  1. I wish I could take him as seriously as you do, and actually believe him as you do. You really think these terrorists would be blowing stuff up here if they didn't have Iraq to blow stuff up in, that's remarkable. I instead am disgusted because I don't believe that Iraq ever was an important front on the war on terror. Rather, the war on terror is a front for this war, and Iraq became a terrorist's playground after we came in. This war wasn't started on the notion that Al-Qaida is in Iraq, remember? That revision came about after they came up with their dicks in their hands looking for WMD's. He's just fueling fear and feeding on it again. This is what he does. It's how he got re-elected. Be afraid of terrorists -- beating the dead 9/11 horse to no end. That he can get up and try justifying a war for the profit of his friends to a completely corrupt cause, insult the intelligence of the world -- and that there are crowds that actually believe him -- turns my stomach. In the meantime, we have to finish cleaning up the mess we started. So I, like you, support our troops. If he would start letting generals run the war rather than a herd of war-dodging cowards like himself, we'd make huge strides. With all this time passing and American deaths approaching 2000 now, somehow I think he likes it this way. It must be making him and his pals heaps of cash. Absolutely disgusting. 2. That picture isn't quite fair. It should be more like Paris vs. Houston, or any big city in Texas -- Houston (#1), Dallas (#5), San Antonio(#8) and Ft. Worth (#10) are all in the top ten fattest cities in the USA. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
  3. In response to your post but not necessarily directed to you -- more like anyone who might know. Really though, I wonder what purpose these questions would serve were they rhetorical. I'll find an April 1990 issue instead... Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
  4. They're real questions that I'm curious to know the answers to -- not sure what purpose they would serve as rhetorical questions. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
  5. 110,000 parachutists -- in US or worldwide? Does this include tandem fun jumpers? Or was the USPA membership bigger back in 1990? Reason I ask is because USPA membership today is 34,000. If that # represents American jumpers, is there a large group in USA of parachutists that don't belong to the USPA? 9. ...and more good news WASHINGTON, D.C., Sep 28 (OneWorld) - Energy drawn from the wind, tide, sun, Earth's heat, and farm waste is poised to begin replacing oil and other fossil fuels, a prominent research group said Wednesday in a wake-up call to industry executives and government officials worldwide. ''Energy markets are about to experience a seismic shift,'' Christopher Flavin, president of the Washington, D.C.-based Worldwatch Institute, said in a speech to oil executives and energy ministers in Johannesburg, South Africa, site of the 18th World Petroleum Congress. ''The question for oil executives is whether you're in the oil business or the energy business.'' The conference's 5,000 participants included ExxonMobil President Rex Tillerson and Saudi Arabian Oil Minister Ali Al-Naimi, Worldwatch said. To be sure, oil accounts for about 30 percent of the world's energy use while renewable energy sources make up a slim two percent. However, according to Flavin, the market share of renewable energy sources was growing apace. Unlike fossil fuels, of which there is a limited supply, renewable energy--including solar, wind, and geothermal power and biofuels--is derived from sources that are continually replaced. Most renewable energies are non-polluting. By contrast, scientists say the burning of fossil fuels contributes to global warming, which in turn drives the increased incidence and intensity of major storms such as hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Flavin spoke against a backdrop of soaring oil prices and demand. World oil consumption increased by 3.4 percent in 2004, the fastest rise in 16 years, Worldwatch said earlier this year in a report citing U.N., industry, and other sources. However, the research group added, oil production is falling in 33 of the 48 largest oil-producing countries. These include six of the 11 members of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries ( OPEC). In the continental United States, the think tank said, oil production peaked at eight million barrels per day in 1970 and fell to 2.9 million barrels daily last year. Production of biofuels, wind power, and solar energy are all growing at rates of 20-30 percent per year, compared with growth rates of around two percent for oil and gas, Flavin said. The costs of renewable energy were falling fast, news reports Wednesday quoted Flavin as telling the conference. Wind power cost 46 cents per kilowatt-hour in 1980 but now costs less than six cents. New energy sources are attracting roughly $30 billion in investment annually, he added, with Brazil, China, Germany, Japan, and California leading the emerging market. ''Already, 35 million homes in China get their hot water from solar collectors. That is more than the rest of the world combined,'' Flavin told the Reuters news agency in Johannesburg. ''There are prospects for real take-offs in solar and wind power in China, and not just hot water for homes but in industry,'' he added. ''State-owned industries and private companies there are investing heavily in renewables.'' Renewable sources account for 25 percent of Sweden's energy use and 45 percent in Norway. The United States lagged behind, with only 4.2 percent of its energy consumption coming from renewable sources. Energy companies and governments were driving growth in renewables, Flavin said, with firms including Royal Dutch Shell Group, BP, and Mitsubishi among the major players. Additionally, 48 countries now have policies and incentives promoting renewable energy, he added. 13. I can't wait to get into BASE...those diving board jumps off the bridge are SICK, and that freeflying in Bellas II is second to none. Awesome videos, my compliments. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
  14. I can't say I'm convinced, but if nothing else those are some pretty thoughtful answers. Cheers. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
  15. And so it continues, American remains polarized, and probably will after 2008. I'd like to know in what way he's not supportive of your platform. Do quotes like this alienate you? “We are the party of Ronald Reagan, not Pat Robertson. We are the party of Theodore Roosevelt, not the party of special interests. We are the party of Abraham Lincoln, not Bob Jones.” -- McCain, February 28, 2000 If you compare his issue positions, based on his voting record with Frist's, he is, like I said, fundamentally conservative. Frist's positions McCain's positions Cheers. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

  17. Hi Windcatcher, So what do you think of funjumper101's questions? They seem pretty challenging. I know it's a lot to answer, but I for one would be interested in hearing your answer to any one or two of them. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
  18. McCain is an old-school, Teddy Roosevelt-style republican, not a neo-republikan corporate puppet chickenhawk. He's his own man. It took balls for him to work for campaign finance reform, a patients' bill of rights, and to stand up for a fellow veteran in the face of lies. And at the same time, he's staunch pro-life and if you look at his voting record he's fundamentally conservative. If nothing else, you've got to admire him for being a warrior who went through hell in Vietnam and for being someone who continues to serve his country proudly. Bush had to lie to beat him out of the 2000 nomination because McCain merits the presidency. There aren't many other candidates out there you can say that about. I'm probably misunderstanding this, but when you say "as a delegate" do you mean that you personally will be at the 2008 republican convention? Either way, I'd be curious to hear your pick for 2008 if you don't mind sharing. Besides having heard liberals like myself voice support for McCain, what's your reasoning behind this statement? Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
  19. 2008 should be pretty interesting for the republicans because the extremists don't seem to be the front runners, at least this early in the game. When I say extremists imho I mean Cheney (insists he won't run..?), Condi (a big question mark), Frist, and Jeb Bush. The front-runners, from some of what I read, are Giuliani and McCain, and to a lesser extent, Pataki, all of whom are moderates. Of course if one of the extremists starts a lying campaign, just like Bush/Rove did in 2000 vs. McCain (remember the "illegitimate black child" the Bush campaign lied about McCain having had? Turns out that's McCain's adopted daughter from Bangladesh. By the time the truth came out, the SC republicans already voted against McCain, swayed by those lies), it's all over for the good candidates. Expect it to happen. Hopefully one of the parties can field a candidate that can bring the country together, rather than a candidate that each day insists on aggravating the already deep fracture in the country. America hasn't been this polarized since the civil war, and it's become a real problem. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
  20. Wrong. I've said it a bunch of times -- my vote is already cast for McCain if he gets the nomination. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
  21. In your humble opinion. Is there a non-republican (not necessarily already in today's list of potential 2008 candidates), besides maybe Zell Miller, that you could see yourself voting for in 2008? And out of curiosity, who, assuming that Cheney doesn't run, do you think would make the best presidential candidate in 2008 given the field of potential candidates now? Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
  22. It's not 2008 yet and there's already a new crop. Here are just a few. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
  23. Probably would be a better solution than one unresful Iraq, but the Turks would have a sh.t fit if the Kurds got their own state. Considering they're a close ally of ours, I don't see a Kurdish state happening. 24. Yes. Y'all have your sh.t so together you should consider secession again. I can assure you, even though I'm sure the rest of the country would suffer dearly without your brilliant Texan expertise, rich Texan culture, and gifted Texan public servants, there are plenty of Americans that would have NO problem with it at all. And they're not like the morons in Washington either. Oh, wait...whoops Yes, things work like that, don't they? If that retarded mayor actually did his job right, and that incompetent governor did what she was supposed to do, it would have been cake for Bush the expert to clean it all up and play hero. They just dropped the ball and made it really hard on the federal government. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
  25. Not true -- I'm not crazy about my job but I find it pays me well enough and it's fairly challenging...and I know other skydivers that feel the same. I think that goes for most of the population, no? Or do most people actually derive meaning and purpose from everyday life? There are also many skydivers that tend to the quiet side, me being one of them. Also, in speaker's corner, there are heaps who don't have liberal political views. Because most wuffos stay wuffos. It's easy to write off as "abnormal" those you don't understand. _____ We're too diverse a bunch to categorize, to classify, to make generalizations about and boil down to a chapter in a textbook.
