  1. Recent repost or seven year old repost? If the former, I apologize for not reading everything posted in SC. I am weak .....but still employed
  2. Free brats and beer appears to be a rumor. There were apparently vendors selling those items. There does appear to be some live entertainment from "Patrice" and "Reamonn" before 7:00pm while people were waiting according to spiegel online international.
  3. Wow! I wonder if the Onion offers stock picks! http://www.theonion.com/content/node/28784
  4. In my observation Obama seems to be having a pretty good run of positive stories but I don't know if can attribute that to the media or to Obama. He's a very popular personality and the fact that he's so well received seems to be the story. But also don't forget that he's had a history of constant press coverage, partially because of the hard fought battle with Hillary and also because of the mud fight that was brought on by the Hannity types. As I mentioned above, his popularity overseas with both the citizenry as well as the leadership IS the story. When McCain went to meet with the same people a few months back I don't recall the public enthusiasm. Maybe it was there and not covered by the media but I'm having a difficult time believing that 200K German flag waving McCain supporters were not photographed and used by his campaign manager. And you used Bush as a comparison, but he isn't running. The comparison, in light of the OP, must be made to McCain. That's true, I used Bush to make my point because he is apparently the polar opposite to Obama with regard overseas popularity and it makes for a greater contrast (waving vs. burning etc.).
  5. And how does your opinion of a politician alter your interpretation of the article? Try a couple of headlines: "Bush goes to Europe and is met by thousands of American flag burning protesters". Is that an example of media bias? "Obama goes to Europe and is met by thousands of American flag waving supporters". Is that an example of media bias? Is a story about public sentiment biased because of how it reflects on the politician?
  6. Dude, edit quick! You know they're reading our mail and they're surely going to yank your card for that one
  7. As most of us knew you would Alright, fair enough. I know there's a difference in philosophical theory but you're hard pressed to find a conservative these days. They're still suffering from the hangover from their legislative excesses and still have yet to divorce themselves fully from the radical extremist wing of the Republican party that still holds significant influence.
  8. "I'll take nonsensical verse and mythical beasts for $100 Alex!" Twas brillig, and the slithy toves Did gyre and gimble in the wabe: All mimsy were the borogoves, And the mome raths outgrabe. "Beware the Conservative, my son! The jaws that bite, the claws that catch! Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun The frumious Bandersnatch!" .........
  9. Yes it does. And that's a flag to most of us of crappy news reporting.
  10. The hosting cities won't suffer. Sure, they won't collect the fuel taxes but there's a whole lot of money that will be left behind with the local service industries.
  11. Who would have thought that Ed McMahon was at the "lower end of the socioeconomic ladder"? Keep thinking about it, the revelation will trickle down eventually. Ok, now that the jab is out of the way I have to admit that even Reagan wouldn't approve of what our Congress has allowed happen. Trickle down doesn't work when you deregulate a business only to give it a Treasury teet. In addition we've legalized loan sharking, let Wall Street get too imaginative and worst of all (IMO) we've allowed the banks to base their business models on failure. Banks need/desire/cultivate customers who can't completely fulfill their contracts because they make most of their money these days from delinquency fees.
  12. Ok. You got me. Just call me "daddyjumps" now
  13. I like the way the Motley Fool guys summed it up: Should Schumer be blamed for IndyMac's demise, as a handful of pundits continue to insist? He's undoubtedly responsible for the timing of the collapse, but it's silly to blame him entirely. IndyMac killed itself; Schumer just organized the funeral.
  14. And if he kept his mouth shut and didn't point out the obvious hole in boat then you would blame him for neglecting his duties.
  15. Hey dude, if you've had enough and just want to take a hook knife to your reserve then that's your prerogative. But there's no reason to make the rest of us pay for it.
  16. I always love how liberals ask a question to answer another question.! You didn't ask a question. You were too busy spewing unsubstantiated, fact devoid, derisive, partisan generalizations. Just thought you might be interested in a couple of "facts".
  17. Dude, quit bogarting it. Put it down and step away from the product! Ok, I can answer the first one. The Democrats hold a simple majority, the simplest possible in the Senate as evidenced by the susceptibility to stagnation due (in part) to 73 (record number) of Republican filibusters. Ok now you're going to have to help me on those last two
  18. Electricity costs less/mile than gasoline. Most of the charging would occur during off peak hours while people were at home. But yes, we would indeed have to continue to build up the infrastructure and sources of supply if we were going to shift to all electric. I personally think that solar thermal technology has the most to offer WRT newer, cleaner sources. Additionally, I think the larger supply problem involved with an electric auto society would be the impact on the auto parts and service industries. Those guys are going to get hammered. Electric cars don't need nearly as many consumables or service as their petroleum counterparts.
  19. That sounds great. And if we spend the tax money that we use to subsidize the petroleum industry and divert it to alternative energy development then we can leave it there as a strategic reserve for our gas guzzling military instead of burning it all up as quickly as possible, create jobs in America and (inhale) help drive the developing green technology sector instead of waiting for the Europeans and Arabs to it thereby continuing our dependency on foreign sources for our energy needs. (whew!) How's that for a run on sentence?
  20. Good one! Let's keep 'em coming! A man was in a bad accident and was injured. But the only permanent damage he suffered was the loss of both ears, which made him very self-conscious. However, he received a large sum of money from his insurance company. It was always his dream to own his own business, so he went out and purchased a small, but expanding computer firm. But he realized that he had no business knowledge at all, so he decided that he would have to hire someone to run the business. He picked out three top candidates, and interviewed each of them. The last question of the interview was always the same. "Do you notice anything unusual about me?" he asked the first candidate. "Yes. You have no ears." He quickly eliminated the first candidate. "Do you notice anything unusual about me?" he asked the second candidate. "Yes. You have no ears." He quickly eliminated the second candidate. "Do you notice anything unusual about me?" he asked the third candidate. "Yes. You're wearing contacts." Thinking he had found the man for the job he said, "That's correct. How did you know?" "You can't wear glasses if you don't have any freakin' ears."
