More Bad News - I lost my job ... again ...
GrumpySmurf replied to CanuckInUSA's topic in The Bonfire
Technology? What do you specialize in? Trane in La Crosse, Wi just opened a req for 5 more embedded s/w engineers. I hear decent salaries and good relocation benefits. Don't know if they sponsor TN-1 or H-1Bs though. -
Think 87 oct is 2.09 a gallon here in SE Minnesota - have to use 92 in the bike, and I think it was like $7 to fill it up after 3 days of riding around and one 70 mile trip.

As my pa would say, "A-L-I-M-O-N-Y, spells trouble for me." And as my ma taught me, "You don't marry for the money... you divorce for it." So single sounds pretty good from a financial point of view

:0:0 Too many errands to run prior to trip - sneaking g/f off to one of the Sandals resorts in Jamaica on Wednesday for a week - she doesn't know where we are going - only how long we will be gone and what sorts of clothes to pack. Figured it would be a good b-day surprise for her. Got to play on the bike though yesterday - absolutely beautiful here in Minnesota-land - in the 60's, bright and sunny. As crabby and as expensive as that 2-wheeled beastie can be - it loves to draw attention.

Hmm, running with sore muscles - not good. Ease up a bit - your body is telling you, "I'm healing - don't keep pushing me". I just started running again after taking nearly 5 years off (was prepping for the Ottawa marathon and got sick like nobody's business and swore never to do that again) - so I know your pain. Dunno what the 'Body for Life deal is, but I am guessing that they are steering you away from processed carbs and fat, and sticking to fruit, veggies, unproc carbs and high protien content - and lots and lots of water. Rather than sticking to just running and pulls ups - vary the routine both cardio and working out - try different activities - stationary bike, elliptical, treadmill - add in some group fitness classes too - those help alot, especially with motivation - since you do build a bond with those in class (suffering as a group tends to do that ) - try a good base weight routine - visit a gym, see if you can get a orientation and chat up a personal trainer about suggestions to meet your goals. 1.5 miles in 15 minutes is a good start. Keep it up. You'll hit your goal in no time, the hardest part is making the decision to start and you already conquered that - now the next hardest part is sticking with it. I just started the running about 4 weeks ago, and while I'm not tracking distance yet - I just topped 2,000 calories expended in just cardio last night - added in yoga, pilates, and weight training and all is moving along pretty good.

Watching the g/f do push ups in a handstand pretty much made it clear what was expected - so between weights/running/yoga/pillates/aikido and kenjutsu - getting in 3 to 4 hours a day. Gonna be a while before I am doin' any pushups in a handstand though. -
January, Minnesota, 41F - can we say Sportbike.

Anyone else suffering an itch that needs some 2 wheeled scatching this winter? -
The radar detector laws are not managed by the Federal Gov't - it's written by the province through which the the highway runs. I know Ontario is a big no-no prov for use of detectors (made sure to put the V-1 in the trunk when passing through) - but British Columbia is cool with them. Where did you get nailed - was it ON or PQ? So blame the bastards of the province you got nailed in

Men want three things: 1) Food 2) Sex 3) War Everything else is a derivative of these three things. Beer from food. Sports from War. Expensive Toys from competition with other males to attract a mate -> both Sex and War. Etc Etc Etc.

Nothing in particular - I guess. But finding out that the current g/f's dual careers of massage therapist and yoga instructor does come with some...umm....benefits.

In the words of Blake Clark, "You're Right, I'm Sorry." Those are the only two phrases a man ever need learn when dealing with the female species. ... The quicker you are at using them, the quicker you can get back to watching the game. Sadly, members of the female species catch on to this tactic, at which point, buying a comfortable couch to sleep on becomes the tactic of choice.

"third-world prices" Umm - that's been changing fast - with all the Canuck and Yank retirees moving there - houses are frequently running in the 100+ K USD range. "no crime rate " If theft doesn't count - you are pretty much spot on - otherwise if it ain't bolted down, expect it to be 'liberated' quick. Enjoy it - sadly I cannot return there for a LONG time to come - got a rather bitter ex-gf down there somewhere that wouldn't mind claiming my head as a trophy.

That's what the g/f does - been cutting back on the caffienne and having the typical headaches as a result - she has some kind of technique for working some of the kyusho on the hand, large intestine #4 I think.

Due to Minnesota's attempt to take over the role of Immigration from the DoHS - we have the wonderful 'Status Check' provision. Due to expiring passport, had to rush back to Canada to get it taken care of, come back with updated work visa, present all documents to DMV in Winona, only to have them mail the copies into the central office for processing. Had a wonderful letter in the mail informing me that my license was revoked due lack of updated documentation. Finally got it all cleared up, the folk at the local DMV simply said they never saw insutrctions tell them what to do - I am guessing they never saw it because they never bothered to read it. Found out the screw up is still on my license when pulled over for 'excessive acceleration while turning' (I wasn't going to argue, I had the back end of the car hung so far out that I was fully occupying 2 lanes while executing the U-turn) and officer jokingly mentioned that I just got my license back recently and he was going to let me off the hook. Wheh! The joys of gov't beaucracy, eh? Almost makes me want to move across the river back to Wisconsin, even if they have higher income tax.

Had it last night up in the Twin Cities - not a big fish person - so it all tasted like soy sauce with a serious overload of wasabi. No so much a sushi fan as a wasabi fan.

G/F doesn't - so I was 'volunteered' to have it.

Yep - several times. Jumped with the group out near Jaco - super friendly people - they like thier beer and the only rule was that there aren't any rules. Oh yeah - Imperial - ask for it by name

Hwy 61 does beg to get run fast *heh* I've done the run from Winona to Wabasha and back a few times - there are a few sections that it is nearly impossible to set up a radar trap. When the story broke in Winona, there were a few questions going around the office why I wasn't in that day (due to business travel) and if I was the one caught

moi, miss it? would I ever do a thing like that? Got the game on, got a 22oz (or two) bottle of home brew on hand. It is a good eve.

Well, now we know, eh?

Eloy..so close, yet so far - also, camcorders and carry on luggage.
GrumpySmurf replied to GrumpySmurf's topic in The Bonfire
Last Wednesday Morning: get the call - am needed right away at the GM Desert Proving Grounds in AZ. Last Wednesday Night: helmet, camcorder, goggles, logbook, and altimeter are packed and good to go for a weekend to get a few jumps in at Eloy (I don't care how bloody hot it is). Arrived in Phx. Hopes of Take care of GM, then go jump Saturday, maybe see the Grand Canyon on Sunday are playing through mind. Last Night: Left DPG to fly back home - no visit to Eloy, no visit to Grand Canyon - aside from the hotel - all I got to see was a bunch of test track surrounded by desert - a few small lizards and the odd road runner. Aside from being put through Advanced Driver Training by GM (to be able to take the cars out on the track) - not what was hoped for. BLAH! BTW: If you plan to carry on a camcorder with a tape in it on a commercial airliner, have it taken out of the bag and placed into a seperate tray like the laptops - at least that was the rule last week - else you are in for a full bag search at security when they see the camcorder in your carry on bag. That might have changed this week for all I know. -
Yeah. But it only applies to the American girls. I guess 'American Woman stay away from me' really does apply here

One who starts by borrowing the Porsche, and within 2 weeks starts refering to it as 'her' car....
