  1. ..and it might not have any impact your ability to function as a normal human being too.
  2. Yay! Re-currented. And owe way too much beer - first time at new DZ here in Vancouver. - first time under something called a Fury ("come on, I'm pulling the toggle, can you turn a little faster, plz?"
  3. My bad, wrong forum - DOH! Any Mod wanna bump it to the Bonfire? Plz?

  5. http://www.gameinformer.com/News/Story/200606/N06.0621.1224.20218.htm "Game Informer’s July issue has the World Exclusive first look at EA Black Box’s Need For Speed Carbon, and we’re teasing this month’s Game Informer Unlimited a day early with a little treat. Game Informer Online is proud to debut the first trailer for Need For Speed Carbon. This 60 second trailer will give you a quick taste of the highly anticipated canyon duels you’ll race in Carbon when it screeches to consoles this November. Need For Speed Carbon is not the sequel to Most Wanted 2, and EA Black Box is steering the franchise in a fresh new direction. The game has a team focus, and this time racers will have AI teammates that have RPG-light upgradable skill sets. Members helping you blaze across the finish line include a blocker, pathfinder, drafter, fabricators, mechanics, and fixer. Speedsters will be able to choose from more than 50 cars from three class styles including muscle cars, exotics, and tuners. Players who like to tweak their rides will love the new auto sculpting feature which allows you to modify a number of different auto parts much like how you would create a player in Tiger Woods with game face. One of the parts of the game that we’re looking forward to the most are the canyon duels against the boss characters. In these white knuckle races you’ll be screaming down winding canyon roads, all the while trailing your opponent as close as possible. Take a turn too wide and you’ll most likely take a leap off a cliff that even Greg Louganis would shy away from. Dying for more on Need For Speed Carbon? The July issue has just hit newsstands, Game Informer Unlimited goes live on Thursday, and subscribers will get even more exclusive content for all the games featured in this month’s magazine. Not only that, but Game Informer Online will get to take a spin with Carbon in mid-July for our first hands-on preview of the game! -Billy Berghammer" Flame away
  6. $300/month for a motorcycle. Welcome to BC - home of the one of the highest property crime rates and worst drivers in North America.
  7. Disturbing would be an understatement - there are just somethings people really shouldn't have to witness. Sadly, I suspect that image isn't going to leave you or his son anytime soon. "flying around a curve in the oncoming traffic....probably doing 70-80 mph (without a helmet) in a residential area. " It's sad the preventable chain of bad decisions that leads to these sorts things.
  8. Pre-second Mirage container. After shopping around, and getting quotes just dropped a small fortune on a Mirage G4 - they had one in stock, no wait. Guess my beer will have to be wasted on the locals here in Vancouver when I wander my way out to a DZ
  9. Spinning is part of the learning game ... Some of us even turned it into an artform during our student progression. Talk your PFF-I about suggestions on how to correct it - they are the best source to spot in the air what you are doing ever so slightly incorrect and will help correct it. One suggestion I have seen to help with leg awareness was to have students not wear socks on thier jumps (but wear footwear, of course), so that they can feel the relative wind across thier ankles. Any suggestion you take from here, discuss with your PFF-I before trying it in the air. Results that may work for one, might be less than desireable for another. BTW - how are the lads at Arnprior doing these days? Haven't had a chance to go back there since I first started there, 7 tears ago. Hope they are all well.
  10. Bill Booth - without the 3-ring release, my jump that resulted in a chop from a spun up main in '02 would likely have been my last.
  11. Downwind - been there, did that PLF'd and let the good ol' rig take the abuse as I slid across the ground. The experienced jumper that landed right after me ran over to check on me and qualified it with, "I swore you were going to need an ambulance from the speed you were going." Got a good talking to from the DZO, who even took the time to walk out of the hanger and meet me on the way back across the field. While he did, for a brief second, listen to my arguement that a downwinder was better than a really low turn, he did ask, "Why did you get into a situation where your two only choices were a low turn and a downwind landing?". The lesson, stay ahead of the jump to the point that you don't get into a situation where you limit your options to a low turn vs. a down-winder. The point was well taken.
  12. http://www.dailykos.com/story/2006/5/29/203330/248 But they say you can play on the side of the A/C - so I guess it's balanced.
  13. Silly factoid: Cruising at 55 mph down the highway will burn just as much gas as sitting at idle and having the A/C clutch engaged at a 100% duty cycle (i.e. city driving in high temp, high humidity). Some may think the A/C burns a tonne of gas, when in fact alot of cars are at thier most efficient fuel wise vs increasing speed cruising at 55 mph. As you start going above 55, your efficiency drops, quickly. Alot of the time, you don't have direct control over the A/C anyways, even if the LED is off on the HVAC ECU. If the HVAC is in the Defrost position, it will frequently force the A/C compressor clutch to engage, to get the humidity out of the air and prevent the windshield from fogging up. One thing to try to turn the A/C on and off while at a stop on a rather hot and humid day - watch your tach when you do. Try doing so on a not so hot and humid day and watch the tach. Side note: saw an interesting fact on the back of BC Transit Bus today - 10 seconds of idling burns more gas than turning your car off and on.
  14. Hmmm...an example of "hold my beer and watch this" ... with a bike. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6698310152185556269&q=motorcycle
  15. Hmm, I didn't realize the gov't censors blacked out my qualifier, "- in the end, it all depends on the individual, and thier flying ability. " for you. Sneaky gov't censors, I tell you!
  16. The question is - which group are the former, which group are the latter? If the the latter are your instructors who are hyperventilating, and the former, the local 100 jump wonder swoop gods saying 'go for it' - you may wish to continue hunting. If vice versa, the S2 might just be for you. You haven't mentioned what you have been jumping, both model and sizewise, and how the landings have been going - so the answer - yeah, a S2 170 would be perfect, or no, a S2 170 would not be the best canopy for you, could result and be totally inaccurate. Also, what kind of canopy coaching program does your DZ offer? This will affect a recommendation. If all they have had you on have been Mantas, and don't offer canopy flying classes/coaching - find somewhere that does. It will pay huge dividends in the long run - regardless of what you decide to buy. Drop PD a line as well, let them know what you have been jumping, how the landings have been going, and maybe they will recommend a S2 to demo, or maybe there is another canopy in thier lineup that is better suited to you - or maybe the S2 is just perfect. Clear as mud, eh? BTW - I've jumped one for about 70% of my limited jumping career and loved it. But I have seen people take the S2 and slam themselves into the ground with enough force to make you amazed that they survived, I've seen others do perfect tip toe landings with it - in the end, it all depends on the individual, and thier flying ability. Good luck in the hunt!
  17. ..while out with the lads yestereve to celebrate meeting our last milestone, we got one of them so drunk on shots (by 7PM) - he grabbed the garbage can on the bar patio, puked in it and promptly turned around and said, "I'm ready for more." That's hardcore
  18. Yeah, it sucks to have a more 'vigorous' openning and see one of my lenses smooshed to the inside of my goggles. Makes landings interesting -> since I'm a -6.5 and -7.5. Then the doc told me I've got this karetokonus-type thingy (and here I thought my eyesight was getting better), so no more soft lenses - the hard buggers are pricey - so no more sunglasses jumping
  19. Grapple-pack (TM) Mount it, and fight it into submission. In otherwords, like the lads said, practice, practice, practice.
  20. 10 years difference and you void the warranty on them + or - 6 years here
  21. Like the worlds largest proponent of 'situational ethics' is gonna keep his mouth shut - not likely Well, no point in thinking what might happen - just make it happen - Hell is simply a life lived in regret, eh?
  22. Save time, and cut to the chase - hump him Life's too short to waste on wondering what might happen - just 'do it'.
  23. 1st attempted pull over - got away. I had just got my license (and *that* car) and doing 90 in a 65, I knew I was in big trouble. Highway offramps right after the crest of a hill can be your friend. - 4 years go by - 1st successful pullover - got a verbal for reckless/careless driving. He came back after running my license laughing and said, "I see you just got your license back a short while ago." Long story behind that... - 4 months go by - 2nd successful pullover - got a verbal for speeding - 80 in a 65. When asked 'do you have any reason for going that fast?' - answered with 'no, sir'. Honesty is definitly the best policy. - 6 months go by - 3rd successful pullover - got a verbal for a headlight out. G/f was drunk and I was driving her and her car home - guessed it to be a typical OWI check. Sounds like now that the Vancouver City Police are doing random pull overs of motorcyclists for spot checks of license endorsements and insurance. So I'm sure I rack up a few more pull overs before the months end.
