So last July we bought one of those cute little teddy bear hamsters (they have short tails...the long tails creep me out) for my son's birthday. We managed to keep pretty good track of her until a couple of days ago. I woke up to find one of the cage lids missing and of course, so was she. We looked every where we imagined she could have gone but found nothing....not even droppings So we made a trip to the petsore for another critter, and my son is fine. Still no sign of the first one. I had various pet rodents when I was a child, and they would escape sometimes, but they would always show up again. I can't remember how long they would stay gone though. Do they typically disappear for several days and then resurface? Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28

"Unadulterated" just sound so puritanical. I like mine with lots of adultery. Reminds me of something I take every day: Organic Raw VIRGIN coconut oil .....How about Apple cider vinegar with MOTHER? Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28

I know this is an "Aspartame" thread, but you mentioned milk. I use organic rice milk? What do you think about that? Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28

I'm not with the quantum leap group, but I've dealt with death more times this year than ever. One of the things that helped me cope was being there for the folks closest to those who have passed. I jumped with my first student a few months ago, and had no idea I would enjoy it so much. Well, he died tragically in a motorcycle accident just after he earned his A. I had never met (and still haven't) his mom, but I helped her sell his parachute, and I got so much out of that simple act. I also sent her pictures taken of us about a week before her son died. They were actually the last pictures taken of him I hope this helps in some way and that I'm not just babbling. I'm so sorry for what you are going through. Please feel free to PM anytime. My dropzone is going to close, Cal-City
skydivermom replied to rapter's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Man I'm sorry to hear that I'm from Texas, but my aunt lived in CA for years and became a pilot. She asked me if I had ever jumped at Cal City and said that she used to hang out near there with other pilots. Was there a flight school nearby as well? I hope you find another great dropzone. I was at the library today with my son, and a man approached me about skydiving. He had noticed my shirt, and was asking me all kinds of questions. He recently made his second tandem and is very interested in becoming licensed. Anyway, I live in Canyon Lake, TX, very close to San Antonio. He asked me if I jumped at the DZ in San Antonio. I had never heard of a dropzone in San Antonio, so I was very surprised when he printed a page from the internet and handed it to me. It says San Antonio Skydiving, and even has an 800 number. For some reason, I had a feeling it was somehow affiliated with Skyride. So when I got home, I called the number 1-800-791-JUMP. I asked the guy where they were located, and sure enough, he started naming off some DZ's in my area, and tried to convince me to make a reservation through them. I asked him why should I pay them to make a reservation when I could just call the dropzones myself? He started stammering a little bit, so I asked him whose pictures were on the website. He quickly tried to change the subject, telling me about more dropzones close to me. I then told him that I am an experienced skydiver and would have no need for a RESERVATION. Anyway, I really am curious whose pictures are on the website. I don't recognize anyone in them. Here's a link to the website if anyone wants to try and identify the pics.....or if you just want to call and screw with them. http://www.1800skyride.com/Skydiving/SanAntonio/video.html Thanks Katie, for telling me how to make this a clicky. Right now he's heading over to Clear Lake to register for the Ballooner, then he's taking my rig to have the reserve repacked. I'll see him tomorrow so if anyone has any messages, pass them my way. And please get creative and obnoxious. He's always giving me crap about something! It's payback time. Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28

My sister and brother-in-law live in Fremont. They have a six month old baby, and my mother is there as the nanny for his first year. Mom told me they were all in the living room and the baby was sleeping upstairs. It took Mom a minute to realize what was happening, but when she did, she screamed bloody murder! My sister and her husband just calmly told her to get on the floor. My sister said it was the longest quake she has been in yet. YIKES!! Funny Stories You Hear At Someone's Memorial Service

Poor walt? more like poor shari... she caught the casket Shari grabbed Walt....I caught the Casket. And it was scary because I can be quite a clutz at times. Dave (the deceased) would have been laughing so hard. Dang, there has to be footage of this on a security camera or something. If there was, I would be holding it as blackmail material. He's always giving me crap about something! -

Funny Stories You Hear At Someone's Memorial Service

Oh, did it involve a certain person COUGHCOUGH bending over to hug the deceased and having the casket commence to slide off onto the ground? Praise the Lord Shari and I were right there. Beautiful Day.....but then I heard it wasn't so beautiful when I found out we lost two more of our own So sorry for the families and those of you who knew them...we will continue to carry the torch. Funny Stories You Hear At Someone's Memorial Service
skydivermom replied to skydivermom's topic in The Bonfire
My uncle passed away last week, and my mom was telling me about some of the stories people were telling at his memorial service. The funniest one came from his neighbor of several years. My uncle lived on quite a few acres, so there was a lot of space between neighbors. Anyway, the neighbor was talking about his first encounter with my uncle. The neighbor spent a few days working on a well and trying to fix a few other things. Well, my uncle goes over there, knocks on the door and introduces himself. He then says to the guy "I've been watching you for three days through my binoculars and I can tell you don't know what the *&@% you're doing." Strangely enough, they were fast friends from that point on, probably in part because my uncle DID know what he was doing. What are some of the wierdest/funniest stories you've ever heard at a funeral/memorial service? Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28 -

I'm still pretty new in the sport, but I suffered from an incredible amount of anxiety in my early student days. My first (and only) AFF jump ended in a panic attack that sent me straight to the ER. However, a week later, I made my first static line jump. The instructor there later told me that he almost gave me a choice between a bowling ball or a bag of golf clubs Since I suck at both of those activities, I'm glad he refrained from doing that! Anyway, that gut wrenching fear vanished around 100 jumps, and I've heard from most jumpers that that is usually the case. I still have more anxiety and nerves on certain jumps, and sometimes I can't figure out why, but I always feel better after exit as well. As far as advice, I think time and experience will help a great deal with some of that. I would often sing on the ride up to altitude, and that would always calm me. The pilot enjoyed it too. And of course (I'm sure you know this), you should be worried if the fear/anxiety completely goes away. If there ever comes a day when I'm not even a little anxious on a jump, I'm staying in the plane. Good luck and don't give up. It will get better. Eric (Tonto) Stephenson - Goodbye my friend

I am not going to be able to make it our for my Uncle's funeral, and the idea of doing a memorial jump in his honor crossed my mind. I talked it over with my aunt (his first wife), and she was ecstatic about the idea. A skydiver friend of mine suggested I take something along of his on the jump; something that he loved. The first thing that came to my mind was his Harley. He LOVED to ride! But of course, there is no way I'm taking THAT out of a plane! My friend suggested a Harley Davidson T-shirt. My mother and aunt both said the same thing. So this was suggested three times by three different people, and none of them got the idea from eachother. So my aunt is mailing a shirt to me, and I'm gonna take it out on a jump. I think we'er going to do the standard "missing man" formation, but if anyone else has anything to add/any other suggestions, please send them my way. This is going to be treasured by my family for years. Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28

My uncle passed suddenly this morning....on his huge back porch, with the view of the little volcanoe I will always remember as a child. Apparently he was complaining of not being able to breathe, and his wife went inside to get the oxygen. I think he was still alive when she came back, but obviously the oxygen was no help because his lungs were full of fluid. At least he died in his favorite place....with a spectacular view. My last moments with him were spent on that porch when I visited him about three years ago. He was proudly playing with his remote control fart machine, and bragging about how he would sit in his car in front of a drug store or something, place the device at the entrance and wait until a couple of old ladies walked by. This was part of his retirement entertainment. He was quite a guy....and will be horribly missed by all of us. And today was already significant to me because it was my dad's birthday.....and he passed away in 1997 Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28

I don't think I know how to be morbid....haven't been a skydiver long enough yet Anyway, I feel a lot better now that I know my uncle is looking at all of his options instead of giving up. WE may not give up on someone, but if they've given up, there's nothing we can do. I found that out when my father died 10 years ago. I am still very young, but I've faced sickness and death several times, and I'm well aware of how different each situation is. But everytime I'm faced with a new one, it doesn't get any easier. I'm hoping my uncle continues to keep looking at his options and doesn't give up.

I'm glad someone mentioned this about the sunscreen. I use a natural brand myself. Some sunscreens can be just as dangerous as the sun.....but that's another topic for Speaker's Corner. Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
