There's a fair amount of competition now. You've got Quincy, the Chicago boogie, Couch Freaks and Richmond. All with in a couple weeks of each other. Given last year's fiasco it doesn't surprise me that folks may be foregoing Quincy for some of the other boogies. ------------ Blue Skies! Zennie

Hey Michele, ya got prose down. I think you need to try your hand at haiku! Ride to altitude. Gazing at the ground below. We'll meet again soon! Lame but I'm drunk & it's the best I could come up with in a pinch. ------------ Blue Skies! Zennie

bbbilly - Of course the choice is always yours to make. It's your rear in the harness. 1.45 seems pretty high for you experience level, but if you can manage it, hey, who am I to say? The main question I have for you is how good would you feel having to land it off-DZ in a tight area in poor (or no) wind conditions? It's one thing to land a canopy in optimal conditions, but after a bad spot? How good would you feel having to do a quick, but smooth, braked turn down low to avoid a flier who cut you off (as I did last weekend)? I'm loaded about 1.2, which is just fine for me. Don't really want to go much higher because I'm just now getting fairly familiar with my canopy's flight characteristics. I like the way it flies and know how it's going to act in most any situation. In this sport, predictability is good. That's really what's important. ------------ Blue Skies! Zennie

Dude, you are extremely talented. I don't think I could take shots like that even in my dreams. ------------ Blue Skies! Zennie

Actually, this is the key in "regular" RW as well. It's much easier when you only have to manage your position relative to one other person. ------------ Blue Skies! Zennie

I'm glad to hear it, but I'm not surprised. I would expect the really good skydivers to acknowledge the importance of both. True freeflying means being able to fly in any body orientation... horizontal and vertical (I'm still trying to decide which sit actually comes under). RW done well is extremely difficult. As is vertical flying. I'm at that point to where I'm understanding that the real challenge in skydiving is controlling your position relative to other folks while performing complex moves. That's what the Millennium Award is all about. Recognizing mastery of all elements of flying. That's what I'm shooting for. Give me about 10 years and I'll get back to ya on how successful I am. ------------ Blue Skies! Zennie

Immortality? Gotta be careful what you ask for there (visions of Highlander). World peace? Kinda hokey, but prolly what I would ultimately wish for. It's a Karma thing. ------------ Blue Skies! Zennie

Heh. That's why I like to do it every now & then. Very calming. But if you get into hardcore sailing, there's plenty to keep you busy on a boat. ------------ Blue Skies! Zennie

Yeah, actually. I have a lot of Swing/JDBC background and I've been doing some database work as of late. We have several DB tables that need to be filled in simultaneously so I wrote a little GUI that displays the current view contents in a JTable (on a JTabbedPane since we have different views). I have some dialogs I pop up to let the user fill in the bare minimium of what's needed to populate the tables and then let the software do the relevant lookups/inserts for the rest of the stuff. Heckuva lot easier than doing the updating by hand in TOAD. I've always sort of wondered about the manifesting software. Some sort of browser-based interface would be kinda cool. ------------ Blue Skies! Zennie

Since I'm nearing the 100 jump mark, I've been thinking a lot about disciplines. I really like both RW & freefly. Unfortunately, I usually have to jump with a different goup of people to do one of the other (usually me, myself & I for freefly). I really don't want to give either one up, but I can tell that I'm just mediocre at both. My RW especially suffers when I take time to practice freefly. This got me wondering if I might be able to collect a group of people who are into both and do hybrid dives. This seems like an up & coming discipline and would be a good way to keep you feet in both waters simultaneously. Be in the freefly part one jump and the belly part on another. 3D formations, with multiple points, to me seems the next logical progression in skydiving. Anyone know of groups that do this regularly? Is this something that can accomodate varying skill levels or do you really need to be super-experienced to do it safely? ------------ Blue Skies! Zennie

AAAAAGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! Turn away from the Dark Side! Learn Java. You'll be a better person for it (and it's a better language, trust me, I've used both). In fact, I just assigned myself a Java coding project today because I've been doing way too much Perl as of late. ------------ Blue Skies! Zennie

Well, lesseee.... I'm a computer geek by trade & hobby. I like to SCUBA when I can get around to going somewhere with decent water. I do quite a bit of reading... lot of Eastern philosphy (duh), though lately I've been reading The Age of Reason by Thomas Paine, which is excellent. Just finished The Hitchhiker's Guide (again) and am trying to get around to reading The Return of the King (i.e. Lord of the Rings Part III). ------------ Blue Skies! Zennie

I noticed the IRC server is down. No link in the Pub and I can't connect via my IRC client. ------------ Blue Skies! Zennie

lol! Super Otter. I can remember when it took us ~25 mins to get to altitude before the super otter engines were put on. When we got the new engines we were amazed at how much faster it was (12 minutes sometimes). Now we're like "Man this is taking forever." Some folks are never happy. ------------ Blue Skies! Zennie

14 minutes too long. Man I'm spoiled! ------------ Blue Skies! Zennie

Hey! Links no workee! ------------ Blue Skies! Zennie

Sorry to hear that Pammi, hope they come through for you. While we're on the subject of customer service, how have people's experiences been with some of the other manufacturers? Since I jump a Vector III I'd be interested in finding out what RW's customer service is like. ------------ Blue Skies! Zennie

I know what you're talking about. Like I said I was just razzing ya. It happens to me as well and I feel guilty about it. You get there & inevitably someone asks you to jump. So you do that and next thing you know your talking about the next jump, and the next jump... So no biggie. But yeah I'll try to catch you early one of these days. Good luck keeping up with me. I averaged 148 in my last sit (max 157). I had to go to my belly & do the flying squirrel bit with two people just so they could catch back up. Back in the sit... bye bye again! ------------ Blue Skies! Zennie

Seen it before. It's the water condensing & collecting on the table. Get a long enough puddle & it'll float for several inches. ------------ Blue Skies! Zennie

Sorry to hear that cyber & pyke. Give our condolences to everyone. Blue skies forever Andy! ------------ Blue Skies! Zennie

Hey Paula, Richmond is where I jumped over the 4th. Aerodrome is not sparkling new like S-land but it has a really nice atmosphere. I felt at home right away. The people are extremely friendly. I only did two jumps that day but had a really good time getting to know folks. If you ever want to do Richmond, lemme know and maybe we can do a group thing. My folks live in Indy. I already kind of like to think of Aerodrome as my home away from home. ------------ Blue Skies! Zennie

I don't have a problem with ramon, I was just ribbing him a little, as I do everyone when I get in a weird mood. Actually, he did give me some drills to work on and I've been working them ever since. I just wish I could find someone willing to freefly with me so I can see if I'm backsliding/forwardsliding and controlling my fall rate. It's hard to figure those things out by yourself. I'm kind of having those feelings that I had before Mikey & Paula took some time to jump with me and show me what RW was really about. Last guy to freefly with me was John at Aerodrome. I really credit him with turning me on to what freefly is really about. He was totally willing to jump with me even though I was (and still am) a low-timer. In one jump we did some tracking and then I went into a sit and he into a head down. It's just so wild seeing someone right up next to you upside down. It was a total blast. I'll prolly be out at S-land tomorrow practicing some more. ------------ Blue Skies! Zennie

Well personally I like brunettes. So my personal recommendation would be to dye your hair black. Not that my opinion matters much. ------------ Blue Skies! Zennie

Hey Levin! You made it over here! Sweet! When you gonna come down to S-land to do some frefly with me? I keep bugging ramon but he keeps blowing me off. Prolly thinks I'm gonna cork his ass (which given my skills wouldn't be beyond the realm of possibility). ------------ Blue Skies! Zennie

And just to clarify, terminal velocity in a vacuum would be the speed of light (maybe ). ------------ Blue Skies! Zennie
