Wow, a thread where most everyone agrees! Nice to see. Beyond what everyone else has said, third party candidates should also be permitted to participate in the public debates. You'd want to manage scope somehow, because allowing every party candidate would make the thing a circus. Maybe every candidate from the top five parties as measured by registered voters? I dunno. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

Ya know, a friend of mine quite a while back cynically commented that he wouldn't put it past this Administration to indefinitely hold onto power through some "state of emergency"/"national security" rationale. You read stuff like this and wonder if he was being more prophetic than cynical. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

Yes it is. Ask my buddy freeflynick. He shattered his heel last year when he hit a rock in the landing area making his second BASE jump. That said, I agree that BD is an ideal place to make one's first jump. We can debate over whether it, or the Potato bridge is the best, but BD was where I made my first jump and, as you have seen, where many others did theirs as well. It's not a carnival ride, though there is a bit of a carnival atmosphere to it. For me that's another part of Bridge Day's charm actually. Bridge Day is more than a BASE jump. It's also a social/educational event. You only jump for a 6 hour period, the remainder of the weekend is meeting with old friends, making new friends, talking about jumps & gear, and just generally having a good time. I'm really looking forward to BD this year. Might just have to do a 2-way with Sinkster to see the look on his face when he exits. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

I've freefallen my Warlock/Ace from 280 & 240 several times and 210 once. Generally, when I go below 300 I'll prime the pins to halfway. At 240 & 210 I also left the flap open. Does any of this matter? I have no idea, but it at least added to my comfort factor. On the 210 jump my bottom pin had unusually high tension, so we popped the top pin and shifted the packjob upward a bit to relieve the tension. One thing I have heard of folks doing on ultra-low jumps is to replace the dacron closing loops with spectra. I don't have a set, though I'll probably have Brit make me a pair. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

OK I admit I fell prey to the rumor-mill bandwagon with that. My most sincere apologies to Doug. Nor was any disrepect toward Dwain intended. I'll shut up now. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

Dude, you're mistaking me for a Democrat... Clinton should have been impeached for comitting perjury as well... that's my point... - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

I'm trying to remember the last presidency where that happened. The only ones in my memory that come to mind are Carter and Ford... and they were both honest but inept. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

Don't say that with Robert too close around. Saddam is not a United States prisoner, he is a prisoner of the nation of Iraq, and has been since we handed over sovereignty. We're merely his prison guards at this point. Saddam has no standing to any relief under any US law because he is subject to Iraqi... not US... law. This will get laughed out of court. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

Moore-So loose with the facts-As shameful as Bush
Zennie replied to captain1's topic in Speakers Corner
How soon we forget... "Mainstream" Hollywood was running away from this film as if it had leprocy. In any event, I honestly don't see why folks are so afraid of this movie. Yes he presents thing in his own slanted way, but he really didn't show anything that I didn't know already. I honestly don't think this movie really will sway the election one way or another. Good example... the "My Pet Goat" incident. MM spends the better part of a half hour leading up to this moment going through all of the Bush family's financial ties to Saudi Arabia & the Bin Laden family... which again is no news to me. So then he shows GWB sitting there and wonders aloud if Bush was thinking about his "friends" and all the financial ties, and blah blah blah. Please... For starters, I don't think Dubya is smart enough to make those connections and nobody knew it was the work of Bin Laden at that very moment anyway. No, it's really quite simple... he was freaking out... a deer transfixed in the headlights. He had no clue what to do so he just sat there. So he can present all this stuff to me, but by no means was I sitting there hypnotized allowing him to brainwash me any more than I let the people on the right. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon -
Ummm.... ratio of rich Washington politicos kids to remaining poor slobs fighting in Iraq... 1 in approx 67500. Lies, damn lies, and statistics... - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

The reason I've branded the GWD Administration liars is because they have been playing "musical justifications" for the war since day 1. OK, so taking thta report at face value, at least on the WMD front they weren't liars... they were just incredibly inept in such paltry matters as foreign intelligence. For some reason that isn't making me feel a whole lot better. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

And why do right-wingers immediately label those who diagree with them "liberals"? For the record I'm a Libertarian... big difference. This has absolutely nothing to do with the segment of the movie being discussed. As far as I can see, as of your post only TWO children out of the 535 members of Congress are involved in this war effort that they so overwhelmingly approved. The point is, and you must have missed it being blinded by your partisanship, that politicians (Republicans AND Democrats) are a bunch of hypocrites who have no qualms waging wars, but leave it to the poor to actually go and do the fighting for them. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

OK that's two out of... let me see here 535. Yeah that's a really overwhelming advocation of the Iraq war. Keep trying... - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

Oh, and you obviously haven't seen this movie because there was more than one congressperson involved. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

OK now that I've actually watched the movie... my personal take. Not a whole lot that I didn't know already. For me the most powerful moments were the scenes depicting the suffering of the Iraqi citizens and the families of the soldiers sent over there. War is hell. I also loved the sequences where Moore tried to get Congressmen who approved the war to get their own children to go over themselves. That was as damning evidence as anything. It was an OK movie... I wouldn't say it was as good as Bowling for Columbine, and I wouldn't say it deserved best film at Cannes, but it was decent. I don't think it will really sway the election. Oh, and I for one will be glad when it sunsets as well... at least then I can get a 15 round clip for my Taurus again at a reasonable price. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

LOL Makes it more of a semi than an auto. What a moron. A good buddy of mine collects WWII era Thompsons. They're a hoot to go and play with... especially in full auto. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon
