Not saying that. If they start building up a large collection of property, they should be paying property tax. We are all engines of karma

Couldn't agree more. Maybe give them a break on their primary property. But all secondary property holdings must pay tax. We are all engines of karma

Americans Want the Honor of "Earned Success"
StreetScooby replied to StreetScooby's topic in Speakers Corner
My wife's family lives in a small village outside of Huddersfield, England. There's a council house on the street in which a family has been on the dole the entire time their kids were raised. The oldest daughter recently went and had a child out of wedlock so she could continue that fine tradition. We are all engines of karma -

If we're being serious, agreed. Fortunately, I've never had to witness that. We are all engines of karma

Why, because of the surface tension calculations? They're a bit tricky, but someone here can help you We are all engines of karma

Why are you using viscosity in a volume calculation? Looking to account for surface tension before it overflows? We are all engines of karma

Thanks for the interpretation I lived in Edinburgh for two years. I'll never forget my first direct encounter with a Scotsman. I was walking down Princess street from my hotel, looking for something. I asked this guy directions. Literally didn't understand a single word he said. We are all engines of karma

Didn't understand a word she said... Something about "fighting for a cause?"

A market for riot protection? Wow, only in England... Who in their right mind would underwrite that? Business Owner - "Here are the pictures the cops took." LOL... We are all engines of karma

Would I kill someone stealing my car? No, not even if the law allowed it. Would I kill someone ransacking a business that I spent my life building, that provides mine and my families livelihood? Absolutely, especially knowing the police would simply take pictures after the fact. We are all engines of karma

Defending your business from wanton thugs? Absolutely, IMO. We are all engines of karma

What is most striking to me about the London riots is people have no way to defend their property or livelihoods. The cops are just taking pictures... Incredible. We are all engines of karma

Excellent article on inheritance/death tax: http://www.realclearmarkets.com/articles/2011/08/09/why_taxing_the_rich_does_not_work_99172.html Real numbers, even net present values! We are all engines of karma -

Absolutely it's grandstanding, especially at this point in time. The head of S&P is a liberal arts major. I would love to see what positions Soros took today, and I bet they were dialed in before S&P made their call. We are all engines of karma

Ben Franklin on the politician's pay rates
StreetScooby replied to jdfreefly's topic in Speakers Corner
Won't argue that, but getting that salary and benefits for life after 2 years of service is a bit much. I could be wrong on the salary, but that's my understanding. We are all engines of karma -
The Beast Is Starved: Welcome to the Next Great Depression

As the USC article said, there are extremely wealthy families that are happy paying additional amounts to the government. That's fine. God bless them. For the government to make it a policy to confiscate private property at death isn't fair to those families that have earned that wealth. There must be limits on government power. That's what our constitution is all about. Even the USC article says there's not alot of money there, in the context of $1.5T dollar a year deficits, and as such it makes no sense to make that part of tax policy. We are all engines of karma -

Ah, you got this from another article, that still doesn't use your number. Here's the number they use... I know better than to ask this, but where do you get the 1%/year? I'm guessing you're making it up. Even with your estimate of $2T/decade, that's only $200B/year. Not even close to paying for Obama's vision. BTW, your guesstimate is twice the value provided by the article you cited: So, even doubling the inheritance tax doesn't put a dent into Obama's vision. The government has a spending problem that it will not be able to tax it's way out of. We are all engines of karma
