Why I don't believe in Gun Control.....
masterblaster72 replied to markd_nscr986's topic in Speakers Corner
I agree along all of the lines stated above. Most importantly though, I also believe that in addition to the possibility of civil collapse, if so many backass, scared-to-death, repressed closet-gay ultra-right-wing rednecks amass firearms, it's very important that everyone else does too, even if they feel just as secure without them! This would be a dangerous country if guns were in the hands of only the feeble-minded. So...guns for all! Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up. -
That's right. Kerry or Gore wouldn't have the balls that Bush has. Not the kind of BALLS (and I mean, audacity, cajones, straight up gall) to take a five-week vacation during one of the worst periods in a war that your republican president, is running so well. Well, he cut his vacation short a couple of days. There's our leader, I knew he'd come through for us!! Blind partisanship kills me (I love the tuff-guy Reagan quote by the way, very patriotic). You're behind a cokehead alcoholic stammering rich-boy draft dodger who started a sensless war and is botching it. Patriot...flag..gun..hawk..American! Do you have stock in Halliburton? Are you a multi-millionaire? I ask because I'm curious to know how his policies have personally benefited you. I can tell you this: *Gore would not have ignored 911 intelligence the way Bush did*. Ever occur to you that 911 may never have happened if they took Richard Clarke seriously? As a New Yorker, it pisses me off that they ignored him. Pisses me off even more that they capitalized on 911 and ran their 2004 campaign on it. 911 COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED. And Steve what is it that transpired under Gore's watch that's nearly as bad as the sh.t that's transpired under this jackass's watch? I don't know if Gore would be much better because I'm not blindly partisan like you. But I can't imagine a leader much worse than this. Stop hiding behind the guns and the flags, stop your mindless cheerleading and talk substance. Thanks guys! Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

No, he's not doing his best. I don't think he is. I believe he can do much better. If you think this is his best, you have to do something about your standards pal. Personally I am angered at what a f.cking fiasco this war has become. "Conservative" is a misnomer for the right anymore. We're suffering from fiscal diarrhea at this administration's hands, going broke on a mission that's not even close to being accomplished. But if you are correct and this is his best, it shows how feeble-minded and incompetent he really is. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

I know your quote had nothing to do with the Sheehan non-issue. I quoted you in the general context of how republicans have a habit of blaming the minority. You did it right there. Fact is, your party is represented very well in our current government, and even if you have a democratic POS rep, you still have a republican congress. In the big picture, minority votes didn't botch this war; this republican administration's policies did and it's the majority in congress that decides how to allocate funds for the war. Yet you invoke minority votes into the discussion where they don't hold much value. You're pointing a finger. Yeah, just like all democrats are gay terrorist-loving pinko communist hippies. Whether some republicans are homophobes or racist is their right and their personal business; it becomes a problem when they want to infringe on other Americans' rights. Sadly there are some prominent role models in your party that give people the idea -- like David Duke and Jerry Falwell for starters. They cater to the fear of rural whites who have a problem with people who don't even live near them or influence their lives in any way -- fear of gays, immigrants, racial/ethnic minorities. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

Just my take on why this went up in the first place. I'm sure I'm setting myself up for a pummeling here, but I'm calling it as I see it: the right wing needs to spew venom at someone or some meaningless issue that arouses fear/anger/hate in people. As I said from the start, *Cindy Sheehan is a non-issue*. I don't even know much about her because I don't watch tv news. I read instead, and the news sources I read from make little mention of her, because in reality, she means nothing. The left has nothing to gain from using her as someone to promote their agenda. She's a headcase, that much I do know. If they are using her as a mouthpiece, which I really do not think they are, they're shooting themselves in the foot as is often the case. This is what the right wing does. Gay marriage is a great example -- it does not affect your everyday life, but it becomes an issue because it arouses fear/hate/anger in a good part of the population. So it becomes a distraction from the real issues, like the quagmire in Iraq, the economy, real threats to global security like North Korea's and Iran's nuclear ambitions, etc. Flag burning is another one. Will making an amendment to protect the flag save our troops in Iraq? Symbolically it's a hideous act that angers me. But it has no effect on my daily life. And honestly, how often is it really done. It's not a pervasive, everyday problem. Yet it's been an issue for some time. The French... post # 75 in this thread -- ...blame racial minorities, even when, clearly in your state, Republicans rule. Again I point out to you that when you're in the solid, ruling majority, your excuses are *weak* when you blame the minority. Especially when in your state all your worries are being catered to by gerrymandering. Be men, take responsibility. 100% pure garbage like this An extreme example: Falwell's teletubbies and Barney. If you think this threatens your child's sexuality in the future, something's wrong with you. The thing that's wrong is you have a fear/hate/anger problem and you're looking for a vent. Thus, right-wing spew. Fact is, we hetero's will always be the ruling majority in the human race and gays will never come invade your home or corrupt your family. So find something else to be afraid of, someone else to bash. Here's one: how about Kenneth Lay? A pig of greatest proportions. Yet nothing has been done, very, very little discussion in the media. Leaving him alone because he's down with GOP? After Cindy Sheehan crawls back into her hole, the right wing will find some other topic for the Two Minutes Hate. It's not about progress and tackling real issues to bridge gaps, find common ground and improve our lives as Americans. It's about bashing, not tolerating other points of view/walks of life, and making very weak excuses for a completely incompetent administration, blaming the minority that exercises its right to disagree. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

"And it's one of the wonderful -- it's like earning capital. You asked, do I feel free. Let me put it to you this way: I earned capital in the campaign, political capital, and now I intend to spend it. It is my style. That's what happened in the -- after the 2000 election, I earned some capital. I've earned capital in this election -- and I'm going to spend it for what I told the people I'd spend it on, which is -- you've heard the agenda: Social Security and tax reform, moving this economy forward, education, fighting and winning the war on terror." In his own very ineloquent words -- he has the political capital. So stop making weak excuses for him. I agree that all of the above are true, except for the Americans are stupid part. I believe that's partially true (and it has nothing to do with party affiliation). We'd agree on many of the reasons why I think dems haven't been successful, and we'd disagree on others. None of the above are ones I blame for dem failure. One thing I'd like to see some republicans do is be responsibile and place accountability where it belongs and realize that not all problems in this country stem from the left. It won't happen. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

If nothing else, your answer showed that you don't think the war is being conducted in well either. So your point: the war isn't going as well as it should be run because of feared backlash from the left. You're saying there are 2000 dead after "mission accomplished" because this admin is scared of liberal crybabies -- and if it weren't for those liberal crybabies, the war would have been already won. I'll attempt to take your point seriously by asking you this: why should Bush care about backlash from the left when every branch of government is skewed in his favor? *He doesn't need to care about backlash from the left* (and in reality, he really doesn't anyway). Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

It's hard to respond to that when, to a typical republican, anyone to the left of Joe Lieberman is considered a liberal wacko. To me, a religious fundamentalist, like Ralph Reed, borders on wacko. To me, the idea of having a president who is a former cokehead and alcoholic, who used to blow up frogs with firecrackers as a kid, who refuses to speak English correctly, who almost died choking on pretzels, borders on wacko. Howard Dean is fiery, and that screech will forever make him a loony in the eyes of those who disagree with him. To you he's a wacko. I don't necessarily like him, and I don't know his ideas too well. But he has a spine, which is what the democrats have been lacking. Whether that helps them or hurts them remains to be seen. I wonder how you would feel about this war and the way it's going had it been started and run by a democratic administration. I'm sure you'd be incensed. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
-
So you agree that Fox is spin. I don't deny there are democratic wackos. There are plenty of wacko Republicans too, ones that blow up abortion clinics, ones that amass arms and bombs out of paranoia, religious fundamentalists (Pat Robertson, American taliban), etc... That could very well be. I don't like Michael Moore, I think he is a fat a-hole, he polarizes, and he lies. Just like cons shouldn't like Rush Limbaugh -- he is a fat a-hole, he polarizes, and he lies, not to mention he's also a disgraced pill junkie. But people like them serve their purposes pandering to party loyals who don't like questions. I think Fahrenheit 911 might have ruined the campaign for Kerry by making a movie out of potential ad content -- there was some devastating footage of Bush & cronies doing/saying shit that would have been very costly had it been aired on tv and not in a theatre. But the biggest reason the dems lost is because Kerry is a wuss (no matter what your take on his service, at least he went to war) Bush has so many chinks in his armor and he could have been bludgeoned by any candidate that had a spine. --------------- Back to your point about Fox News: you're being distracted. I can understand it feels good for republicans to hear a channel that dedicates itself to bashing democrats -- I can imagine there's plenty of comfort to take in that. But there's a bigger issue that we should all care about as patriotic Americans -- one that Fox isn't raising questions about. So again the point I've raised several times that no Bush supporters here seem to have answered to: Why isn't the administration doing a better job of running the war? Why are we approaching 2000 dead? Again, think they're doing as well as can be done, and are you proud of the way your administration is running this war? Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
-
That was a f-up of a completely different, much worse kind. Justice was done by Rather resigning for being the jackass that he is for letting that happen. ---------------------- The reason this thread is up in the first place is because those angered by it are being fed this junk by Fox News and eating it. In the big picture, *Cindy Sheehan is a non-issue*. If the press ignores her, she has no effect. I don't have an opinion on what she does; she's just being an American. She's a distraction. Distractions work to the advantage of those botching the war. The big issue is why are so many troops getting killed and why is this war turning into a clusterf.ck of a mess. The subject of this thread should be: what to do about better protecting our troops and making Iraq a viable and peaceful democracy. Why isn't the administration doing a better job of running it? Again, think they're doing as well as can be done, and are you proud of the way your administration is running this war? Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

It's a point, and to you it's weak attempt at a point because you don't disagree with where Fox News is coming from. To me and plenty of others (obviously not many in this forum, and that's fine) it's a point and a very solid one. I never saw an anchor get that flustered. There was no hidden agenda -- she was a guest. A guest who was asked questions. Obviously Fox didn't know her well enough, because Fox has an agenda, and the opinion she expressed went against that agenda. That's why the anchor got flustered and nervous. It was not normal, professional journalist behavior. I've never seen these kinds of incidents on any news network. To me it's appauling and I feel embarrassed for these anchors watching them f.ck up like that. Also, I majored in journalism, so I take objectivity seriously, and I definitely wouldn't expect these kinds of f.ck ups coming from a national news channel. If that didn't trouble you, there isn't much that will. There are plenty of better news sources out there though, even ones that take the conservative approach. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

Here's some evidence (if an ad comes up, click the "skip ad" link). She might has well have brought out a muzzle, or better yet, cut to a commercial break, it would have done a better job of saving face. Fair and Balanced? Very professional. Journalism shouldn't have to advertise itself as fair and balanced; it's inherent in what journalism is. In doing that, Fox is trying to compensate for something. This is an example among many, many others, and I like it because it raises a point I made yesterday. If you agree with everything you hear on Fox, of course you're going to go around saying they're objective. Fact is, they are not. Fox's integrity as a news source. Bravo Rupert Murdoch, you've put together a great team. Spew on...and thanks for the laugh. I never found much bias in CBC or BBC news, that's my experience. I second the pat on your back. It really is a BIG disgrace. Yet, if there were a story on how a death affects a family, leaves children parentless, etc....it would only be an unpatriotic conspiracy of the liberal media, because such stories -- real life stories -- have potential to make one question the war. There was an attempt at giving a face to the death toll back in April by ABC. A conservative lackey broadcast group, Sinclair, refused to air the show, by reasoning that it was motivated by a political agenda. Americans should take an interest regardless of whether it's fed to them on the tube or not. But realize it's in the interest of the backers of this war to hide the faces and the fact that this war is not being run successfully; it's in their interest to quash any point that can raise a question. By the way, if McCain runs for president, he's getting my vote. Weren't it for the lies Karl Rove spewed about him being an illegitimate father of a black girl (he has an adopted daughter from Bangladesh) in the SC primaries back in 99/2000, he'd be our president already. We need a commander in chief with an administration that honors and protects our troops, not someone who takes five week vacations with an administration of draft dodgers that run the war halfassed. That's the disgrace and it embarrasses me as an American. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

I don't get the joke, and yes, I do have a sense of humor. And I don't mean to sound preachy here, but I just don't think it's funny when someone farts on the plane. Air is limited, we're all sharing it, so why not be considerate and hold it in? Most of the time the smell arises, someone fesses up and laughs. For me, that doesn't make it any better. Why is the smell of your bowels, and the fact that you can't control them for ten minutes, funny? Some farts have been so strong that I've gotten apoxic at altitude. I just don't think it's cool. I'd say that 80% of the jumps I go on someone farts. Maybe I just have a more efficient digestive system than most people, but I'm proud to say that I don't fart on the plane. And when I feel a need to, I hold it in -- contrary to what my name suggests. But if I'm on your load, you won't hear it from me, you won't even get a bad look or anything. I keep my opinion to myself, but maybe you'll notice that I'm the only guy not getting a 'kick' out of it. Well, I guess I set myself up for a pummeling here, but I had to 'get that out'. Thanks for smelling the rant. PU if nothing else please do what you can to hold it in when going up in the Cessna. Maybe not so accurate and I stand corrected. At the same time, I don't think it's realistic to suggest it's out of his reach, due to the structure of government spending, to make sure troops are equipped as they need to be in combat or driving to the airport in Baghdad. I find it troubling that republicans, who pride themselves on being so strong on the military, have taken this long to respond to the needs of the troops when obviously something has been very wrong for some time. Bush proposes tens of billions more in funding for the war, numerous times since 2003, congress approves it. Soldiers in 2005 are searching amid piles of scrap metal for armour. Something's not right, and I would expect a commander-in-chief to be alarmed by it and get sh.t moving in the right direction much sooner. I think the way this war is being run is amateur and halfassed and we owe our troops better. It was this administration that scoffed at advice from top military commanders to send a much larger number of troops to the war. That's a choice Bush could have made, and is just now starting to wise up to. The support the troops need is best initiated from the top, from the commander-in-chief. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

Right, and this president has a congress that does most of what he likes it to do. Oh wait, it must be those democrats in Congress then. If it weren't for them, our troops would be nuke-proof. Those cool new toys are good publicity, or are our troops really carrying that stuff now? If you hear about it on the tele, it doesn't necessarily mean that our troops are donning it in combat. Only six months ago soldiers were searching among scrap metal piles to enhance their armour, remember Rummy getting asked some questions by a pissed-off soldier a little while back, as to why he had to do that? I'm hoping that we really did correct the problem that quickly, and if so, good for W. for finally wising up two years after starting this war. I like the loaded question, especially the "look her name up on FOX NEWS," that was the best part. What to do about her? Let her be an American and let her express her opinion. Her son is dead. That's her take on her son's death, that he died for an unworthy cause, and that she doesn't want other mothers to feel her pain. Going to tell a mother to shut up about her dead son, label her a terrorist/hippy/communist, tell her to wave a flag instead, not to ask questions, be a patriot and listen to what Fox news is saying about her? Her son just died for a cause has been questionable from the start. The question is what will we do about our President, who is on a five-week vacation, who took a swim right after giving a speech the other day about "sacrifice." The word you use "disgrace" comes to mind when I think of him, not Cindy Sheehan. Bush never went to a soldier's funeral. Or a military hospital. He's cut veteran's benefits. And I won't get into his record as a soldier. How about this for support for our troops: ARM THEM TO THE TEETH. GET THEM BETTER EQUIPMENT AND ARMOR. The billions (your money and mine) spent on this war aren't arming our troops. The money isn't even rebuilding Iraq. Think everything is going as planned, that the prez is running things as well as they can be run? Being American is having an opinion. The founding fathers had an opinion. I support the troops -- my take is make it our #1 priority to protect them, and we're not doing that. And let Cindy Sheehan be the American she is being. No one is out to disgrace troops -- we all care about them. Those who think the cause is so noble should stop pointing fingers and instead go to Iraq and point guns at insurgents. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

Maradona fesses up about the "Hand of God."
masterblaster72 replied to lawrocket's topic in The Bonfire
Maradona was a rat for doing what he did. But there have been tons of other ripoffs in soccer that were never fessed up for (Italy v Korea 2002 for example), so give the guy credit. Bottom line when you're an athlete of that caliber is winning, and that came before being a sportsman for him (unlike Pelé, who was first and foremost a sportsman). Even without the cheat, Argentina still would have won that game because they were simply the superior team. Maradona's other goal in that game (item 3 on that page) proved it -- any team that lets an opponent run circles around it like that won't go far in a world cup. The man's cleaning up his act. He was wrong, but give him credit -- most athletes don't have this kind of courage. And no, I don't think we'll ever see a confession about the Immaculate Reception.
