  1. Quote What did do you think of the Taliban's oppression of the citizens of Afghanistan? /reply] Fixed your question for you.
  2. That's a first. Do I have to bring beer or is Luci buying?
  3. No, I don't think it occurred. Otherwise I'd be laughing my ass off at all those people with their hands in the air wondering why they still have their clothes on. "Maybe their doing it by alphabetical order"
  4. You're right. First it was "WMD's" and "mushroom clouds". Then it was "WMD related programs". Then "WMD related program activity". Then it was "well he wanted WMD's" Try to keep up. But since it was a premeditated war in the first place what difference does the daily mutating official line make anyway?
  5. Don't give them any ideas!
  6. The war profiteer who started this whole convoluted thread.
  7. Absolutely unbelievable. I can't believe that anyone is still reciting this line of crap. Your own leadership which you defend on a daily basis doesn't even say this shit. As for someone's previous post about al Qaeda in Iraq while Saddam was there, I'd just like to point out that that camp was in northern KURDISH territory, protected by the no fly zone that we imposed, and was under the control of Jalal Talibani........who is now the fucking PRESIDENT OF IRAQ!
  8. On the drive home I decided I wasn't going to let this one go. I have a question. What would you say if a bunch of people said they wanted to invade Iraq and transform the military so that we could better extend the US's influence throughout the world. Then those very same people get elected and appointed to the highest public offices in the country but the only thing holding them back is a lack of public support for their lofty goals. Then along comes a galvanizing event that gives that leadership unprecedented public support and a rallying sense of nationalism. Do you think it's possible that those leaders might use that event to their advantage? Is that crazy, America bashing thought? Or is that a logical assumption? Hmmm... let me think of some more crazy, irrational stuff like......"they might use planes as missiles" vs. "no one expected them to use planes as missiles". Or, hmmm....there's this Arab guy on a watch list got some kookie financial thing going on, taking flying lessons and doesn't want to know how to land.....gee...that seems weird....Oh! Wife Swap is on. Gotta go!!!
  9. You mean world domination? It doesn't work. Romans did it and failed. Napolean, Hitler? Failed. Was it part of the vision of the Framers? No freakin' way. But as I've said in earlier threads if this is what we're all about then I wish our leadership would admit its imperialist ambitions and let our voters decide if that's the route we should take. As for the religious war idea, a few years ago I would have said you were mistaken. But with the bible thumper we have at the helm right now we might as well be painting big red crosses on our tanks. Damn I can't wait to vote.
  10. Didn't even bother to read the link, or the names of the people associated with that site did you? What, no crazy emoticon?
  11. Yep. ...We aim to change this. We aim to make the case and rally support for American global leadership. As the 20th century draws to a close, the United States stands as the world's preeminent power. Having led the West to victory in the Cold War, America faces an opportunity and a challenge: Does the United States have the vision to build upon the achievements of past decades? Does the United States have the resolve to shape a new century favorable to American principles and interests?.... http://www.newamericancentury.org/statementofprinciples.htm
  12. The history of the world proves this statement to be false, and naively stupid at that. ... No it doesn't. History proves my point. We're doing the same thing in Iraq now that the Brits did 80 years ago. And no one said anything about "lowering DEFENSES". What we're doing over there has nothing to do with our defense. My assertion is that we reap what we sow.
  13. I'd respect his conviction. It would show more integrity than sending other people in to do a job that you're not willing to do. No, that was Cheney, Wolfowitz, Rummy and the rest of the PNAC folks. They finally got the "catalyzing event like pearl harbor" that they were looking for since 1997. http://www.newamericancentury.org/RebuildingAmericasDefenses.pdf
  14. John what do the two have to do with each other? Do you think I am responsible for the murders because I am tan? I am unaware of your skin color. What I am aware of, however, by your words here, is your one-sided anti-American bias on such issues. We notice that you bash America when U.S. soldiers do something bad, but you are quiet as a mouse when Muslims do something bad. We notice that you bash America when you don't like our politics, but you don't utter a peep when Muslims threaten death and destruction. Perhaps if you raised the same outrage over what those "tan" people are doing, then you would have some credibility. But instead, it just seems like you're only interested in bashing us "white" people. Yeah, we notice your double-standard. One suggestion, before you post something like this, apply it to yourself and switch "tan" and "white". Personally, I speak out when I see the things that we do wrong because they're WRONG and I expect better from us. It disgusts me how low we've stooped recently. We're supposed to lead by example and I'm sick of the "well.....they did too" defense. It's pre-adolescent bullshit.
  15. I am not joking here. Why does everybody think I'm joking? Does this seem like a funny topic to you: aids, high divorce rates, gay people, and all of the other stuff that going on in the world today? Why would I joke about stuff like this? Maybe that's what the problem is today. All these people thinking life is just one big joke and it's all just going to work out. I wish that were the case. I really do. But I'm sorry, it's not. The way we're going, it's going to be hell on Earth. Eternal fires down every streetcorner. The cities will be one big slum filled with junkies, gangbangers, and all kinds of criminal activity happening. Everybody else will just sit back until it's too late. Well I ask yu, when is it too late? When will be too far down the slope to climb back up? I do not want my children to grow up in a world where people can just go around biting the heads off chickens. I'm going to do something about, as best as I possibly can. This is not a joke. Man, this rant does to a thread what Dark Side of the Moon does for a party.
  16. Yep! What they need is a goooood liberatin'! Maybe after bin Laden leaves. But alas, in the mean time I guess they'll just have to settle for a US Treasury note sundae with some military hardware on top.
  17. Pipe dream You're right. We haven't learned anything from our history so why should I expect that to change now? Here's a new game, think ten or fifteen years down the road. Who is the current "ally", receiver of US money, military aid and political rhetoric, that we're going to demonize and attack next? My bet's on Pakistan (just maybe not that far in the future).
  18. So if I go back to around 1979 or earlier is your reason still valid? Yes. 1950's US installation of the Shah in Iran (nothing like overthrowing a democracy, but that was about oil too). 1940's when we started our "don't ask Saudi Arabia about human rights issues so we can be partners" oil deal, then there's the creation and backing of Israel thing (multifaceted that one) as well as the post Ottoman Empire carving up of the middle east. The Brits take the brunt on that one.
  19. I agree. Since everyone knows that the amendment doesn't have the votes to pass this is an exercise in futility, unless you're trying to get your base to the polls this fall. And I agree with your partnering agreement concept but in this climate it's going to be harder to get "marriage" off of your tax forms than it would be to get "under God" back out of the Pledge. Can you say "war on marriage"?
  20. I'd be willing to bet that if we hadn't messed with them in the first place then they wouldn't be terrorizing us. Kinda like the old "ow, it hurts when I do this". Well, don't do that.
  21. I had to snip the first part of your reply. It hurts too much to bang my head against the wall. But your last comment makes me think you're on to something. That would pretty much leave a bunch of headless politicians in DC. Count me in, although we'd probably have to come up with something to take care of that presidential succession thing. The current list is obviously too short.
  22. To answer your question, I'd say "no". Are we insuring that the "war" on terror will continue to grow? Yes.
  23. Those lyrics are too cerebral. You've got to write for the brain stem if you want the big money. Wrap up the package with a couple of "yeehaaaa", "blow 'em to bits" concert T-shirts and you're golden!
  24. I agree. It's not that different from blowing up a country which wasn't threatening anyone and then talking about what a great job we're doing in reconstruction (which we're not by the way). All that songs like this do is fuel the hatred of those who wish to harm us, and make money for Black's recording company.
  25. From your article: "He says that the increased solar brightness over the past 20 years has not been enough to cause the observed climate changes..." and "While the established view remains that the sun cannot be responsible for all the climate changes we have seen in the past 50 years or so, this study is certainly significant," They're talking about increased radiation being a possible CONTRIBUTOR, not THE REASON. Why are we playing the mutually exclusive game? Is this a "with us or against us" thing?
