Trust me, I'm the first one to admit that I'm clueless. But I also will pass on what little I've learned. Especially things I had to learn the hard way. That's why I put "experienced" in quotes. You make a good point though... we are all students... and always will be. My instructor used to say, "If you ever get bored skydiving, you're doing something wrong." -------- Zennie "I know the pieces fit. 'Cause I watched them fall away..." --Tool

Funny you mention this. It is kinda weird. I don't have that many jumps either and here I am on Saturday with the other folks razzing the hop-n-popper.... "NOOOOO..... Don't do it!!!! ....Don't jump!!!....AAAAGH!!!!!" I'll attest that Slap was pretty nervous on the ride up after the tandem incident, since I was sitting across from him. Just tried to smile & give him the thumbs up to make him feel a little better. When it came jump time he was focused and ready. I find myself doing this more & more, joking with the students to try to ease the nerves. I was there not too long ago and I always appreciated the smile & thumbs up from the "experienced" jumpers. Just tryin' to pass on the love....

And they say skydiving is dangerous... -------- Zennie "I know the pieces fit. 'Cause I watched them fall away..." --Tool

Way to go Paula! I knew you'd do fine! Always remember, no matter what happens, you're with friends.

Glad you're here to talk about it. The ending could have very easily been not so happy. Hope you get better soon. Repeat after me "Darvocet is my friend. Darvocet is my friend..." You're at least the 3rd person I've heard of (skreamer's another) that lost a ProTrack and had it replaced free of charge by L&B. Their quality & customer service is absolutely unparalleled. I'd never buy an audible from anybody else. It's all about Karma. -------- Zennie "I know the pieces fit. 'Cause I watched them fall away..." --Tool

I'm so sorry to hear about this. My condolences to all you swoopers who were there and Lisa's family & friends. Blue skies forever Lisa! -------- Zennie "I know the pieces fit. 'Cause I watched them fall away..." --Tool

I think we're going to head in to San Antonio for the evening & hit the river walk for food & beverages. Hopefully I'll see ya during the day. -------- Zennie "I know the pieces fit. 'Cause I watched them fall away..." --Tool

Yeah, I saw that yesterday. Glad it's going on through next weekend. That way I can do both! A whole crew of people were going to go and I haven't been to SDSM yet. Heard good things about it from everyone I talked to and figured this was a good opportunity to check it out. Plus Liz likes San Antonio (I've never been there) so we're making a weekend trip out of it. -------- Zennie "I know the pieces fit. 'Cause I watched them fall away..." --Tool

Awww crud. I searched wreck.skydiving for "San Marcos Labor Day" on Google and got a hit. Only it was for last year. No 21K jumps. DOH! They are going for an all-deaf world record this weekend though. Still should be fun. -------- Zennie "I know the pieces fit. 'Cause I watched them fall away..." --Tool

I've dove with my contacts on no probs. Just make sure you close your eyes when you practice removing/replacing your mask. -------- Zennie "I know the pieces fit. 'Cause I watched them fall away..." --Tool

A bunch of us Houstonians are gonna be heading to San Marcos on Saturday. How many of y'all are gonna be there? Let's hook up. Maybe we can take a serious stab at a dz.com record!

Just wanted to bring this up for discussion. I noticed a lot of folks voted for freefly. I voted for blade running. Here was my thinking. The question was not what would we most want to see but what would the public want to see. The big problem with such things as freeflying & skysurfing is that the viewing audience is separated from the action. Sure you might be able to rig up special video gear, but people want to be actually sitting there watching the action. Blade running is fast moving. It's at ground level so the action is right there. There's more of an "ooh aaahhhh" factor going. Heck just listen to the whuffos at the DZ when one of the swoopers come in. So anyway, while I would personally get more out of watching freefly or skysurfing, I don't think the average layperson would. And no, I'm not a swooper. Nor do I play one on television. Feel free to voice your disagreement (I'm sure you will ). -------- Zennie "I know the pieces fit. 'Cause I watched them fall away..." --Tool

I;m not experienced but I've gotten some tips from some experienced freefliers... I like the pullup cord drill. I'll have to try that next time. I do a little drill on my solo freeflies. Out in a sit. Left/right 360. Stop on heading. Left/right cartwheel. Stop on heading. Forward/back flip. Stop on heading. I've been doing this every solo sit. Helps a lot. Lately I've added at the end of that sequence cartwheel into head down. From there I'm working on controlling my speed and turns with my hands. -------- Zennie "I know the pieces fit. OK this begs the question.... I know jumpers who have accidentally jumped through rain. Have any of you Northerners ever jumped when it was snowing? -------- Zennie "I know the pieces fit. 'Cause I watched them fall away..." --Tool

Well skinny/not skinny really isn't the issue. It's strictly lbs/sq ft of canopy. If you're tall & skinny or short & fat but the same weight it's the same. Most containers can hold about two canopy sizes before you need to look at another container. So what you need to do is decide what wingloading you're comfortable with. That determines the main size. I would get a container that's designed for that size on the high end. That way when you downsize you'll still be able to use that container. -------- Zennie "I know the pieces fit. I had it between Viking & spectre, but chose Viking because spectre posted this earlier: "Are those real?I would love to see the video of her doing a naked tandem." I took that to mean he was out. -------- Zennie "I know the pieces fit. 'Cause I watched them fall away..." --Tool

My first guess is Viking. -------- Zennie "I know the pieces fit. 'Cause I watched them fall away..." --Tool

This brings up an interesting question... Can a rigger modify a container to accept a smaller main? For example, my vector III (V348) is sized for a 170, but can take a 150. Say I wanted to go to a 135, could a rigger modify it to take that canopy? ------------ Blue Skies! Zennie
