I guess you also don't like to use decibel, since it means tenth of a bell and those scientists definitely don't use scales of ten when measuring decibels. What will you use in its place? How about decipher? Because "de" means reverse and "cipher" means cipher. The original meaning of cipher is 0. What will you be using in its place?

When s it OK to use the press as a weapon
SkyDekker replied to turtlespeed's topic in Speakers Corner
Jakee already covered this, but this is quite asinine. It would not allow for any fact checking or presenting any counter opinion. What you are proposing is effectively a blueprint to state run propaganda. -
This has nothing to do with a language evolving over time. People misusing literally isn't going to change the definition of the word. Etymology isn't the study of people misusing something enough.
-
One in ten is the historic definition, it isn't the only definition. Only recognizing the historic meaning as correct is not normal. By that standard everybody is misusing gay as well......
-
Ok, I will bite. How is it being misused? I mean I get that one of the definitions is around one every 10, but in current dictionaries there are multiple definitions. I haven't seen the misuse of "decimate" base don those definitions. Other than often the hyperbolic nature of the statement.

When s it OK to use the press as a weapon

So if President trump states his opinion that he believes Mexico is unable to control their crime problem and he is of the opinion the US will invade Mexico if crime has not been reduced in 6 months. You think this should not be reported, because they are opinions? You think that if the Chair of the Federal Reserve gives his view on the state of the economy, this shouldn't be reported because that is an opinion? How do you see this all working? -
Lows in unemployment are a good indicator of a coming recession.

That isn't until 2020.

There IS a problem with global warming... it stopped in 1998

As always, everything with Trump leads back to Putin. -
OJ was found not guilty too.

And the kids banned from running a charity. This also finely indicates the news sources Turtle uses. If the Clinton Foundation has been found guilty of something, or even charged with anything, he would have been posting the "finer details" about that here. In this case he wasn't even aware, because his right wing echo chambers did not carry this story.
-
Which is exactly what Trump supporters do. They will flip arguments constantly. The only thing that doesn't change is their steadfast support, regardless of what he does or says. The problem with stopping that support is that it would require self reflection and the ability to say they were wrong. They have gone all in and nothing will stop them or change their minds.

Looks like you misspelled white supremacist.

People in communist and socialist countries get paid for services too. That is not quite the defining line between socialism and capitalism. The government provided you housing, health care, income, food, travel and recreation. All paid for by the tax payer. Sounds pretty socialist to me.
-
You keep saying this like you want it to have meaning. But when it comes to scientists with degrees who speak out about the perils of climate change, you do not listen.
-
So should you. Looks like socialism paid for a lot of your travel. Socialism is probably also paying for a lot of the benefits you have since enjoyed.

Tax the rich, feed the poor, 'til there are no rich no more
SkyDekker replied to airdvr's topic in Speakers Corner
Sure, except when the big private pensions started to fail, the government had to step in and provide tax payer dollars to try and soften that blow. The result: try and incentivize people to be responsible for their own retirement to reduce future tax payer risk. Pensions like that also tend to restrict the movement of labour. -
Tax the rich, feed the poor, 'til there are no rich no more
SkyDekker replied to airdvr's topic in Speakers Corner
Yes, cause the other ways are significantly more authoritarian. See China's policies around babies. Yes, cause in many cases it is cheaper. Imagine people saved even less for retirement. What do you think the future cost of that will be? etc. This whole libertarian mindset of 'do nothing and everything will be fine" is IMHO complete hogwash. There is a reason there is not a single country in the world that operates under that system. -
Tax the rich, feed the poor, 'til there are no rich no more
SkyDekker replied to airdvr's topic in Speakers Corner
I think it is very well accepted. 401K is used to entice saving for retirement. Child care tax credits help with enticing population growth. Property tax exemptions are made to help facilitate economic growth. I mean the list goes on and on and on. -
Tax the rich, feed the poor, 'til there are no rich no more

I am all for this. But people forget that generally taxes are also used to try and shape behaviour within society. -
"There’s no evidence that Joe Biden used his power inappropriately or took action to benefit his relatives with respect to these ventures."
-
Not really. But one source that can definitely NOT be believed: your facebook timeline.
-
I did. He clearly points out how you are so very wrong. The problem isn't the media not explaining it properly. It is the 30% or so who are just not smart enough to think it through and go by what they get fed on facebook.

Someone? lol ok.

All those stations are owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group. They have "must run segments". One of those is that they have to run Boris Ephshteyn commentary 9 times per week. Boris is a big Trump supporter and Sinclair Broadcasting is definitely used to push conservative messaging in a coordinated fashion. Good to see you recognizing it as fake news narrative and coordinated talking points. I have a sense though that you didn't quite know the company or the message and will soon agree with what Sinclair is doing....
