  1. 0:3:0 3 totally cool CReW jumps! Two tri-planes, both of which I was the pilot, FUN, but a LOT of work. Then a two stack with Drew at sunset. This time he was the pilot and I got to go along for the ride. We flew around and watched Walt fly solo. It was pretty cool. 2. My son has been in martial arts for about a year now. He's learned all kinds of tricks for getting out of sticky situations, including how to handle someone with a gun. Hopefully he doesn't get in a situation where he has to defend himself against someone with a weapon, and hopefully his skills will save him if he does. I still think it's better to be prepared than not. Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
  3. He's still trying to find his way back from our last off-landing! P.S. Cell phones are now part of the gear check when I jump with Walt Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28

  7. Great job and welcome to the group!! Well, the licensed group that is....you've been a skydiver for some time now. Like Popsjumper said, get a copy of the SIM. It's well worth every penny and will serve you well for many jumps and years to come. You've only just begun!!
  8. You're doing better than I did. I just got my B at around 143 jumps. I was afraid to do the water training because the idea of having something over my head in the water frightened me. I got stuck under a raft as a child and almost drown. Anyway, I did my first beach jumps last weekend and so became highly motivated to get my B. I had alot of trouble getting the water training scheduled, but am lucky enough to have a best friend with an old harness and canopy. We went to a neighborhood pool and did the training. If I'd had to wait on a group to form and an instructor to be available, I still wouldn't have my B. Good luck and stay safe! 10. I suffered a full-blown panic attack about 30 minutes after landing on my first AFF jump. I thought I was having a stroke it was so bad. I passed out cold in the middle of the debrief session, and left the DZ in an ambulance. I obviously continued to jump, and had that gut wrenching fear until around jump 100, especially when the door opened I was always just fine after leaving the plane though. Even now, I sometimes have days where I'm more nervous than usual. We are, afterall, doing something that totally goes against our survival instinct. Sometimes I would break out in song on the way to altitude, and it would always calm me. Hang in there....it gets better
  11. Lisa appreciates the offer, but she has to decline.. she has conditions to meet if she is to stay in the bunkhouse! Hey, cut her some slack, it's now day 9 (I think) without a cigarette! Good goin' for her!!! Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
  12. I've heard that as well. I actually recently switched to a totally natural toothpaste and the health of my teeth and gums has improved significantly. Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
  13. Oh MAN!! I just got a refresher on that this weekend. We were jumping at the beach in Galveston, and he actually STILL has those pictures in his camera. Just when I think the nightmare is over......IT'S NEVER OVER....apparently Okay, back on topic of the thread. I don't even bother reading those e-mails anymore because it's just too time consuming. I can't help but think that somewhere, these e-mails are being tracked by someone and they are laughing their heads off at the number of gullable people out there! 14. Well, I'm glad I did the water training because I was a lot more at ease when I looked down under canopy and saw all that water on my first beach jump!! It was pretty incredible. Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28

  17. I freaked out on my first opportunity to do water training. It was at Skydive Houston a few months ago. I got stuck under a raft when I was a child, so the thought of having something thrown over my head while under water frightened me. I did fine last weekend though. I guess I just really want to jump on the beach. Plus it was about time I got my B license. Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
  18. That is funny! Did you have to pay for the repack? Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28

  20. Yeah, Walt did an actual water landing too. I guess you old timers had it rough. Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:28
  21. Okay, I found out just recently that some places don't do actual water training. They just go over the procedures and sign off for the B license. Well, since I am jumping on the beach in a few weeks, it was imperative that I take the plunge. Since my DZ doesn't have a pool or swoop pond, we had to get creative. So one of my friends brought an old harness and canopy of his, and another friend asked her ex-boyfriend if we could use his neighborhood pool. So after acing the B license exam, we headed to the pool. As soon as we got there, I put the harness on and walked to the pool with my friend holding the canopy. This dude walks up to us and asks if we parachuted in! Then later on, he freaks out when he sees me underwater with the canopy over my head! He was totally serious. So I didn't just get my water training, I provided some entertainment. How many of you did water training that actually involved water? 22. I was doing CReW with WaltAppel and we were having so much fun, we forgot to keep our eyes on the DZ. After getting a bi-plane together and playing on the edg of a cloud, we scoped out a nice farm for our landing. I call this my "combat accuracy" jump. I found myself over a small front yard, with the road behind me, a fence in front of me, and trees on either side. I HAD to land right in the middle of the yard. I went to half brakes and sunk that baby straight down....to the absolute delight of the two boys who lived there. I'm sure they had a story to tell at school the next day. 23. I have a wingloading of .9, so yes I would have landed with the plane. I have actually been in a situation where the winds increased drastically from takeoff to exit, and we didn't know it until we were all under canopy. I ended up landing right between the highway and some power lines. I was talking to God a LOT during that landing. And I recently jumped at Byron. Made the first jump in steady 20 mph winds. On the second jump, I was just about to board the plane when a huge wind gust came up, and I saw my first dust devil. Once I found out it was a 26 mph wind gust, I didn't hesitate to cancel the jump. 24. Oh, I LOVE that picture. Alicia, that should be your new avatar. HAPPY BIRTHDAY babe! Jen showed up at Skydive Temple Sat. and told me it was your birthday. I hope you had a great one.
