OK. I've managed to obtain a.. um... distributed online backup.... of the Doom 3 Beta. This game is gonna blow everything away. There's only been one occasion where a game literally made me jump out of my seat going "JeezusHolyShit!!!!", and that was Quake 3. The Beta has done that to me twice now... I kid you not. Imps are FAST mofos. Demons are now these half monster/half robot thingies. Looks like all the favorites will be back including my personal nemesis... the Arch-Vile. MAN I hated those things. Another thing that was sort of an "Oh COOL!" moment was when I was going through a bathroom looking for baddies. I'm walking along and out of the corner of my eye I see something move. I think most folks agree that dawn and dusk jumps on higher profile objects is in-bounds. I'll have to re-watch the trailer but what struck me was that a sizeable portion of the PT & WG jumps were in broad daylight. If they were all dawn/dusk, my apologies.... but some sure don't look like it. The whole site-heating issue is sort of like pornography... I can't define it, but I know it when I see it. And what makes one transgression forgiveable and the other tar & featherable isn't the act, it's the attitude afterward. JV didn't get the T&F treatment solely because he burned the crane... he got it because of his "fuck all of you" attitude afterward. From people that I've talked to, WG & the PTs aren't "burned" per se, but they're awfully darn warm (but slowly cooling off). - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

Yup. She was the Emperor's top assassin.... extremely strong in the Force (i.e. Force-sensitive), but not a Jedi (by her choice). She was originally dispatched by the Emperor to kill Luke. This BD you will see lots of video of the Houston crew day jumping stuff. Does that make me a hypocrite? No. The difference is that: 1. When we jumped the Potato Bridge, we DIDN'T jump from the rail; 2. Moab pretty much speaks for itself; 3. Our day As are extremely remote (think "Deliverance" remote) & we're the only ones jumping them; and 4. Our ONE day B is also only being jumped by us in a very low-to-no bust part of town. The point we're trying to make isn't that cool video is bad. Hell, I like seeing me on video as well. The point is, you CAN get plenty of very cool video and still play by the rules. (also note my usage of the words "our" and "us" when referring to objects, not "mine" and "me"... you may want to add those to your vocabulary) - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

Welp. Looks like Lucas can now properly have "Revenge" in the title of one of his flicks. For those of you who aren't geezers like me... Episode 6, Return of the Jedi, was originally slated to be called "Revenge of the Jedi". Only after SW afficionados pointed out that the Jedi were about peace, not hate, did the name get modified. I personally like it. However, I heard the lava pit sequence was going to be some stupid lava/wakeboard thing. Well, there were two F/U's here. Neither one makes the other right. I agreed earlier that Don should not have called the Sheriff. Problem is, the Sheriff WAS involved... and at that point they should have respected the Sheriff's request in order to maintain a good public image. I have to wonder what those guys did to get Don SO upset that he felt he had no choice but to call the Sheriff. I like to think that, despite my high number, I'm more of an old school mentality as well. I was taught by an old-schooler (i.e. 460) and know Rick, Randy & Joy. This sport's history and community is very important to me. And yes... I'm all for raising the Jolly Roger... in the appropriate setting. I'm one of those mutants who actually LIKES some of the more... um... "covert" aspects of the sport. I also have some new school in me... I like to do the flippy/twisty thing. Video has been part of this sport forever (and hopefully I'll show that at this year's BD). For me the thing is community & attitude. I don't get the sense that the RB sponsored jumpers are so much concerned about community as getting their latest antics on the evening news. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

The one that's at the forefront of my mind is the recent antics at the Potato Bridge. they jumped from the railing knowing full well that that is one of the only restrictions on that site. They ignored the sheriff's request NOT to jump with skis from the bridge... instead choosing to thumb their collective noses at Don and the Sheriff. Then, when they're called on it, they tried to downplay the seriousness of it and became antagonistic to the jumpers who were legitimately concerned. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

That might be the source of our disconnect here. The precious few legal sites that we do have are... well... PRECIOUS... so we get very defensive of them. The illegal sites take a lot of work to get up and maintain, so if someone comes and hoses it.... temporarily or permanently... again, we tend to get a little bent out of shape over it. BTW.
