Here's the question. Are jump suits really necessary? I understand the grips for RW, the extra drag for FF and the protecting your clothes against stains/dirty. But couldn't old baggy pair of pants do the same? I was thinking the same thing, I have a new freefly suit (I jumped with it only twice, and it was awsome), but I got it double lined (the website said "for more drag and stability", and I thought "well how could that be a bad thing?") but I am going to sweat my ass off in it this summer! Imagine jumping in a double lined suit, in July, in Fla., in a hot plane full of other sweaty bodies!!! I thought about removing the lining, but that seems too involved, unless I go at it with a pair of scissors (but I don't want to mess it up!). Can I jump in shorts and a tank? Muff Brother 3723

Vicodin, I find makes me a little zippy and it takes away any pain I have, I wouldn't take more then 1500mgs though, then you'll be too high to accomplish anything! I've never taken muscle relaxers, so I can't comment on those, so I would say go with the Vicodin! Muff Brother 3723

Just curious, are there other trainings need to pack at a dz, besides a basic packing course? Muff Brother 3723

And you'll hear on the dz often: "Better to be down here, wishing you were up there, then up there, wishing you were down here" Keeping my fingers crossed for you for tomorrow! Muff Brother 3723

I don't know if recurrency coaching is cheaper, but my coach jumps are $80 plus! I was going to ask a friend who is a coach to help me so the cost wouldn't be so much, but I would definatly ask the dzo first! Muff Brother 3723 -

DZ on crappy wheather days, now thats dangerous. When skydivers can't jump they get creative! Muff Brother 3723 -
Skydive long island. I have reservations about jumping out of it, just because I know it will be cramped (I hadn't considered that it would take longer to get to altitude), and I imagine as people go out, the plane must really wobble and shift from the weight difference of people exiting! Not sure as a newbie who has only jumped out of an Otter, Caravan, and skyvan, if it is something I'm willing to try. Then again, if I don't, I'll have to wait til the 30th when the caravan returns!!! Muff Brother 3723

My daughter is 11 months old, I jumped about a week after I found out I was pregnant (just once), I don't see why you would have to give the sport up, being a parent may mean that you have to cut back on how much time is spent at the dz, and your priorities may have to shift to someone besides yourself. Just because you are having a kid doesn't mean you have to give up the things you love, but they may have to take a back burner to the little one that will need you to be there in his/her life. Good luck, PM if you have any questions about 1st time parenting. Muff Brother 3723

We all have to wear jumpsuits (even tandems wear them), so my necklace sits safetly in my shirt, under my zipped up jumpsuit Muff Brother 3723 -
Closing pin Jewelry tradition/faux pas
huka551 replied to huka551's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Incidently when I got it, they called it a "Preyor Pin", and people who asked me about it said that its called a closing pin, and if I refered to it as a preyor pin someone might not know what I was talking about. Either way I knew its function, and took it as a symbol of a love for the sport -
Was it expensive? Muff Brother 3723

Closing pin Jewelry tradition/faux pas
huka551 replied to huka551's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
After I made my level 1 jump (knowing I had to stop for the season) a skydiving friend gave me a closing pin, to wear on my necklace. When I showed up at another dz to restart AFF, people asked me if I was a student, why was I wearing a closing pin? As if I had no business wearing one as a student. I replied, because I fell in love with the sport. I also wanted to be part of the 'club' of air junkees, because that was how I felt. Looking at the sky on cloudy days spotting jumpable holes, looking up on sunny days thinking "Damn I could be jumping right now"! Equating every possible wheather condition to jumpable or not? Does anyone have opinions on people that haven't graduated wearing closing pins? What are the traditions associated with it? Muff Brother 3723 -
So where would I take a course with Scott Miller, or any other canopy coach? Muff Brother 3723

I did 7 tandems before groundschool. I didn't have enough money to comply with the 'jump once every 30 days' criteria until I finished AFF. Tandems were fun for me (doing unstable exits, turns, forward motion, and canopy control, not to mention exposure to freefall) After my first tandem I wasn't really sure, it took about an hour after I got home for my brain to catch up, so I decided to try it again (dive flow) and since then I've wanted nothing more then to jump. I did groundschool at the end of the season and level 1, then squeaked in another tandem just for fun before the season ended! Finished AFF like 3 weeks ago, and hungry for more! Tandems truley help the sport! IMO Muff Brother 3723

Atempting freeflying before having an A license
huka551 replied to Foursprouts's topic in Safety and Training
What would be some fun things to do belly flying, to specifically learn more air awarness? I hear everyone saying 50 plus jumps before attempting freeflyng, but what are some things to do in those jumps? (specifically if your not jumping with someone else) Muff Brother 3723 -
