Looks like we are making good progress in Iraq

Looks like we are making good progress in Iraq
idrankwhat replied to akarunway's topic in Speakers Corner
Normally I might agree with this statement, but not in this case. If you're going to be a Defense secretary who ignores the advice of the military leadership in favor of his own gut instinct and the advice of political think tanks, then he needs to lead the charge. -
Use their military to protect their settlers as they move from the illegal settlements back behind the green line. Then they can ask for and accept help from the international community. That seems reasonable.

Q: How many Democrats does it take to change a lightbulb?
idrankwhat replied to dorbie's topic in Speakers Corner
Nah, it's dark all right. He's the one who turned out the light, hired his buddies to do it who then hired illegal immigrants to do it before they threw them in jail, gave the same buddies a contract to fix it even though it wasn't broken but only turned off, they didn't do it but he paid them anyway, gave them a big fat tip and charged the whole thing to the unborn child of the shop owner who has a whole shelf full of light bulbs but is going out of business because his son, who was supposed to come back from his short stint in the national guard can't come home to help out and no one's buying his stuff anyway because they just spent all their money at the gas station. -
I don't for one moment believe that the real reason for the offensive is because of the kidnapping of a single soldier, unless of course it were possibly Olmert's son. An excuse, yes. The reason, no. There has been no cease fire from either side so any cries of "we left them alone but they still attack" is disingenuous. And the reason that I say that we should stop aid to Israel is that the level of aid to go Israel is way off the scale compared to what goes to the PA. Also, Israel seems content to just take our money and ignore our official condemnation of their actions. (Yea, I know I know. We say don't do that yet we enable you. I think it's another lousy example of our foreign policy hypocrisy).

maybe not. but its as valid if not more valid that the arguements stated here why this land is not theirs. All current maps I've seen show Israel occupying land outside of their borders. Regardless of whether or not it's called Palestinian land it's still not internationally recognized as being Israel's. So, the occupation is illegal and there are numerous resolutions stating as much, that weren't vetoed by the US.

Talk about an inaccurate oversimplification! So I guess that the Gaza OFFENSIVE going on right now is Israel's idea of peace. You and I have talked about this before and it's obvious that we disagree about who's entitled to what land and who's victimizing who. I stand by my assertion that they only way to sort this out is by first having the US withdraw all of it's financial support until the Israeli military stands down and then sending in massive numbers of international peacekeepers and actual diplomats. Both the Israelis and the Palsetinians need to be forced to sit at the table and talk. Sure, the timing was suspect but the PA did actually speak the words "Israel has a right to exist" a week ago. That was a small window of opportunity that was slammed closed by Olmert.

Check your history and you'll find that powerful imperial countries have a habit of decending upon, destabilizing and controlling weaker RESOURCE RICH countries. It's very profitable if you can exploit the local labor, limit development and just harvest their resources for your gain. It's even more profitable if you then turn around and loan them back their money in such a manner that they can never pay off the debt, only the interest.

Who would you vote for or like in office in 2008
idrankwhat replied to kenneth21441's topic in Speakers Corner
From what I read in the check out aisle she's already experienced the commander in chief position. That may explain the "my husband" slip a couple of years back...wink wink, nudge nudge...say no more eh -
He'll be back on the menu by the summer of 2008. If not, then that means he's no longer necessary because Diebold has "fixed" their machines.

http://english.aljazeera.net/HomePage I've read several articles from this site. Believe it or not, they're pretty reasonable in their view, which is quite different from our view. Here's one from the BBC about the newest resolution. I guess that means that Israel probably now has at least 4 times as many resolutions against it as Iraq had. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/5154594.stm

That seems to be the stock answer to any one whom criticizes Israel or any group that happens to be of the Jewish fait. No matter how valid the criticism is your considered anti-Semitic. I don’t know but that’s getting to be old. I wonder why no one asked the professor to define "semitic".

Why, you sound downright fiscally conservative. Too bad neither party falls in that line. -

Actually I wish they'd all just go home. They can keep their paychecks, just don't come back to work and spend any more of our money. The best service they give our country is when they're in recess. -
North Korea: Two Missiles Test Fired, A Third Failed
idrankwhat replied to Michele's topic in Speakers Corner
Now the North Koreans failure to successfully launch a missile is GWB's fault. That's precious. Sorry if that's what you read. That's not what I meant. Actually that doesn't make any sense. Take out "failure to successfully launch" and insert "desire to" and I would probably agree. -
North Korea: Two Missiles Test Fired, A Third Failed

Apparently you're mistaken. But feel free to go on your rant about how it's "all Clinton's fault" and that Bush has dealt with NK in the only rational manner possible using his sound diplomatic policy. (damn, I can't believe I actually put those words in the same sentence without falling out of my chair laughing) But really, why aren't we "liberating"? That's what compassionate conservatism is all about right? Liberation? Pre-emptive self defense? Actually I guess it's not "pre-emptive" any more. Yea, I know I'm taking personal shots at Dubya, but that's because he's failed us in everything he's done. This is just the most recent. -

It would be nice to have a commander in chief who actually consulted with and listened to his military leadership. It would also give him the chance to wipe the recent soil off of his reputation. -

I'd imagine that non-Americans feel the same way about the US having so much to say about their systems. -

"Rooted" is the right term. Unfortunately too many have forgotten or ignored those roots. -
North Korea: Two Missiles Test Fired, A Third Failed
idrankwhat replied to Michele's topic in Speakers Corner
No, their sitting on their asses right now trying to figure out how to deal with a very serious issue. But gee, I'd bet those oppressed North Koreans could use some liberation. I wonder why oh why the US isn't interested in "spreading democracy" to the poor, downtrodden citizens of a (resource poor) country that has weapons of mass destruction and is directly threatening the United States and its allies by openly developing and testing ICBM's. This is just one more fuck up for the boy george to add to his collection. -
Good timing. The answer is not that far off of why our government is interested in any particular issue. Well financed lobbyists, specifically AIPAC (American Israel Public Affairs Committee). If you want to hear an interesting piece about them listen to this. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5537557

It's called a "test". You know, kinda like that thing we do with our expensive missile defenseless system. In case you didn't notice, no one's laughing. -

Damn it. We have a monarchy AND we have to pick up the tab for the election. Who's bad idea was that?!?!?!?!?! -
I think you should post this on Wikipedia under "Characterization of Bush (43) administration policy/mission statement". It's a perfect summation.
