    Sure we see it here all the time. Somebody craters and we all are implored to give money cause they never bothered to spend money on life and health insurance. How does asking for donations compare to a government mandate? It doesn't. It goes to the general mindset of the discussion related to consequences for ones own voluntary actions.

    indeed. On several occasions they encountered guns pointed their way. blocking the inspections. On two occasions we launched cruise missile attacks in retaliation. And yet he was still able to do his job and come to the right conclusion. While those getting funded billions of dollars to gather intelligence while sitting in their offices around Washington, DC. got it wrong? Unless of course there was some direction as to what information was to be presented and what information was to be discarded?

    Things change. During Bush 1's presidency Iraq definitely had WMD. During some of Clinton's presidency Iraq prabably still had or were attempting to make WMD. By Bush 2's presidency did they have any viable weapons? No. So, short of invading and confirming that, how do you know this? We know the evidence presented to support the claim they still existed was a dog and pony show (and everyone in Congress knew it), but the lack of evidence is not proof either. Pretty sure the UN delegation had a hard time finding them.

    The article you quote gives the right answer to all of the questions. Besides they're not that difficult. I got all but the federal reserve board question and I'm not even from US. Yes But when this survey was done by phone the results talked about in the editorial in the op found out who was the most informed Excellent, too bad they havn't been able to field a half decent candidate in a decade or so. Smart? You betcha!!

    Not only that...but when it turned out that the intelligence was that bad, the Republicans in charge at the time didn't advocate cutting funding, because it wasn't working. No, they threw a couple of billion more onto the pile. Which off course is the exact opposite of what they normally advocate: cut funding on those government entities/projects that do not work.

The other side of the coin is that the intelligence and defence industry the US spends billions if not trillions of dollars on is a complete and utter failure, operated by clueless idiots.     The intelligence that the senate and congress based their decision on was faulty. I personally believe that was not an accident or a mistake. I think it was made clear that only intelligence supporting invasion was to be produced. I don't think congress and senate would have supported the Iraqi invasion if they were told that the US really had no clue if there still were WMDs and that if there were, they had no clue whatsoever where they were.

    I didn't say it was Bush's fault. Some of these issues started well before Bush was in office. It was however a shitshow that Obama took over, regardless of who created it. And, he really hasn't made it any better....and has been weak on foreign policy. On a seperate note, I don't think Bush should ever be forgiven for invading Iraq under false pretenses, giving birth to ISIS in the process. That is squarely on Bush's shoulders as far as I am concerned. (yes I know you will agree with me on this)
