  1. Because the research indicates such. Whether you agree with it or not. You haven't provided any sources or alternative research to refute it.
  2. Do you have any evidence or article indicating that this was the stated intent of the Electoral College? My understanding is that the thought process was more that a presidential election through Congress would make a president to beholden to the states. Further, there was a sense that the people could not be trusted to make the right decision, they either aren't smart enough, or too easily duped. Lastly, the sense was that a truly national election wasn't possible (at that time). The concept of the Electoral College was the compromise. I haven't read anything that would suggest that the intent was to counter urban vs rural population concentrations.
  3. Isn't that path dominated by more than just President and VP? Doesn't Senate and House have some influence in this, maybe even more than just the president and VP?
  4. Do illegal aliens not know ladders or shovels?
  5. Because I am not in favour of an outright gun ban. To change culture yes, it would. No need to think results wouldn't be achieved. Specially when combined with addressing mental health issues, addiction issues, poverty, income and wealth inequality etc. I find it odd that you seem to think outcomes can only be yes or no, black or white, on or off. I haven't said guns are bad. Guns are but a tool, unfortunately the US has shown an inability to deal with the responsibility of the easy access to this tool. Yes, in the age groups above 3 to early teens, though there has been a significant uptick from 2014 to 2016, the latest years I can find numbers for. However, in the age group of 0-3 the rate has almost tripled since the 80's. That can really only been ascribed to more guns being available for them to have accidents with.
  6. Ah, the old if nobody hears a tree fall did it really fall question. This may be hard to fathom, but even if nobody knows you smoke, your odds of getting lung cancer increase.
  7. Meh, that just shows you didn't read the article I posted. Sources are provided for many of their numbers. If your argument is that these studies often discuss 'access to firearms in the home" and this is not equal to "ownership" you are missing the point entirely.
  8. But better then the situation you are in now. A situation where more school age children are shot dead per year than police officers and active duty military combined. (2,462 vs. approx. 1,144).
  9. Wonder if mark was as outraged about what happened in Wisconsin, where lameduck Republicans passed legislation to seriously hamper and reduce the ability of the incoming Democratic governor.
  10. You are trying to refute data with an anecdote. You are bringing forward the same claim as the guy whose grandfather lived to 110 even though he smoked a pack a day and drank a bottle of bourbon every night. Or the guy who highlights the case of the runner who dropped dead during his run, so exercise clearly isn't healthy. Or the case of the president who believes we are all born with a predetermined number of heart beats during our lifetime.
  11. Correct, it is significantly worse. And yet still worse than any valid comparable.
  12. I am pretty sure that deregulation and "finding efficiencies" is exactly why the 737 MAX 8 crashes happened. Totally new aircraft, but by allowing it to be called a 737 no new type rating is required and pilots can be seamlessly moved from old airframe to new other than some very minor "differences" training. This is pretty common. The 757 and 767 require the same type rating. One is a narrow body, the other a wide body. There are 242 system differences between the aircraft. In at least one case, two switches in the same location in the overhead panel, with the same label, had opposite effects when activated. Maybe "efficiency" and "number of regulations" shouldn't be the measuring stick for governments and regulatory bodies.
  13. Why are there so many guns on rail cars? Because there is that much demand for freely available guns. The more legal guns are easily obtainable, the more illegal guns are easily obtainable.
  14. You mean continue on how the rest of the civilized world has lower crime rates, those proven actions? And I am clearly not ignoring the fact the rates have already gone down, considering my original statement said they could be even lower.
  15. You can start here and then do all kinds of research for yourself.
  16. You mean like they have to be of a certain age and have to be born in the US?
  17. He is saying that beyond the headlines the words are a bit too complicated.
  18. Correct. It my just end up being that Trump was a useful idiot in all of this. Blissfully ignorant that those around him were controlling him at the behest of Russia. That would clearly show there are no problems with US elections, the US electoral system, or the GOP's willingness to sell out. /s
  19. Billy has a long history of shitposting and trolling. His general post history shows that the far majority of his posts are intended to inflame or incite reaction. Personally, I have no indication or reason to believe his current motivations for posting would be any different.
  20. This is where I tend to disagree. I think Switzerland is a country who has proven that. I think the US has generally proven the opposite in my opinion. As a country as a whole you clearly have proven not to be able to own dangerous tools safely. The fact that owning a gun increases your risk of being killed in an act of violence is but one of the many indicators of this. I disagree with this statement as well. Or ta least the qualifier you attached. Suicides are often an impulsive act. Other impulsive acts show that if you make it a bit more difficult to act on this impulse the frequency of acting on the impulse decreases. Examples are lockable cookie jars, or your wife not buying potato chips. Hence not having a gun in the home decreases the incidence of suicide, mainly because it prevents people from acting impulsively. Reduction in guns will decrease gun crimes...eventually. I have stated before that I think in the US, due to the facts you raise, this would be over decades or generations though.
  21. Imagine how much lower the crime rate could be, how much safer your community could be, if it weren't for so many guns and the ease of acquiring more.
  22. Do you teach them the first lady is an illegal immigrant who got her position on her knees and on her back?
  23. The two links are different. The first link doesn't work, the second link does. Jordan is spelled differently in the first link. That is really ironic in this case. Considering you are actually trying to create a narrative.
  24. And she should totally be locked up for that. Such a heinous crime. And even though multiple investigations have not led to charges she needs to rot in prison. Can you believe they are going after Manafort for these non-violent crimes? Really is disgusting they would sentence this man after he has been found guilty in a court of law.
  25. Should also note that Manafort is in solitary mainly because the prison system doesn't get enough money to guarantee prisoners safety. Now generally the US doesn't really give a fuck about that. Wonder how hard it would be to figure out why that is......
