See that's the cool thing about Karma. It's not just the bad karma that comes back to you, but the good Karma as well. Put out bad vibes, get bad vibes, put out good vibes, get good vibes.

They are head-down body orientations. X-Man the arms and legs are on the same plane (legs in arm's burble). In Daffy Arms & legs are on perpendicular planes. Best way to understand the difference is to see it. Here is a nice shot with both. The guy on the left is flying X-man. The guy on the right is flying daffy. This is an interesting debate. And pertains a lot to what I've been struggling with lately. In my coach jumps with Eric & Max, the emphasis has really been on X-man... legs out wide (I have lazy legs) and hands forward. Still, when I jump with other people I sort of tend to daffy, or this weird hybrid daffy-X sort of thing. I've found that when I fly daffy I can free up my arms more and have a lot easier time slowing down with the sitfliers I practice with. When I go X-man I just can't get the legs out wide enough to slow that far down. Plus I crank down hard on the arms and that throws my chest out. The more I put my arms forward in X-man, the more I get flipped backwards. I understand where Max is coming from on the symmetry. And one other benefit of X-man is that it's easier to correct forward/backsliding because the legs are more or less taken out of the equation. So you can focus strictlyon body position. But when I'm just flying with my friends I'm finding I sort of naturally gravitate to daffy. Max helped me a lot with my X-man flying, and I'll still work on it. I think both have their place and you should be adept at both. But the jury's sort of out with me as to which one is "better". I think it's a personal thing really. Deciding "This Canopy is Not For Me"
Zennie replied to Jumperpaula's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Just out of curiosity, were you trying to steer the opening? I know for a fact Jedei's (and thus probably Samurais) like to "hunt" for a heading. You try to steer it and it'll spin up or go into a spiral on opening (and FYI I have also noticed wicked oversteer on riser turns). Just let it do it's thing and it's great. Aw man, that's *way* more complex than what I was told. All you need is a standard 20lb bowling ball. The drilled-out finger holes take out just enough mass to make it fall a perfect 150 MPH. At least that's what I've been told. Think I'll give it a whirl this weekend. "Zero Tolerance: the politically correct term for zero thought, zero common sense."

Deciding "This Canopy is Not For Me"
Zennie replied to Jumperpaula's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Sounds like you're looking for soft, on-heading openings and a stable canopy under windier conditions. Maybe a little bit of zip. As far as the soft/on-heading openings go, there are lots of choices. Cobalts are excellent (personal experience) and I've never heard of safires having a reputation for spinning up. As far as the wind goes, I wouldn't trade my Jedei for anything (except maybe a Samurai or Vengeance) in the wind. That things is rock solid. 'Course it's a bit of work collecting up on the ground on windy days, but you get used to it. I've heard some people say a Vengeance is a Stilletto with airlocks, but I dunno cuz I haven't jumped a Stilletto. I still think you can go elliptical safely and get the behaviors you're looking for. Don't hamstring yourself with just PD products (though the Sabre2 and Vengeance are possibilities). Shop around. I personally think you'd love a Cobalt if you demo'd one. Sure will be (assuming remotely jumpable weather). Usually I'm out on Saturdays, but I might go Sunday if Saturday's weather sucks. I'm always up for chatting about stuff. I'm just going to request that one topic be off-limits. And I think we both know what topic that is. "Zero Tolerance: the politically correct term for zero thought, zero common sense."

Sorry if I came across that way, because that's not what I meant. I was referring to a subset of lawsuits. Obviously there are many lawsuits that have merit. I'm talking about the ones where: a. It's pretty clear that people have refused to take responsibility for their own actions; and/or b. People are trying to cash in on the Legal Lotto for even the most minor slight. The guys I was talking to about this were engineers and I asked that very question. They said the resin is seriously hard stuff that pretty much binds to the steel. So it may get nicked off here and there, but the majority of the fireproofing would remain. As far as why an alternative wasn't used? Well, the WTC was built back in the 70s and at a time when asbestos was suddenly made illegal. So my guess is there weren't any real alternatives available at the time, or perhaps they weren't sure what structural implications the alternatives would have. I agree with the rest of your post except this part. Most people file suit simply to "stick it to" the person that honked them off. many times these suits are totally meritless. So a relatively innocent party has to cough up money to avoid the even greater expense of proving themselves right in the first place. There's something seriously wrong with that. But would you agree that a lot of times people are goaded on by the advertising they see on TV from the career plaintiff's attorneys. There is a huge glut of attorneys out there. Most of them wind up hanging a shingle, not working for a major law firm. In order to pay the bills they'll take anything that walks in the door. Plus they know full well that a lot of times all they need to do is file the suit, allege "negligence" (which can be almost anything) and many defendants will pony up a settlement just to make them go away -- because it's cheaper to settle than to defend. The plaintiff will say "sure, what the heck, file it", because the fee is contingent. Neither the plaintiff nor the plaintiff's attorney has anything lose and a ton of money to gain. Legalized extortion. Gotta love it. "Zero Tolerance: the politically correct term for zero thought, zero common sense."

Nothing, other than the fact that it's more lawsuit insanity. And as far as lawsuits go, if there's anybody to blame in this whole mess, it's our own Federal Government. Get this... When the WTC was first being built, the design called for an asbestos resin to be applied to the structural steel. Roughly half of Tower 1 and about the first 7 floors of Tower 2 had this resin. The resin was designed to prevent the very thing from happening that caused the WTC to collapse .. structural failure from the heat of a fire. So why didn't they apply the resin all the way up? Well, you can thank the good 'ol EPA for that. They declared all asbestos evil and banned it from being applied in any form... even the harmless form such as the resin .. to new structures. So planes crash, no protective resin, heat causes structural change in steel. WTC collapses. Thousands die. How many would have died from asbestos inhalation from the application of the resin? None. Thanks EPA! "Zero Tolerance: the politically correct term for zero thought, zero common sense."

It definitely works. Positive visualization is absolutely critical. I know from personal experience that in golf visualizing the shot is as important, if not more important than the "real" stroke. Golf coaches hammer this into you and the really good professionals "see" the shot in their minds before they even walk up to the ball. The more elements you add to the visualization, the more you immerse yourself in it, the more effective it will be. And while you're visualizing, really concentrate on relaxing your mind. Breathe while you visualize the skydive. Relax. See each point turn real time. Reach out and take the grips. Release. Feel the wind over your whole body as you move to the next point. Somebody said (can't remember if it was here or at the DZ) that they make at least 4 skydives every ride up. 3 mental ones and then the real one. Despite all this visualization pre-jump. When you get out the door, clear your mind and just "be there". After all, at that moment there's nowhere else to be. Last page? Hell it's on every page... You might possibly die skydiving. You're jumping out of an airplane. You're falling really, really fast. Parachutes occasionally malfunction. You might die. Oh, for the record, hitting that ground at 100+ MPH might kill you. Did we mention you might die skydiving? Now watch this video entitled "You Might Die Skydiving (But Probably Won't)" Reason #867 why I got out of lawyering.
