  1. Sigh, I forget everything is Clinton's fault. If you guys would spend half the amount of time that you do fighting between parties and pointing fingers to trying to actually improve, maybe you would be an actual superpower.
  2. I clearly remember certain areas of LA being called a war zone
  3. Wouldn't that pretty much be what he probably would ahve done if you move this scene to LA? let's say he was a cop and had a little gang shootout with some kids. One gets stuck in a burning truck, heavily wounded. You would be ok with the cop being a doctor (deciding he could not medically be saved) and judge and jury and executioner?
  4. I could care less if he got a million blowjobs from a million different women. it is the allegations of reprisals against those who tried to reprimand his fuck of the day, who would worry me. It is the illegal nanny combined with tax evasion that I would have an issue with, specially since his posts would be the primary responsibility with regards to illegals. So, in his case, it isn't his private life, it is how it has and will affect his public life.... Big difference.
  5. Sounds like nothing much has changed then
  6. Just to hijack the thread, here they are, Jonah's trip to Mexico..... here
  7. See if both of you make it past the three year mark, still loving skydiving as much as you do now. If you still feel that you waant to throw your life savings and retirement into skydiving, go right ahead, but at least you will have a better idea of what it is you are doing it for.
  8. It would be fun to put the stats with regards to murder by car and murder by gun beside those numbers. And then compare purpose of a car and purpose of a gun. I think one would quickly see what a stupid comparison the first stat is.
  9. If it is such a strong deterrent as the pro-gun and pro-DP crowd seems to believe, how come so many people get murdered in the US?
  10. So, to kill them for revenge. To kill them to get a nice warm fuzzy feeling inside.
  11. End result is the same. Death penalty and the possibility of others owning a gun did not deter this man from comitting his crime.
  12. It was his own military that went after him....must be Clinton's fault.
  13. Well, this soldier must have changed his mind after the fact, since he pleaded guilty.
  14. fact remained that even if he thought about it, it wasn't deterent enough to stop him. Don't have to read minds to figure that one out. I suggest you put your self proclaimed outstanding critical thinking skills to the test......
  15. I am assuming you would have been okay with it if he had shot a US soldier in the same circumstances?
  16. hey Tuna, you had no problem giving your opinion over on the death penalty thread. Does that mean you ahve been on death row and have been sentenced to death before? This whole, you can't talk about it unless you have been there is such a load of crock.
  17. YUp and if the punishment doesn't deter, than it isn't much of a punishment. But that concept seems to be a tad too diffucult for some people here to understand. JP, if you go a couple of posts up you will see that I refered to a general consensus to the definition of punishment. I knew you would have been able to find a definition of punishment without the deterence factor, but the majority do have it written in. Try and think about why society came up with punishment....
  18. Slightly simplistic, I would suggest you look at the other factors as well.
  19. Look up the definition of punishment. Punishment is issued to act as a deterrence. That is the reason behind punishment. If the punishment is not a deterrent, it is also not punishment. Deterrence in not a side effect, it is the main effect. Because you so desperatly want the rest of the world to see you as the good guys. It is funny to watch Americans on this website grandstand about how they don't give a fuck about what foreigners think about their country, that they'll do whatever the fuck they want...and then in the next breath they wonder why people would hate them. If you truly think that punishment without deterrence is still punishment, I suggest you start handing out lollypops to every murderer.
  20. Nope, one is a choice, the other is not, certainly not the same. Exactly and that act puts you into some pretty shady company on the world stage. Many definiton of punishment incorporate wording to the effect of: designed to decrease future occurences, or along those lines. Punishment is, generally by definiton, designed to deter. I have asked this question before, but have not gotten an asnwer. If the death penalty is such a deterrence and if the widespread ownership of guns is such a deterrence on crime...how come so many people are getting murdered in the US?
  21. generally in the field of law costs are closely tied to a particular case. Lawyers keep track of their hours etc etc. You can then do a comparison based on averages. Same with time requirements. LWOP case on average lasts not as long as a DP case. that differential carries a cost.
  22. The first part of your response doesn't take legal costs into account. Secondly I doubt the life expectancy of an inmate is equal to the national average. That's a joke right, you don't mean to bring that up as an actual argument do you? If they feared it so much, why did they commit the crime in the first place? A statement of fact that starts with: there appears to be no questions, could hardly be considered a verified fact.
  23. I have certianly seen fat chicks at hooters. I would think proficient English is part of the job requirements. If your retail store has a dresscode, he will have to abide by it as a job requirement. I think you answer yourself there. The trick to good management is getting those who don't like you to like working for you.
