Yeah, I'm the same way. There's a keys boogie I want to go to this year, but I need a C license to jump at it. So it's just a matter of squeezing in 70 jumps between now and then. If I don't get them done in time, I'll just go to it next year. For wingsuiting I need to get to jump number 230 or so for the min requirements, plus I have some skills left I want to get down before zipping up into a birdman suit. The way I see it is that the min numbers cited are for my own protection and are a general measure of skill needed. It would stupid to cheat around them, because I'd only be potentially hurting myself. If I feel I'm "good enough" even though I'm below requirements I'll go to the person in charge, get evaluated, and have him or her tell me if I'm ready. For example, I've done night jumps without a B license, but all I lacked with that was a license number, not the skill or training needed for it, and I had permission from the person running it.

I voted golf even though it bores me to tears. I just think it'd make a better Olympic sport.
-
Somehow I don't think "experiment" and "sushi" go well together.
-
Yeah, because we all know really skilled people in this sport never end up broken or killed. I never met ya JRock, but you sound like someone I would've liked to have jumped with. Take care dude.

Sounds like your situation would be best for a cat. Personally I'd love a dog, but won't get one until my living situation works for owning one(my place is small and I'm out all the time on the weekends).

Dido - Here with me, but with a Rollos chillin with the family mix. I have odd music tastes.

Do you think my wing-loading is too high? Plz?
MarkM replied to xavenger's topic in Safety and Training
Any chance your rig will take a larger canopy or is the 168 main, 160 reserve all it can handle? It kind of sounds like you already know the wing loading is too much for you, but you just need to hear other people confirm your decision. Personally I'm on a 1.08 Triathlon and the only time I've felt "on the edge" was when I was landing off DZ, cross wind, on a 8 foot wide strip of grass between a road and fence doing my 4th jump ever on that canopy. I'm a pretty bad pilot, but that canopy and loading is passive enough that I'm very comfortable getting aggressive with it at my current jump numbers. It's a nice "zone" of canopy wing loading to be in for my skill and personality. Maybe rent some rigs with a lighter wing loading and see how they feel to you? -
Huh? Sometimes extremely experienced teams will bash into each other causing black eyes and bruised faces even through a full face helmet. Should they not be jumping together? I have no idea what the BPA license requirements are, but in order to get your USPA A license you have to demonstrate certain 2 way RW skills with an experienced instructor or coach. The ability to just fall through the air without killing yourself is AFF graduate status. And no, they're not allowed to jump with anyone else but a coach or instructor. Where are all of these newly A licensed graduates killing or maiming each other doing zoo 2 ways on their bellies that this has suddenly become an issue?
-
Despite the speed differences? It's entirely because of the speed differences and because losing stability can cause such rapid changes in speed. When you have your A you should have already demonstrated the basic skills needed for RW and done some 2 way RW coached jumps. I wouldn't jump on a 8 way noob dive, but I've done a lot of 2 way noob dives. They rarely were sucessful, but they were a lot of fun and safe.

We don't just screw up presidental elections, you know. Next year we have a plague of locusts were sending up your way.

Skydiving is a low pressure hobby when you work in an IT field.

Zoo - The art of being all over the place, where you're not supposed to be, and generally look to be out of control.

Ahh well then, that's just stupid. What, is some 18 year old going to run out of the pub and hand his underage buds drinks? Bartender: "What'll you have?" Patron: "Gimme 20 ales old chum in plastic cups."
-
Because at 18 you'd still be able to go to a pub and buy drinks or go to a club and buy drinks. The local shops just wouldn't sell you a bottle of Jack until you were 21. It really makes no less sense than forcing people to wait 3 years after they're a legal adult before they can enter a bar.
-
There's nothing to justify. Private shop owners can sell or not sell to anyone they want. I got my booze as a teenager from stores that just sold to underage kids and the odd over 21 year old brother someone had. But it would've made it SO much easier to get booze when I was 16 or 17 if you only needed to know someone who was 18 to buy it. I don't think they're aiming to eliminate it, just tone it down a notch.
-
Alright. So what's the male version of the high maintenance woman?
-
I don't see where this one is so stupid: Private shop owners can sell to whoever they want and it'd be harder for sub 18 year olds to get alcohol if only over 21 year olds could by it.

NOW feel like skydiver is who i am Not what i do...

European VS American; An 'Attitude' Comparison....
MarkM replied to somethinelse's topic in The Bonfire
Hell, I can make that comparison between west coast, midwest and east coast Americans. I'm from the midwest and living on the east coast now(SE Florida, 90% of the people here are from NY/NJ) and I'd swear everyone here has ADD. But then I've been told I have a "Californian" attitude by these same people. So, like, whatever. -
That's probably me bringing on all the rain. Went to Homestead Saturday, geared up, plane went on a weather call and the sky started pouring. Today I showed up at Sebastian and the loads stopped there too. But not to worry, I'll be out of town next weekend so everyone down here should get a nice weekend of jumping in. 2:0:0

Huh. Whatever happened to just going to the bathroom and crawling out the window?
-
Was standing in line to buy pizza at this joint one day and there were too young girls in front of me chatting. One of the girls was complaining to the other girl how her boyfriend only drives a Mustang and she didn't like being seen in it.
-
Then don't get good at it. It's jumping out of planes because it's fun as hell, not a contest to see who's the best jumper.

When you're tired or slightly ill your body can override that in a life threatening situation. Ever drive tired and have something happen that snaps you instantly awake? But when you're drunk or stoned your body can't override that. That's being impaired.
