  1. "Illegal immigration amnesty" is still in play. I could be wrong but I don't think the Republicans will bring that one up prior to Nov. It's a serious wedge issue for their own party. They need to show a united front. So I guess they'll bring up something important like same sex Bingo. Actually, my guess is that they'll milk the new proposed legislation to give the Pres the power he claims to already have to make up arbitrary rules for tribunals. You know, a "tough on terrorism" posture. 9/11-9/11-9/11-9/11.
  2. Sorry, but I'm not sure which post you're replying to. If it's the one about the girl being killed then you don't really need to read the story. Just looking at the pictures shows that the official result of the Israeli Army investigation is crap. She was run over. And I know that both sides embellish or discount. And that's what I'm pointing out. Both sides are acting poorly. Also, what's going on right now is really unfortunate. This is going to destroy any hope for peace talks any time soon. But I guess we know one thing. Ehud Olmert obviously isn't going to let the hardliners down.
  3. Yea. I'm curious where the trials will go. The government's hurt itself in that regard. If they go to civilian court and if there is proof of torture in any way then the evidence collected through any interrogation will be inadmissible. What I'm really concerned with though is the detention of the other 400 people and what the SC has to say about it. Is that on the docket any time soon?
  4. And their investigators are apparently as effective at telling the truth as our own congressional investigators are. Here's Israel's report on their investigation of the Rachael Corrie incident. "However, the army said that military police investigating the incident found that Corrie was killed by earth and building rubble falling on her as she tried to climb on a pile of earth while the bulldozer was operating." http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/3025016.stm And the pictures of what actually happened. I wouldn't call a bulldozer blade "falling rubble". Fucking liars. http://electronicintifada.net/cgi-bin/artman/exec/view.cgi/7/1248
  5. Hey, I don't have a dog in this fight, either; I just see what the facts are. As hard as some might find it to believe, neither do I. But the reason that I point out the things that I do is because your recent post pretty much illustrates what I see as the problem. You can quote international law to condemn Syria, Iran or Hamas' actions or actions by proxy yet you defend Israel's right to break international law when it suits them. Both parties are screwing up and BOTH should be held accountable. And for the record, what Israel is doing today is way out of line...again.
  6. True. But it certainly would be symbolic to repeal the first one that the Framers came up with.
  7. We (the US) did. We simply said that, as a precondition, all they had to do was issue a statement saying "As a duly elected sovereign government, we hereby nullify Hamas's mission statement calling for the destruction of our next-door neighbor, we recognize that it is a sovereign nation just as we are, and we renounce the use of violence against it." It would have taken them all of, oh, about 5 minutes to do it. The international recognition, and the funding, would have poured in immediately. But they didn't do it. That was their choice, and their chance, and they tossed it aside. It has been said that Palestinian leaders never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity. Seems to apply here. Yes, "we" did tell them what to do. We're good at that. On the other hand I'm sure that the Palestinians are wondering why "we" don't similarly tell Israel to quit violating UN resolutions, especially considering that those are resolutions that we *didn't* veto. Like I said in an earlier thread, you can't tame an aggressive dog by chaining him in a corner and starving him. It only makes things worse, unless of course you're looking for a reason to put him down.
  8. Try coercing someone at the DZ to enlighten a fart.
  9. Fixed Completed it for you. Sometimes an incomplete truth can be so misleading as to be an untruth. Thanks, but I wasn't trying to be misleading. But that's showing that we were blackmailing the government in its infancy. There was absolutely no respectful diplomacy extended to Hamas and I think that was a mistake. At the very least we should have publically offered to meet with them as the new Palestinian leadership. Then, if things went to crap.....we go from there.
  10. Do you realize how difficult it is to resist a "half mast" joke??!?!?!? Ooops.
  11. All those flag halter tops & Tshirt; those hats with obvious flag designs; flag pillows & towels -- that's generally desecrating the flag. Wendy W. Yup. Just think how people would have deal with a 4th of July picnic with all of those flag napkins. How do you lay them down? Can you set them on the table....or your lap? Can you even use them? Holy crap! I can't throw them away!!!!!
  12. There are many ways to "desecrate" a flag without burning it. One example, if you have one affixed to your car I suggest that you stop and pick up a portable light on the way home. Also, I wonder how many people know how to display it properly when hanging it vertically. I'm sure that local officials and the courts will just LOVE all of the extra work they can expect. Personally, considering what's been going on for the last few years, I think that upside down is appropriate.
  13. Putting the freedom of speech issue aside, has anyone actually considered what might happen if those idiots actually passed an amendment against desecration of the flag? Think about it for a while. Grab your favorite copy of the US code and check out Title 4, chapter 1.
  14. Tout ca change, tout c'est que la meme chose. Iran 1953 Chile 1973 Don't forget the US. I just can't pin the date down yet.
  15. Well, your plan sucks because there's one group in there worth saving -- the Jews. They are well worth protecting, if for no other reason than to enable their many positive contributions to mankind in the future as they have the last few thousand years. Their loss would be a true mile-marker in the demise of us all. Can't say the same for the opposition. There's some damn scary thought processes goin' on 'round here. I mean, thanks for the honesty but now I've got to get the hairs on the back of my neck to lay back down.
  16. It was not allowed to function as a legitimate entity. Right after the election (a democratic thing that we're "spreading") and before Hamas officially took over the leadership position the United States said "we won't deal with them", as did Israel. Israel also cut off the $25 million or so that they collect every month for the Palestinian Authority. The Palestinians went for over two months without getting paid for their work. The US denied it but the plan was to make things difficult for the Palestinians to the point that they might call for a new election to replace the "ineffective" leadership. Pretty shitty if you ask me. We're spending billions of dollars to promote democracy (supposedly) but when the election doesn't go the way we intended then we ignore the results and try to remove the leadership.
  17. From someone who has no vested interest in this, other than to help fucking fund it, I have one objective question. Not to sound insensitive but......why is such a big deal being made about the kidnap of one Israeli soldier when Israel has been targeting, shooting at, hitting/missing Palestinian leadership targets? And those misses by the way have resulted in collateral damage. I'm just trying to find out why one person's life is ok to waste but another's is sacred. A few years ago the Israelis bulldozed an American protester and there was absolutely no mention of it here on the US homefront. If she had been killed in Iraq or Iran we would have named the resulting lightning war after her. I can't help but feel like I'm being sold something.
  18. This is Palestine from post WWI to 1948. You know what's funny is that your attachment rebukes your statement. Palestine was not a "country" but a territory under UK protection. As was pretty much everything else. I'm pointing out that the Palestinians had just as much if not greater claim to the area pre-1948. Unless of course you want to go back a couple of thousand years, then you get to my take on the "ownership" issue. The are is just as much "theirs" as it is "the other guy's". Both sides, and even the warring Christians have a historic claim to the land as "theirs/ours". So, I agree with the notion of playing hardball. Either Israel and the Palestinians let us in as peacekeepers and try to hammer this out once and for all or we take our money and leave it up to them to fight it out for another 2000 years.
  19. In case you missed the recent thread on this I thought I'd remind you that we, well the "US" we, are sending Israel $12 million per day. That *might* have something to do with it.
  20. This is Palestine from post WWI to 1948.
  21. Maybe we should give them money, tanks and aircraft like we do Israel. Then they'll be "freedom fighters" instead of "terrorists". I saw another article while I was trying to decide if I should chime in on this thread. It had a quote from a Palestinian man whose wife and 18 month old child are being held in an Israeli prison. Sounds like their detention policies are even worse than ours.
  22. http://www.defensetech.org/archives/002522.htmlImagine that. I wonder if Hasert has some land nearby too. Probably. If not, we could always pay for another interstate straight to his house.
  23. I don't have time to dig too deeply but under the right conditions it could probably still harm people for decades if sealed and stored below 15 degrees C. I haven't found anything about sealed storage degradation. Only what happens when exposed to air, soil or water. They've had some that's been dredged up by fisherman and done some damage due to the protective crust that forms when exposed to seawater. Of course we're talking about direct contact here. The stuff also degrades steel so that's a consideration when considering storage in a drum under the sand near the Iranian border.
  24. THE FRENCH ARE STILL USING WMD'S!!!!?!?!?! LET'S GO GET 'EM!!!! Sorry, I know I misrepresented your post but I couldn't resist
  25. And you have not said a word about most of those people being killed while he was our ally. Actually, when we were sending money to Saddam between 1982 and 1988, 1988 was the year that we aided him the most. I think the figure is about $125 million.
