Proposed Dem Budget Increases Spending 62% Over Next Decade
StreetScooby replied to rushmc's topic in Speakers Corner
Guys, it should be pretty clear to anyone paying attention that Obama is not the problem. It's the people who vote that are the problem. We are all engines of karma -
I know you're a smart guy, but doesn't that involve sex somewhere along the line? We are all engines of karma

In practice, the highlighted sentence is proving to be a less than stable principle. If the government keeps promising free stuff to "unproductive citizens", then the government takes more from productive citizens and eventually they're no longer any productive citizens. Where's the checks and balances here? We are all engines of karma

+1 This begs the question - what is a reasonable tax rate on "the rich"? I know some here think Laffer curve optimizations showing 60% marginal rate is the "right answer". In looking at that, I did not see any discussion of the optimization's objective function used to derive that value of 60%. Personally, that seems high to me, but then again, I would really like to see the objective function used by those doing that optimization. We are all engines of karma

Very interesting article: Why Not Soak the Rich? It's not short, but I found it well worth the read. Here's the last paragraph for those interested in a summary: We are all engines of karma

My god, this is so good I'm saving it. I know I'm an asshole, but I only know I'm an asshole when I want to be an asshole. It's the other times that I'm being an asshole, when I don't know I'm being an asshole, that I need to work on. Actually, what I'm thinking now is that when I'm being an asshole, but don't know I'm being an asshole, that it's actually the other person who thinks I'm being an asshole that's actually the asshole. Geez, I'm tired now. We are all engines of karma -

Did 'Red Dawn' really piss off North Korea this bad?

It will take days for NK to fuel a missile, that currently can't even reach Los Angeles, much less Washington. Assuming we didn't destroy the missile before launch, I would imagine we have multiple Arleigh Burke's standing on station to shoot it down. We are all engines of karma -

Budget Cuts Could Pull Navy Out of The War on Drugs

Agreed. I'm assuming the CNO (Chief of Naval Operations, which is a really powerful position in the Navy) is involved in these decisions. Just like the decision to leave carriers docked. Very potent statements on their part. If I had to guess, I think he's mad We are all engines of karma -

StreetScooby replied to rushmc's topic in Speakers Corner
IMO, one problem here is that no one seems able to agree on what's being measured, and what it means. That's fundamental to any problem solving technique I've ever encountered. It's beyond ridiculous now. We are all engines of karma -
