  1. I think a lot of people got caught up in having mad skillz, which takes a something like a gabillion "work" dives, tunnel ratting and coaching jumps to achieve. To some people if you're just goofing off or don't "plane the dive" you're wasting jump money that could be spent on improving your skills. Also if you're blowing 10k a year on your competition skills, no doubt you'll want to compete in contests with rewards.
  2. I have a feeling you haven't been to 3/4 of the countries and continents I have. I’ll take that bet, particularly since the only continent i haven’t been to is Antarctica... Oh yeah, well my dad can beat up your dad. Jeesh guys.

    Hanggliding

Check http://www.ushga.org/ for schools. I do know one part of Cal has a really nice spot of gliding. There are some sheer cliff walls along the coast and when the sea breeze kicks in from the ocean it creates an up draft off the cliffs that makes for great gliding. Saw a show once on hang gliding that featured a good school located there. I think Cal in general has some nice areas for gliding.
  4. Good idea in theory, but people like JT would then just bandit jump it. Yeah, but then they'd be open to fines and gear confiscation just like from any other illegal site or like they would be if the site was burned for everyone. The idea would be to give the local fuzz an option over an all or nothing site ban. I'm not saying the idea is perfect, I was just curious if it's been done or tried. I'd really like to take my FJC at this site next spring and it would suck if it was closed down for legal jumping because of a few guys screwing off.
  5. For legal sites, would it be possible to establish some sort of local licensing to use the object, with the license fees going to local emergency crews? Anyone who does something stupid can have their site license revoked and not be eligible to jump there again.
  6. It's not at all uncommon for Mirage owners to hug and even cuddle their rig. It's in the user manual Btw, nice looking rig.
  7. I did a lot of tracking, various forms of it. Hard tracking(going for speed), relaxed tracking, tracking with my arms behind my back, on heading barrel rolls while tracking(so I can look above me quickly) and now I want to work on back tracking. I also experimented a lot with unstable body positions belly to earth. Like being stable while basically flying on my hands and knees(kind of like in a ball, but keeping it belly to earth). Flying stable with my hands behind my back. Being able to stay stable while radically moving my arms or legs around. Now I'm working on sits, but frankly I'm behind most of my friends in this because I only started trying to sit recently.
  8. Huh, try Florida. 36% humidy? Waa waa, we wish we had it so good Keep in the shade, drink TONS of fluids and chill out in a breeze. Personally I find a nice shady place and keep my movements to a min and drink like a fish when I start to overheat. When I do that the heat doesn't bug me, it's the insects that annoy me.

    Hanggliding

I did a couple hang glides, nothing really serious though. Most people into hang gliding just soar or do cross country, para gliders are a little more open to things like acrobatics and tend to have a younger crowd(at least in my area). I thought about getting into hang gliding acrobatics, but skydiving is less dangerous and it's more accessible. If I ever slow down I might get back into hang gliding for the soaring aspect of the sport. That's pretty safe.
  10. Easy solution, don't voice your problems to men. We only fix them so we don't have to hear about it anymore.
  11. My apartment complex has a wall around it with a guard at the front gate, is that wrong??
  12. It was Monday. Oh wait, you mean with another person??
  13. Nope. Some guys don't even like sports.
  14. I definately didn't mean to imply that any student should do what I did, only that by the time you graduate you should have the basic skills needed to recover from an unstable position. When an instructor is teaching you how to turn, he's also teaching you how to stop turning when you don't want to. When he's teaching you how to do loops, he's also teaching you how to loop back onto your belly. So listen to them and ask questions.
  15. A bit after I graduated AFF I decided to experiment with going wildly unstable. I ended up on my back in a completely out of control spin and I definately had fear biting me in the gut because I had never felt that kind of loss of control before. But during AFF I had done forward and back loops so I knew how to flip off my back and onto my belly. I had also been taught how to start and stop a turn during AFF, so once I had flipped over(took me two or three tries) I was also able to stop my spin and resume a normal stable freefall position. My point being, your student training should teach you these things so when you're off on your own you will have the skills to resume a stable body position when you need to. Talk this stuff over with your instructors and don't be afraid to have them slow you down if things are going to fast for you.
  16. I've thought about getting a closing pin tat for every cutaway I live though, but we'll see.
  17. Was wondering the same. The guy has like 40 posts, 36 or so of which deal with sex or what he hates about skydiving. I don't think there was anything constructive in the other 4 posts. But whatever.
  18. That's mostly on the west coast of the state. Dunno about the central/Orlando area, but the SE part of the state is mostly younger people.
  19. Technically these are engagement rings and wedding bands, but it's not like you have to use them for that. I think they'll set any kind of stone you want. http://www.titaniumcommitment.com/
  20. Heh, I've been jumping at the wrong DZs.

    Doom 3

I'll be getting it... after I buy a water cooled Nvidia Ultra 6800 first.
  22. I saw the right guard commercial on TV last night. The things I liked about the ad... The plane really looked like a DZ plane(lots of stickers all over it). He deployed his parachute correctly. On the ground, you can see his main riser covers open.
  23. For what duration? According to this letter we've been at war since 1972. Are we supposed to give up our civil rights for the next 30 years? Fuck that.
  24. Duct tape and garbage bags.
