  1. If you like Macromedia stickmen stuff, check this out (I pulled the link from a post on Porsche Petes webboard back in May): http://games.sohu.com/fightgame/fight3.swf (it will take a bit to d/l, it's near 2 Mb in size) Enjoy!
  2. Yay! Congrats and welcome to the 'family', eh?
  3. >> and if anyone has any pearls of wisdom to share with someone who is just starting out Don't eat beans before going up on a load. :)

    Sabre 2

End cell closures - it's proving to be a fact of life with this canopy (though I am only jumping it at a 1.2 - recently 'A'd ya know) - this might be affecting it, and all the other people I know who are jumping them are students with about the same or lighter loadings and several have witnessed the same thing (SDC recently switched from Safires to Sabre 2's for their student canopys).
  5. Like the pic with the company logo/name - I can just hear the 'Oh crap!' (amongst other 4 letter explitives) when that poor sop looked up. :) And the transmitter is weighed in 'grains'? Me thinks somebody was casting bullets a bit too much in thier free time - just kidding :)
  6. I thought aircraft cabins were pressurized to 7000 feet MSL? So if the airport (like SFO or YVR) is sitting at or near sea level and the plane 'depressurizes' from 7000 to 200, it could cause a CYPRES to think you are in freefall (especially a Student model)?? Just curious if the hypothesis makes sense?
  7. If there is a mid to large size paintball field near you - you might want to give them a call. Alot of rec players still use single pane goggles (non-thermals), and use anti-fog spray for them - larger fields will have a pro-shop with equipment for sale, possibly including anti-fog spray. Paintball goggle lenses are poly-carb (lexan) like skydiving goggles, and shouldn't have a problem with the spray. As for alternative solutions, I have a feeling you'll end up scratching the crap out of your goggles long before any chem destroys them - I'd be more worried about the chem getting into my eyes - especially in freefall - the super diluted no-tears shampoo sounds like it might be worth a shot *shrug*.
  8. A certain mid-West DZ has a couple of Sabre 2 190's for thier student program, I guess to start replacing the safires. They are very slightly ellipticle, and man, let me tell you - when you pop the brakes - you feel the speed difference between them and saf's - haven't seen the spec on the aspect ratio yet, so my opinion is rather subjective. I ended up with a bad spot on Sunday (WAY out there), with no winds and ended up putting down in a soybean field, PLF'd the landing and ended up cutting a good 20 to 25 foot path through the field, on my back - the packer ended up picking soy plants out of the rig for a good 5 minutes :) I'd say for the upper end novice, it is a fun canopy to play with. Can't wait till they pick up a few 170's.
  9. ..I'd be gunning for the Gold. :) Knocked off SDC's AFP 16 and 17 Sunday - both were Sitflying exercises - well attempted Sitfly exercises - everytime I got upright, I was auditioning as a special effect for Twister 2. The video from the instructors perspective was hilarious - me cursing and laughing at the same time. All I could think last night in bed was, "I don't wanna go to work! I wanna play!". Gawd, this sport is a riot :)
  10. Wow, that's like the second Bonehead that got cracked on an AFP'r by bitch-slapping risers at SDC in like 2 weeks (and here I just bought one myself)!! (Opps, just looked at the date of your post - you were the original person that happened to.) The recommendation to me was to look over your left shoulder during deployment to avoid the ditter getting ripped off. So if you grad'ng, you buyin' beer? I think it's trend that should be started, buy a two-four after AFP 18 - drinking it is optional (leave that to us experts *heh*). :)

    SAD news

My feelings exactly - the higher the number of jumps at a given location, the greater the chance that an 'incident' as dreadful as this is going to occur at that location. As for SDC as a DZ, I have yet to see a training program in the US or Canada (AFF/PFF, IAD or S/L) that even comes within a fraction of the detail given in their AFP program - not to mention the calibre of top-notch skydivers they draw worldwide. Hopefully an investigation can shed some light on the cause and help prevent it needlessly happening to someone else. The worst any one of us could do is to think, 'That couldn't happen to me.'.
