Dude, you can get 3.9 glide ratios with lotion. It causes the air the slide over the suit better. Just don't slip out of the aircraft on takeoff. We lost Goose like that.
-
We release a folded paper airplane from the aircraft. We call the object a "space plane". It's weighted down with silly putty so you have an experienced wingsuiter give this exam so you don't lose the plane. You would NOT want one of those suckers to hit a person on the ground. It could mess up their hair. The A license requires a simple dock with the plane on 2 axis lines(I don't know what "axis lines" means, but I'm sure I'll have that worked out soon). The B and C licenses requires more of these "axis lines" docks, with the D requiring a 4g inverted negative dive with the plane because Maverick did this in Top Gun and it was really really cool. Like the site. Only issue is that the movies aren't playing in Firefox under Linux, but that's because the flash support is all screwy on that platform.

Woah, dude, sorry to inform you of this but FreeFlocking is a registered trademark of mine. However I will be starting up The School of Human Aviation soon and you're more than welcome to apply for an Atmospheric Seagull(AS) license which will allow you the use of the trademarked term.

A lot of people I've talked to with wingsuits have gotten into a bad situation early on when still learning to fly. It's easy to get into an out of control situation when you're new. I think having 200 current jumps prior to that happening helps the person recover. Also wingsuiting can depend a lot more on basic skydiving skills like air awareness, ground orientation, and having already worked out good canopy deployment skills. And I've seen people do some scary shit in prodigies too. If you're not ready for a confining wingsuit like a classic or GTI, you're not ready to jump with a prodigy just because it "feels" less confining and safer. It can still send you tumbling out of control on your back when it's time to pull.

Tandem DZs also promote the sport. They can operate in areas not suitable or economically viable for fun jumpers. And frankly it's probablt easier for a tandem DZs to have a better relationship with the airport and surrounding region than a fun jumper DZ. They also have to deal with the same DZ issues that fun DZs do, so they need someone like the USPA. I really don't see what the issue is. The lack of training and fun jumping isn't keeping the 99.99% of the tandem jumpers from becoming 200+ jump skydivers at normal DZs, so I fail to see how tandem-only DZs are hurting the sport.
-
Because it increases the branding of the USPA. It allows them to state that member dropzones make up x% more of the sport and specifically with tandem only DZs they can state that they govern x% more of that aspect of the sport, which while may be just a "amusement ride", still pulls in significant numbers which can be used to sway FAA or government opinion. I don't see tandem DZs hurting membership anymore than having tandems at your local DZ hurts it.

I think it looks nice.

Cool, more birdies for the flock. I'm gonna have to road trip to Zhills more often.

I can't believe you opened this. Are you nuts? What a dumbass. Indirectly mention corn dogs. I run Linux, fool!

Just tell her she's too cute for you and you've come to realize you should be with someone who more on your "level" of looks.

Who makes the most cutting edge, innovative, "techi", best feature rigs?

Bah, sissy. Sweating is good for you. People pay good money to do it in health clubs in certain nordic countries.

Play a bunch of games until she figures it out. Definately don't be up front and honest with her about it. After all, that might hurt her feelings.

Yes, but the food sucks.

To Cypres or Not to Cypres....????
MarkM replied to jacketsdb23's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
If you don't feel it's safe to be in these situations without a Cypres, it isn't safe to be in them with a Cypres. -
That was pretty cool.

Did you yell "Door!" when he cut the power?

I never really got watching professional sports. The below is pretty much how I feel whenever there's something big going on in the sports world. http://www.tarsis.org/football.jpg

Can I feed her a cheeseburger, first? Oh, and give her acting lessons. No, it's Hollywood silly. They likes em dumb and scrawny. Besides you can't have her making Stephen Baldwin look bad. The guy's cousin's uncle is funding the film.

That's a good title. Think we could get Maxine Bahns to star in it?
-
This would make for a pretty good movie. Maybe have the main character be a burned out cop investigating a dropzone, but gets sucked into the culture and forgets about his old job.

When skydiving is more than skydiving
MarkM replied to veri's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Really I think for most everyone the "rush" of the sport wears off pretty quickly. Not that you don't get a hit of it now and then, especially when you're experiencing new stuff, but if all you get from the sport is the rush, you'll probably get bored and move on pretty quick. Most people stay in it for maybe the challenge(it takes years to master just a single aspect of the sport), the people they meet and get to know(there's a large social aspect of the sport), and I suppose there's a Zen-like vibe you can get from it too. -
That was hilarious. I think I'll go cuddle with my Mirage now.
-
Nice meeting you Matt. Hope you come down to Sebastian more often.

I'm sorry, but the "do it safely" thing sounds like a bullshit excuse for the coach rating. An AFF grad can do solos for almost all of their next 15-20 jumps, get their A and pull the same "I'm gonna kill you sucka" things when they get in the air with other people(who may very well be noobs themselves). If safety is such a reason for the rating, it shouldn't have just a 100 jump requirement.
