  1. Seriously though. Sounds like maybe you just have some good 'ol performance-related jitters. You have been out of it for a while. It'll prolly take quite a few jumps before you get your rhythm & confidence back. "Zero Tolerance: the politically correct term for zero thought, zero common sense."
  2. Ah yes. It's all sex. "Zero Tolerance: the politically correct term for zero thought, zero common sense."
  3. Just to start sort of a cyber-pseudo-psychoanalytic session here... .... what do you think about on your ride to altitude? "Zero Tolerance: the politically correct term for zero thought, zero common sense."
  4. I'm in. F@#$% beer light came on before I could make my run at the title. I don't have the JumpTrack software but I could take a digital pic of my ProTrack reading and post that. FYI my current high is 224 (SAS in a freefly suit). Just to coordinate, ramon's 270 is TAS, so let's post TAS numbers to keep everything straight. FYFYI, I think AggieDave had like 198 in a stand. 5. My Jedei is the same way, and I had the same issue when I went to it from the Sabre. The airfoils between the Jedei & Samurai are essentially the same. Since the flare is so much different, it took a while to dial in, but I really like it now. Yes it comes in really hot on straight-in approaches. The trick is to really be disciplined about getting every last bit of flare that you possibly can out of it. You get a nice long surf and it shuts down pretty nice. I alos like the way it "hunts" for a heading. "Zero Tolerance: the politically correct term for zero thought, zero common sense."
  6. How many jumps do you have on it now Paula? And do you have no-wind day jumps on it? You've had it for a while now, so my gut instinct is that if you're still asking this question then it probably isn't for you. Check out a Sabre 2, Safire or Lotus. They'll all be a little more zippy than a Sabre, but not too much. When I went to the Jedei I could tell right off that it was going to take some getting used to going from a Sabre, but I also knew that I liked it's flying characteristics and felt confident I'd settle into it just fine, which I have. In fact, did a "goodbye" jump with my newly relined "old" Sabre and hated the flare. Funny how things change. "Zero Tolerance: the politically correct term for zero thought, zero common sense."
  7. Amen. I'm flying one of the later model original Jedei's and absolutely love it. Nice handling characteristics, even with the 800-ish jumps that are probably on it by now (been relined recently). Has a really nice, controlled front-riser dive and I've grown to like the flare deeper down in the stroke. On windy days I've seen some canopies doing some seriously scary stuff, but I've always felt rock solid under mine. I had a couple of questions about the canopy and Brian and his wife were both very responsive. I'm sold on the quality of their canopies and their customer service. I'll prolly buy a Samurai 120 for my next canopy. "Zero Tolerance: the politically correct term for zero thought, zero common sense."
  8. Drat! "Zero Tolerance: the politically correct term for zero thought, zero common sense."
  9. As a matter of fact, I do. Also right above my armpit. I'm one of the few lucky souls to have a great Master Rigger (Bill Lee) within 10 minutes of my house.
  10. I can take a fairly educated guess at the name (at least one I think would be cool) but I won't air that here. "Zero Tolerance: the politically correct term for zero thought, zero common sense."
  11. The official BirdMan "recommendation" is 500 jumps. But I think the general consensus is somewhere between 300-500 jumps. "Zero Tolerance: the politically correct term for zero thought, zero common sense."
  12. Just to echo what Ramon said... Even though the weather was less-than-ideal, I got some great coach jumps in and learned a heckuva lot from the debriefs. Max Cohn was a really great guy... very down to earth with a lot of great observations and advice. Thanks Max for all your help and thanks Spaceland for putting on a great event. Hopefully Max will be back next year and the weather will cooperate more.
  13. Ah. My bad. That was the first time I had seen it and all of the Vector fliers I've seen have hackeys, so I figured it must be a new thing. I will definitely check into it when I order my own rig (probably with my next canopy). For the record, I've never had problems with my hacky. "Zero Tolerance: the politically correct term for zero thought, zero common sense."
  14. Please people. Read my original post carefully. I said I bought the rig off of someone who was 5'10". That makes it pretty clear that it was bought used. A lot of this discussion seems to have labored under the mistaken assumption that I bought it new. My whole purpose of posting this was because people buy a lot of used gear. 90% of the time, particularly with rigs, the rig will be spec'd to the original owner. That means you might need to have some adjustments made by your rigger in order to make it fit right for you. "Zero Tolerance: the politically correct term for zero thought, zero common sense."
  15. Heh. It's funny. The one and only criticism I've heard of Vector 3s is that "they're ugly". Yeah. You know what else? They're frickin' bulletproof. That makes them quite beautiful in my eyes.
  16. Can you bring it anyway? I'm curious as to what you're referring to. "Zero Tolerance: the politically correct term for zero thought, zero common sense."
  17. I wouldn't say that it's "no big deal". Max seemed concerned enough about it. Again, itmaybe a simple matter of tightening the chest strap more, but I'm gonna talk with Bill Lee to make sure. The one testimonial in all that was that even though the harness slipped, the flaps were still rock solid. Gotta love Vector 3s.
  18. True. Actually it may not cost even that since it's a Vector 3 & Bill Booth has been a lot more active around here lately. Quite honestly, I'd be reluctant to send it back because I'd be rigless for a while. I'd rather have my own rigger do it during the week. It may be a simple matter of being more disciplined about chest strap tightness. But I've been kind of wanting it modified to me for some time now and this seems like a good reason too. I'll ask though. Thanks!
  19. It's not less than a year old. "Zero Tolerance: the politically correct term for zero thought, zero common sense."

  21. Had a real eye-opener when going over some head down video this past weekend. We're watching the jump and one guy goes "hey man, look at your shoulder harness"... it was off my shoulder and about 6 inches down my arm. I generally tighten my chest strap fairly snug. But I notice that when I sit down the strap "loosens". When I put it on another person observed that it seemed to sit a little low on me. I'm about 5'8" and bought the rig from a person who was about 5'10". The shoulders always fit a little on the loose side but I never felt anything and never thought much of it... until I saw that video. I went back to look at previous jumps and every now and then the shoulder harness would slip off a little. So for those of you that have bought a used rig designed for someone a bit taller than you... make sure you have your rigger check the fit and make any necessary adjustments. I'm taking mine to my rigger this week to shorten the leg harnesses. Falling out of your rig would be a bad thing! "Zero Tolerance: the politically correct term for zero thought, zero common sense."

  23. .5:9:0 Went to the Spaceland freefly festival and had a blast! Did 3 coach jumps with Max Cohn and a bunch of fun jumps with friends. If any of you get a chance to fly with and/or get coaching from Max I highly recommend it! The .5 is cuz one of the videos we were watching had boobies. So AggieDave, Slappie & I figured that's good for 1/2. "Zero Tolerance: the politically correct term for zero thought, zero common sense."
