My Dad had false teeth on his lower jaw because a Chinese butt stroked him in the mouth when he stepped into my dad's fox hole, as they over ran his company's position. He nearly cut the guy in two with his K-Bar from his ankle to his throat. We still have the knife. I did not know about that incident until I was in my 20's after I got out of the service.

Those guys said nearly nothing of what they did and barely anything to other veterans. We went to to 101st ABN reunion back in the 1970's We were invited by Tom McCarter who was a friend of my Dad's. Tom was the guy who was portrayed in the movie "The Longest Day" he was the kid who landed in the garden and knifed the (general?) who had his boots on wrong. When we got there to Cantigny there was a really cool museum to honor the 1st Division as this was the former home of Col. Robert McCormick. The picnic was really nice but as they did roll call they finished and introduced a few guests. Two very attractive ladies were introduced as being former Dutch Resistance operatives who lured quite a few Nazi's to their death by knife or pistol. Then Tom introduced my dad and told them what unit he was in during the Korean War. The entire crowd stood up and saluted him and due to the fact i was just a young kid I had no idea why and it made me wonder why these men starting getting teary eyed. I know now that it was because my dad was one of the few left of the 8th Cavalry Regiment and that over 4000 men died from the start of the Korean conflict. My Dad was one of the last who lived past November 6th.

You must be over 6' tall

Yes, he was in the platoon that brought up the rear as they escaped to friendly lines by November 6. His platoon consisted of him and two other guys plus his Lieutenant. He fought his way out with an entrenching tool after his ammo ran out. Presidential Unit Citation, 2 Silver Stars,Distinguished Service Cross, 3 Bronze with V Device, Korean War ribbon, 2 Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal and a couple more. That was after he served on a destroyer in the battle of Leyte gulf in WWII. He got screwed by being drafted after being in WWII and seeing heavy action on the seas, and later in the PI after his ship was gone. One look at him was all it took for people know he had been through hell. When he died at 67 yrs old he still had shrapnel in him.

I have been researching what happened to my father in Korea, he never sopke much about it until after I served in the military. Even then he did not say much. Here is something you may be interested in reading about. http://www.first-team.us/journals/8th_rgmt/3d_unsan.html He arrived 03/1951 and was finally withdrawn to Japan on 12/29/51 Pay attention to the date 01 November, that is actually November of 1951 see the fourth paragraph on page one and the details that follow to the end. Also see this; http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=940DE1D7153DF931A25756C0A96E948260&sec=&spon=&pagewanted=all No wonder I have very little respect for smarmy English academic types that seem to think they are above the rest of us. They decide for themselves what the rest of us should think and would sink so low as to become spies. Yet they are arrogant enough to write about it as if they are some sort of patriot.

For me when it came to marksmanship and the ability to use it to survive it was my Father, Chuck Mawhinney, Carlos Hathcock, Maj. John Plaster, and Lyudmila Pavlichenko. They did what they had to do with the tools they were given. All of them were naturals in that they did not merely become snipers or riflemen, they were born one.

Everyone could benefit from reading Jack O Conners stories. He knew what to do, when to do it and why. Several of my friends hunting cabins have old magazines and book with articles or stories by him. The fact he used a .270win to take so many different types of animals is a testament to his knowledge of shooting accuracy, shot placement, anatomy, bullet choice, ranging, stalking and sheer balls. Sniping is an art that is very detailed and very important for placing first round cold bore shots on target. IMHO the best snipers in the world are also natural riflemen in that when conditions or targets present themselves they are able to make off hand shots on fast moving or fleeting targets with extreme accuracy. I am not a sniper by any means, however I can shoot long range and still achieve "snap shots" where I can bring a rifle up to my shoulder, sight in, establish lead and get a kill shot in less than one second on a fast moving target that may be as far away as a few hundred yards. There are people on this website that can attest to this. A few years back I missed a deer that was standing still at no more than 35 yards and quartering away. I was hunting with a shotgun that had been sighted in by a friend as I did not get enough opportunity to zero it myself. When I missed my hunting partner of many years said, "You would have hit him if you gave him a chance to run at full speed!"

Agreed on sight radius and not cutting off the front sight if at all possible. If I use a Leupold on a rifle with really good rings, I would have to really damage the rifle in order to damage the scope. I have seen them dropped, abused, and dented and they still worked. My FAL has a very long portion of bbl beyond the FSB so if I do shorten it it still has quite a bit of bbl left after the FSB. Yes variables matter and all of it has to be taken into account before determining any changes to be made.

BTW put a Matchking and a Scenar next to each other. The Matchking looks like a damned football. They are not as sleek as people seem to think they are. Short ogives and a short BT do not help the BC at all.
-
I misstated my intention sorry the pain meds are kicking my ass. Less clicks of adjustment. I know that you know how to shoot. But the BC is a larger factor in that it will overcome the slight loss of velocity from the chop of a bbl. Stiffer is better and if the ammo was the same in both rifle and burned well in the shorter you will have a better shooting rifle with the shorter bbl. 18" is what it takes to burn most powders. After that there is not much gained. I only have one rifle that has a 21" bbl and that needs chopping when I get around to it. The FAL is not hard to work on but someone else has my tools for working on that. My FAL will have an 18" bbl. The Grendel I have is 19.5" but that was all there was at the time of purchase. When I got mine it was either 19.5" or 24" a 14.5' Grendel works great out to 600yds and as much as 800yds, it has been proved.

Get a Savage in 7-08 or .260 do not buy long action Select the right bullet and use a Badger scope mount. Spend your money on a scope. Use a one hand adjustable sling get the bbl threaded and PM me for a Brake.
-
Old School habits are hard to overcome and even harder for most to realize that things are not as they seemed. A Grendel with a MV of 2450 uses less clicks of adjustment to get to 1000yds than a 175grain HPBT Matchking from a .308. People just cannot belive it when they see it. BC is a slippery idea to get hold of. 155 Scenars in .308 are better at 1000 than are the heavier VLDs
-
All you need is an 18-20" bbl anymore is a waste.

6.5Grendel has taken an Elk @ 405yds with one shot, the Elk was a 5x5 and quite large. It did not even get one step before it curled up and dropped. 6.5 Swede has taken many elk just like .270win. bullet selection and shot placement trumps power. If you cannot be as accurate with a larger caliber then there is no advantage to be had.

Get a Savage 110, 112 etc. Best rifle for the money

Somehow I lost the fear of dying a while back. We now return you to the regularly scheduled sniveling festival...

It was a good story, filmed for the right reason and it was done very well. It makes me hate the protesters at the funerals of servicemen that much more. I enjoyed the movie and it got my wife kind of teary eyed. She sees people die every week.

The women may face worse consequences than the perp.

That's too easy, then they cannot play the poor "victim". I am not saying that is what happened (don't know and don't care) but there are folks who provoke as if there can be no possible repercussions.

Convene a DZ court. Don't you guys have a jurist and lawyers? We do... Plus we also have the sheriff of bagland as well as the executionors corrections officials. Most people would wish they had never fucked up in the first place. Strange how SDC really doesn't have these kind of troubles. (usually)

My nephew has received a XBox for Christmas and wants to do online gaming. He has had no luck with getting it online. I went over and reviewed all the Wifi variables on the router, even strated over from scratch and still no luck. I tried to just use a Cat-5 to connect it, still no joy. I even went so far as to reduce it to WEP, no joy. Please advise, I already used the port forwarding (forget which ports this minute) but still no luck. My laptop will connect to the Router, I can see the SSID easily. Anyone has some good info on this?

I love these old photos. Great grandma is a good-looking woman. But it looks like she married Pancho Villa! That's the Priest trying to look like a bad boy! Yeah my great Nana was one hot mama, my cousin Shelly looks just like her. Yes she is single again, but has high standards as her ex is mental case.(rich but mental)

Here is a pic of my maternal Great Grandfather when he was at seminary school. Also a pic of my great Grandfather and great Grandmother when they came to this country. My Dad's side came here with Von Steuben to fight in the American Revolution.
