  1. He was being facetious. He was doing it for about 45 minutes straight and it involved about a dozen callers when I heard it. I'm tellin' ya, either it was the weirdest thing I've ever heard or I was mobilizing something stored in some lipids from "the good old days".
  2. I heard Hannity yesterday afternoon. It was weird, they guy had a total transformation. He wasn't bashing McCain but he said he had come to the realization that maybe McCain's ideas weren't necessarily so bad and that maybe he had been wrong. Given that McCain's moderate voice had garnered so much support that maybe his more extremist views were out of the mainstream. He even actually said that sometimes "Kennedy is right". I just about drove off the road! He also stated that the main point is to win this fall and that it appears that McCain may be the guy to do it. So, for the last few years his hard line ideology was not to be compromised, however if hard line means you lose then maybe softening it may be the best plan. I wanted to call in and make the point that the actual Conservative platform as a whole was raped by the recent administration but they were so power hungry and drunk with control and access to the Treasury that they went temporarily insane. His Hannity sanity moment is just a step towards recovery. Of course, if his ratings suffer because of it he'll probably change his tune.
  3. Yeah, a real spirit of democracy flows through her. You think she'd be so keen to include those votes if Obama had the majority? Sorry, I didn't realize that this was a "bash only" thread and thinking wasn't welcome. Carry on, just clean up after you're done
  4. Only if you'll agree to do video! /Marg [putting any semblance of composure aside] Ooooo!!! Ooooo!!!! Pick me! I'll do it I'll do it I'll do it I'll do it!!! Pleeeeeeeease! [/putting any semblance of composure aside] Well certainly, if you two would like any help I would be happy to be of assistance.
  5. I'm having a tough time figuring out what I think about this issue. The Democratic party said that if Michigan and Florida moved their primaries up that the D's wouldn't count their votes at the convention. All of the front runners agreed to the deal. Hillary showed up in for each State's primary which I thought was wrong considering the agreement. On the other hand, those States' votes should be counted. Disenfranchising the voters seems to be a bad idea so I want to applaud her effort to include them. In short, I think she's doing the right thing but a deal is a deal and it makes her look bad. As an aside, I'm wondering why no one mentions the real reason that the States started moving their primaries earlier. Hint: it has something to do with an election that will probably end up costing at least $5 billion.
  6. This calls for a farcical aquatic ceremony.
  7. How would you fix it? Put all the primaries on the same day, just like the general election. Plus, that way we don't have to keep hearing about it... let everyone vote at the same time and get it over with. I agree, the only other thing I would change would be how it's financed. 100% public financing with equal airtime for each candidate.
  8. Seems overpriced for a speech consisting of "a noun, a verb and 9/11"
  9. According to Michael Gerson, who wrote five of the SOTU addresses, Bush likes to see an outline before Christmas, talks to the writer about why some things are there or why others aren't, it gets worked some more, then it gets reviewed and commented on by every member of the senior WH staff in what is called the "staffing process". It's finished well ahead of time. The speech appears to be a White House staff product. I'm not sure if the winks and smirks during the delivery are written in, I'm guessing probably not.
  10. As for content, I especially liked the firm stance that he's outlined against earmarks. He demands that Congress put an end to them, after he's gone. Funny, don't you think, that he didn't veto a single spending bill when the GOP was in control of Congress and spending like drunken sailors. And I'm sure that his departing executive orders will involve insuring that war spending is included in the budget, that the WH must comply with all subpoenas, and the the FOIA office be defunded. Ooops. Looks like they're not waiting for that last one. http://leahy.senate.gov/press/200801/012408e.html
  11. As I mentioned in another thread, I think he does a great Frank Caliendo impersonation. He simply nails it! As for content, I especially liked the firm stance that he's outlined against earmarks. He demands that Congress put an end to them, after he's gone. And lastly, thank the manifestation of your God of choice that he didn't announce that he's starting another war. Let's hope he means what he didn't say.
  12. Pretty funny! The sad sad sad part is that Monica's X's wife as Pres would likely be a step towards competency in the WH. One good thing I cay say about the current occupant, he does a fantastic Frank Caliendo impersonation.
  13. while we're blowing smoke. Liberal axiom: if we're nice to everyone else, they will return the favor. Peace will reign. Just like they did with Jesus. Seems more likely than "if we attack, kill, suppress and manipulate people while plundering their natural resources, they'll learn to love us and actually embrace the relationship. You know, just like the Romans. I think it was Teddy Caesar Roosevelt who said "speak loudly and beat people with a big stick.
  14. Liberal axiom: Now why do the terrorists want to attack us? Maybe if we figure that out and address the issue in an open and honest manner we can solve the problem and we won't have to build a wall around our country and subject its citizenry to ever increasing government intrusion and debt. Neo Con axiom: Keep the populace ignorant and afraid and it will be easier to funnel the unborn taxpayer money into our war profiteering enterprises. Screw 'em. My kids will be just fine.
  15. Oh, don't be so hard on the guy. This was so much more eloquent http://politicalhumor.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?zi=1/XJ&sdn=politicalhumor&cdn=entertainment&tm=6&f=01&su=p284.8.150.ip_&tt=9&bt=0&bts=0&zu=http%3A//youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3DB5xVRXLgLxw I found this video more entertaining (No it's not the song-bomb) http://myspacetv.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=2583432 I don't know about "more entertaining" but it certainly was easier to watch.

  17. One of his greatest hits: "[Some of my opponents] do not want to change the Constitution, but I believe it's a lot easier to change the constitution than it would be to change the word of the living God, and that's what we need to do is to amend the Constitution so it's in God's standards rather than try to change God's standards,"
  18. I'm starting to think that EV may be my next move. The wife has a Camry with 215K on it. This site is giving me some ideas. http://www.electroauto.com/index.html My only question is range but if I use it as my five day/wk commuter vehicle then charging it with a roof top solar panel should take care of it. Not sure if that's the decision yet but I'm steadily moving from "hey, that would be nice" to "why the hell not?"
  19. I agree completely. I think "courageous" is an overstatement. It's a step in the right direction but it's a baby step. Negating oil drilling subsidies and transferring those funds towards solar and wind development would have pegged my courageous meter.
  20. You beat me to it. There's been lots of pressure on that executive's office lately. I wonder if all five "man sized safes" were "accidentally" left open during the fire
  21. You're right. The influx of that crap into damn near everything that we eat has been a long time in the making. I'd be willing to bet that HFCS is probably the third ingredient on the nutrition label of more than half of the items you find in the grocery store. That's why I bought some stock in a company that makes a diabetes monitoring device
  22. Who is he so wise as Homer? The sugar lobby is one of the most influential in Washington and one of the biggest recipients of corporate welfare. mmmmmmm.......donut.
  23. They would use sugar instead, just like they used to here and just like they still do in other countries. The reason that they use HFCS is because of the sugar tariffs that we put on imports and the massive corporate welfare that goes to companies like ADM to protect the domestic sugar industry.
  24. With a 600% increase in ethanol production it's not just "big oil". And with this, at least in the short term, food prices will go up and food reserves (are already) go down ...and the workers south of the border will be even less competitive than they were (didn't think that was possible) and guess what that means to you immigration issue voters? Don't get me wrong, I like ethanol as an alternative fuel but I'd rather we make it from the corn that goes to create high fructose corn syrup and keep it out of our food. We'd be better off fiscally as well as physically.
