiences. If memory serves he was on in the police force in Namibia. If I were a betting man I'd say he probably has more exposure to violence and violent acts than you'll ever have. Africa isn't a pretty place when it comes to that. I hope people read this sentence 100 times. I constantly read new (and old) incident reports. Not looking for what they did wrong so that I can point a finger but instead looking for what they did wrong so that I can practice against it. Unfortunately new generations (or cycles) of jumpers never take the time to read the reports of the past. and older generations of jumpers can suffer from the same 'it wont happen to me' affliction that prevents them really taking the info in. I think a lot of things can be learned from the past. So much so that I'm actually considering incorporating it into my canopy coaching. All this doesn't mean we won't make the same mistakes as those who've come before us, but I'd like to think it lessens the chances by being as prepared as we possibly can be. edit: Echo'ing Ron's sentiments, here is a blog I wrote last night. Seeing this thread made me think it might be worth reposting: Blues, Ian To the mind that is still, the whole universe surrenders. ~ Lao-Tzu It's all good, they're my brothers ~ Mariann Kramer

In South Africa car theft thugs figured out it was easier to shoot you through the window and clean up than it was to risk you having a gun - thanks to everyone pretty much having one. I'm not an advocate for, or against guns, but your logic and example doesn't always work when the situations develop. I had a book written by a friend of mine (who's father was a gunsmith). He broke down various scenarios, reaction times, etc that the average gun owner (ie Joe Blow on the street) would potentially encounter. In almost all cases the aggressor came out on top. I think, like most things in society, they can have their place. The idea that a gun can protect you isn't without validity but 99% of the 'Rambo wannabes' out there are kidding themselves about how the situation will play out. Blues. I preferred my Hurricane over the XF2 in all regards except for opening. Mine never did open softly but otherwise it was a great canopy. Blues Ian To the mind that is still, the whole universe surrenders. ~ Lao-Tzu It's all good, they're my brothers ~ Mariann Kramer -
New Ghostrider and Superman Trailers (MOVIE)

I'm sad to say the CGI on Ghostrider is probably some of the worst I've ever seen.... http://www.apple.com/trailers/sony_pictures/ghostrider/hd/ the new Superman trailer on the otherhand (and normally I think Superman sucks ass) looks awesome and Spacey looks like he was born to play the role.... http://pdl.warnerbros.com/wbol/uk/movies/supermanreturns/superman_returns_tlrf3_qt_500.mov Yep, I'm a comic book dork....deal with it To the mind that is still, the whole universe surrenders. ~ Lao-Tzu It's all good, they're my brothers ~ Mariann Kramer -
There's no way in hell that Cutaway sucked less. Of all the 'skydiving movies' it's the absolute worst, by a long way. IMO the order is (fun to downright terrible): 1) Dropzone 2) Point Break (actually I'd par this with DZ). 3) Terminal Velocity 4) Any other movie in the world with a skydiving scene INCLUDING PowerRangers 5) Cutaway - yes...it's that bad. You need to put the clip in video track 2 (the very top one) where you would put still frames, etc. Not the video tracks that you would do transitions between. Jeff should have my # and I've been using Premiere for sometime now. Feel free to drop me a line with any questions. Considering the expansive history of the Xmen as well as the deep, and multiple plot/story lines (hheheheh...deep....multiple....) I think they've done a great job so far. Unfortunately there's simply no way they could have stuck with the original back stories for 2 movies that were about 2hrs in length. Same for Spidey, although they seem to be leaning towards the Ultimate universe in the new one. 1) People should be better about their gear maintenance anyway. 300 jumps is low but EVERY spectra canopy should be relined every 400 jumps PERIOD. By then the lines are so out of trim that the canopy doesnt fly anything like it used to. 2) The Katana has been available with HMA for a few months now (as stated prior). Call PD and they'll reline it for you. Everyone I know who's had the HMA put on has been really happy with the consistency it brings. Be aware though - you will still have to replace the lines for scheduled maintenance. They will just stay in trim specs far better for the life of the line. 3) Call PD. They're always helpful and would have given you this info if you simply called and asked them. Why people come here as a first resort is beyond me. At least TRY and contact a manufacturer first before bitching about them. South East CPC Meet 4 Results
ntacfreefly replied to chayes12's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
The fee Mark and I are referring to is a Guest CPC membership fee - it's over and above the comp registration fee's which count towards prize money. We are all in agreement that if a person contributes towards the cash prize then they should be eligible for it. South East CPC Meet 4 Results
ntacfreefly replied to chayes12's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
In addition I think it's important to note that the 'pro' people haven't actually placed high enough to win a cash prize until this last meet. It's the exception, not the rule, that they even get the cash with the handicap system. Side note, as a Pro I have to pay MORE than a CPC member to compete. I have to pay the registration for the meet (like everyone else) but then I also have to pay an addition $15 or whatever the guest fee is - which is bogus IMO cause I'm not eligible for CPC so I can't buy, nor should I have to, a membership. But because I'm not eligible for one I have to pay the 'guest' fee. That sucks and is annoying. I don't think the cash prizes are enough to lure pro's to the CPC (I think Mark will agree) but it definitely makes the difference between competing if I'm there or not competing at all. I believe a large part of my own personal progression was having the exposure to the PDFT on our Southeast Region during 2004. There was at least 1 of them at every meet and it certainly helped skyrocket my own progression. IMO regions should be trying to attract the pro's to help the upcoming pilots progress faster.
