But that didn't happen at tax rates in the Reagan era. If rates go back to those levels, why would the sky start falling now?

What if someone threw a gun party, and no one came?
SkyDekker replied to CarpeDiem3's topic in Speakers Corner
Really? You have stats for accidents involving people drinking a beer, but not being over the BAC limit? I am not talking about driving drunk. I am talking about driving under the BAC limit while drinking a beer. It is no more reckless than drinking a coffee while driving. So, why are you ok with banning that for law abiding citizens? -
I agree with your points! I grew up in a fully nationalized education system. All schools were public and there were no fully private schools at all. Curriculum and testing was standardized and if you didn't get your grades, you had to do over the whole year. If you were not making it at all, you were downgraded to a lower level of high school. Yes, we had multiple levels of high school education, from vocational to academic. From 4 year grograms to 6 year programs. Academic 6 year high school programs at zero option for courses not at an academic level...they were simply not offered. My first 4 years I had all mandatory courses, with no option to chose until the final 2 years. This meant a solid 4 years of math, science, chemistry, biology, history, Dutch, English, French, German, Latin and Greek before I could make any choices or drop some of those classes. Fail one class and you fail the whole year.

Having gone through high school in Europe and having exposure to it here though my children, I am convinced that the level of high school education is quite a bit lower. This results in having to get students at a university level rapidly up to speed. Speaking with a friend of mine who went to university in Canada for a year after finishing high school in Holland, math and sciences in his first year at University were two full grades behind what he had been doing in his final year in high school.

Bad for to send a PM to someone but to block replies from them?

So you did just make a post about a poster as opposed to the subject. -
What if someone threw a gun party, and no one came?
SkyDekker replied to CarpeDiem3's topic in Speakers Corner
I never said I wanted to ban guns. That is a construct of your own making. I agree... As would be allowing people access to beer if they aren't doing anything illegal.....just like allowing them access to guns if they aren't doing anything illegal. That would be a consistent position....one you seem to be having trouble with. -

Makes sense to me. Why restrict access to an object by law abiding citizens. Since that seems to be such a strong principle touted by many on the more rabid pro-gun side of the debate, I am surprised they would not fight other restrictions under the same principle. -

Why? Driving with a blood alcohol percentage higher than a certain limit is illegal. Why ban alcohol? As long as you are staying under the legal limit, shouldn't you be free to consume it? Why are you relating driving and drinking a beer to shooting a gun in a dangerous fashion or at an innocent person? -
There you go adding your own words again lol I never said only...and if you honestly think that the majority of street drugs are legally grown in CO and MS...well than I have some wonderfully expensive real estate to sell Next you are going to tell me MJ is legal in The Netherlands. Exactly, and that is great. Not sure why you think am ignoring that...but that you have shown a bit of a propensity to add things to fit your own views. Now, don't you think that if the majority of illegal guns in circulation in the US were from an illegally manufactured source, they would not be all over that? Don't you think they would want to protect the legal manufacturing companies?

yes, shrek?

Correct, just in the majority of States and in the majority of vehicles. Thank you for pointing out that there are exceptions to most rules. -
Exactly, hence the argument posted above is somewhat meaningless.

Plus profit margin is realtively easily manipulated.

Meh, I didn't say that. Was just wondering if the logic behind his reasoning extended beyong guns. -

Yet open containers are banned in vehicles. Yet beer is banned under those circumstances. -

Nor did I -
Lol, I like how you added "all" to the "quotes" so you can argue. It certainly isn't the case in all circumstances. But in most circumstances, related to the US, which this thread was about, it is true. Most illegal guns in circulation in the US, were at one point legal. Should this not be the case, then we would see significant monies spent on stopping the illegal manufacturing of those guns. Heck, even the NRA would be in favour of that, since it would help the legal manufacturers.

So you are in favour of allowing open containers of alcohol in a car? Are you in favour of allowing a person to drink their first beer of the day while they are driving? Those are all restrictions on possession of an object to prevent the act of a person. Are you in favour of changing those laws? -
Yeah he did...so? Owning and buying are not the same thing.
-
Unless there was a law prohibiting its manufacture covering the locale of its manufacture, I see no reason why it would be illegal at time of manufacture.

Isn't that what you just did? -
Not the same. Drug manufacturing is illegal. Hence the drugs are illegal from the start. Gun manufacturing isn't illegal, hence guns are not illegal from the start. Most guns were at some point legal. Most drugs were not. (now before you get too much sand in your vagine, that doesn't mean I am advocating for a gun ban in the US)

it isn't good form. But then, reviving old gun threads with a one line comment isn't really good form either. -
I had to copy this logic...it is priceless.
