  1. +1 None of these require increased government control over our lives, or increased taxation. If anything, government should get out of the way and let the market work. We are all engines of karma
  2. We both know that science, when done right, is a hard and long road. I have done large scale math modeling as a professional chemical engineer. I know how difficult that is. I'm inspired by the "real" climatologist's publications. These guys are asking hard questions, and trying to measure along those lines (e.g., clouds). I'm all for letting them do their stuff, without politicians hoping in and claiming they need more money/power over our lives. As I said in my original post, I think most of us can agree that pumping large amounts of CO2 into the atmosphere is not a good idea. Many clean energy advocates in the media don't seem to have a firm grasp of full life cycle thermodynamics, IMO. We have a solution now, and that solution is nuclear. It's the only currently viable option to meet our society's present energy needs. If we are really serious about this, that is the option we need to pursue. We are all engines of karma
  3. My point: it is not rationale at this time to establish what will essentially be draconian government policies using these immature models. Especially considering said policies will not make any physical difference. We are all engines of karma
  4. I was pretty surprised that anyone even thought of asking that question. Very relevant in the overall picture, IMO. We are all engines of karma
  5. I've seen color coded 4-way diagrams, and I believe there is a convention for the various slots. Does anyone know what this convention is, i.e., point is red, etc? Thanks. We are all engines of karma
  6. Thought I'd post this. Interesting article. I think we can all agree that continuing to dump large amounts of CO2 into the atmosphere is not a good idea. Some of us can agree that "models" are not science. An even smaller subset(?) will agree that having government policies based upon said "models", especially considering those policies will do nothing towards solving the problem and give the government more power over our lives, cannot be justified. 8. SC used to be much different many years ago. You could actually learn something. Not so much anymore, IMO. I miss that. BTW - nerdgirl was one of the best. Always made me think. We are all engines of karma

  10. At the Cessna DZ I learned to jump at (...which shall remain unnamed), they had you step on the wheel. If you didn't go, the pilot simply unlocked it. They never had these kinds of problems... We are all engines of karma
  11. So sorry to hear of your loss. I too had a similar experience with my cat last summer. Absolutely wrenching. We got him from the local pound when he was a few months old. Not the sharpest tack in the box, and we figured he had to be part dog because of some of his behaviors. Natural born killer he was, loved to stay outside for days. Wonderfully laid back cat, unless you were a chipmunk, etc. Would always come greet me after I came home from work, with this wonderful sashaying trot he had. Caught some kind of virus early one spring before we had updated his shots. Destroyed him from the inside out. Miss him greatly. We are all engines of karma

  16. The Making of the Atomic Bomb Richard Rhodes does an incredible job weaving together the people and technology that made this happen. Technology is described in laymen terms. With regards to the people, he explains who was thinking what and why, and what else was going on around them. Tremendous book. We are all engines of karma
  17. The govt will never let FNMA/FHLMC go. They are "profit" centers now. It's evil when the private sector does that, but not when the govt does it. Same thing with Bernanke printing money. Net-net, that is now a profit center, also, until it ends. And, it most certainly is going to end. With catastrophic consequences for everyone in this country. The system is broken. 18. I understand the issues here, and that's why I notice these articles. In no way should long term, capital intensive, freedom restricting decisions be made by the government based upon current global warming computer models, IMO. We are all engines of karma
