  1. Actually, to be even more specific, the Daley's. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon
  2. *cough*noideawhatyouretalkingabout*cough* The worst part? It's never good enough. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon
  3. Totally agree. My main point is that if the news were as slanted to the left as many people think, I can guarantee you the parent companies would be losing money in a big way. American media is subject more to sins of omission rather than commission. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon
  4. Purveyed by very large corporations who really only care about increasing proifits. It's why I check multiple news sources before forming an opinion about something and also why I laugh when I hear the tired-old "liberal media bias" complaint. You know who owns NBC? GE. Yep, the same GE that has multiple defense contracts with the US military. Like they're really going to do anything that would jeapodize THAT cash cow. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon
  5. Let me pre-qualify this by once again emphasizing that I am NOT a Kerry fan or a Democrat (remember ther ARE other parties out there besides the Big Two). I'm sure I'll have more than my share of policy disagreements with Kerry if he gets elected .. and when that happens all the Republicans here will be cheering "Yay, Zennie!" rather than the current "Zennie's a commie-pinko-terrorist-hugging-liberal!". And, of course the Dems here will then be calling me a insensitive-right-wing-fanatic. Such is the life of a Libertarian. ANYWAY... I'm voting for Kerry strictly to fire Dubya. Policies that I HOPE Kerry implements? - restoring our prior international good will - repealing (or at least dramatically stripping down) the Patriot Act - restoring some modicum of fiscal responsibility - getting our government out of the legislating morality business - eliminating corporate welfare perks Most of these are pipe dreams, I know. But I DO know for a fact that none of these are happening right now. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon
  6. I saw the photo, it looks like she's doing it with a bit of a smirk on her face... which makes me think she was doing it in jest... probably to one person in particular as a joke and all the news media flipped out. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon
  7. And another thing!!! (See what you did, you got me on one of my numerous soapboxes! ) Why on earth do people see competition as something inherently evil? I'm as competetive as anyone. If I lose, sure, I get upset, but once that passes I set out to improve so that I can win (or not lose as badly) next time. A lot of times losing is a great motivator for self-improvement. And some of us have improved a LOT over the years. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon
  8. And trust me, there are things in life that are far more emotionally devastating than losing a ballgame or getting picked on by the "cool" kids. If kids can't learn to deal with the small stuff, how on earth can folks expect them to deal with the inevitable big stuff without becoming a quivering masses of jello? - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon
  9. Sure, why not? We advocate sending monitors to other countries. Why should we be exempt? Typical Washington mindset of imposing their will on others but exempting themselves. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon
  10. Well, I personally don't agree with that definition. Self-esteem is merely one's perception of oneself. I think you can be dissatisfied with your current state of things... such as physical condition... and want to improve, but still have a generally positive perception of yourself. On the flip side, things can be going just dandy but you still may not really like yourself for whatever reason. Do I think positive self-esteem is important? Absolutely! But that is something that is acquired (or lost) from within, not from some external source. That's why I get so pissed when I hear about folks wanting to lower school standards or ban dodgeball or whatever because little Johhny might get his feelings hurt. You don't manufacture self esteem by lowering the bar. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

    Welcome 924

Well, as it gets close I can huck you off our local "B". We do have a couple "S"s to choose from and we can get yer "E" out west. It's all a matter of how stupid we're willing to be. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon
  12. Hey Jake, since I know you I'll subject you to a little less flameage, though my sentiments are in line with Mike & Faber. Dude, need I remind you about Nick's mishap last year? Yes, Bridge Day is a relatively safe BASE jump, by BASE jump standards, but it IS still a BASE jump. That means navigating to a fairly tight landing area, avoiding trees, rocks & such, dealing with messed up swirly winds & just generally landing in areas other than nicely manicured grass fields. Unless you plan on taking an intentional water landing, you really do need to continue to do some jumps and work on canopy skills. You don't need to buy another canopy. You can shoot accuracy, practice crosswind landings, etc with the one you have. Plus, if you can find a big enough container, I'll happily lend you my Sharpchuter so that you can get some practice in under a "big" F-111 canopy... they do fly differently. Plus you can practice flying & flaring the line mod... which is what you'll be doing at BD. Jake, do NOT underestimate the jump or the necessity for currency. Don't fall prey to the general American tendency of wanting something without putting in any effort to get it. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

    Welcome 924

Congrats! Welcome to the family! Methinks there's gonna be a mad dash for sub-1000 BASE numbers here soon. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon
  14. Isn't that, like, all skydivers? Maybe I'll start an offshoot of SAM for the BASE community and call it... drumroll please... BAM! - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon
  15. DDDD (Different Dumbass, Different Day). Sorry, just couldn't resist. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon
  16. Nope different videos. The safety video is sort of a "Best Of" of Will Forshay's "Lemmings Extremes", which was a Best & Worst of Bridge Day over the years. The safety video is sort of a "best of the best of", if you will. The video he's referring to is the footage from last year's Bridge Day. And yep, every year you get lots of botched exits and horrifying gear. The veterans will know better than me, but I get the sense that the gear has improved from years past. More folks seem to be using dedicated BASE gear.... even if only for that jump. As far as watchability goes... it is about a 3-4 hour long video, so it's not something you'd probably want to watch in one sitting... but I thought it was put together very well. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon
  17. And I'm sure we also saved a truckload by not giving our troops something so trivial as body armor. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon
  18. - got us out of the Clinton/Gore recession He did? News to me. - great first tax cut Which was accompanied by increased military spending (due to an unnecessary war) and resulted in the biggest budget deficit in history - got rid of the atrocious executive order giving unionized companies unfair advantages in bidding for certain contracts And gave them instead to Halliburton? - told the Kyoto idiots to go fuck themselves Kyoto? Hell this administration has told the whole WORLD to go fuck themselves. - modified draconian EPA standards so power plants could modernize sans bankruptcy OK this one I agree with. OK, that's ONE marginally good thing in 4 years. Stellar record there. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon
  19. My buddy poses this same question to Bushies, and about all they can ever come up with is the war on terror(ism)... which has gone about as well as our war on drugs. On a semi-related note... does the phrase "war on terror" sound as stupid to anyone else as it does to me? War on terror? What? I'm no longer allowed to watch Army of Darkness? - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

    Rock Dragon Owners?

Anybody? Anywhere? They're in production, just not on Vertigo's web page as of yet. I'm very seriously considering buying one and I'd like to hear some owners' impressions. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon
  21. That clip still gives me the heebie-jeebies. If we're thinking of the same one, I believe he was in line twists, got them straightened out, and then realized where he was and panic-hooked. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon
  22. I thought it was pretty damn funny. Homophobic? Sexist? JEEZ people need to lighten up. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon
  23. Looks like they left one out... How to be a good Republican: You can't appreciate good satire at your expense. How to be a good Democrat: You can't appreciate good satire at your expense. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

  25. I have video of a guy jumping a VX (or FX, not 100% sure) off the Potato Bridge. He landed it. Not pretty... but he landed it. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon
