Due to the currenly depressed South African economic situation a few enterprising SA skydivers have come up with a viable alternative to the Cypres and FXC. It's cheap and nasty but it works most of the time. I wish the real world would just stop hassling me~~~matchbox20

For those who are interested. Icarus (Manny's) telephone number is as follows +27 11 452 8858. Remember South Africa is 2 hours ahead of GMT. Call between approx 07:00 GMT to 15:00 GMT to get him during working hours. There is no daylight saving to concern yourself with. By the way, what is it with the Hornet? Ask him about the Heatwave I wish the real world would just stop hassling me~~~matchbox20

Hi there guys. For those of you wanting to know about the PC, it is fine. When cocked the kill line is a little longer than the tapes. All other aspects conform to Bills parameters. The initial deployment is fine from pitch till the canopy comes out of the D bag. It is then when the trouble starts. The canopy partially inflates and then kind of 'pauses for thought'. No twisting or spinning, all nice and on heading the problim is that it is just so damn s l o w. I wish the real world would just stop hassling me~~~matchbox20

Hi Storm For your wingloading. Take your weight in kilograms. Add 10 to 12 kilos for your gear and multiply the whole lot by 2,2 to give your weight out of the door in pounds. Divide the weight in pounds by your canopy size in square feet, in this case 170. That will give you your wingloading in pounds per square foot. As for the ZP. Pucker up they open nice and positive. I have always pro-packed mine, just push the nose in nice and deep to start with and roll the tail. It was when I did not do this that it spanked me. Oh and try not to dump in the middle of a track I wish the real world would just stop hassling me~~~matchbox20

It could be, mine knocked the wind out of me on occasion when it was very new. They have a reputation for being rather strict disciplinarians, hence the pocket slider as standard. How many jumps does he have on it? I wish the real world would just stop hassling me~~~matchbox20

I have a 'problem' which has been puzzling me and maybe somebody here can help out. I jump a 170 canopy, a South African brand called a ZP made by Chute Shop. It has approximately 180 jumps on it of which I have put on about 160. I bought it when it had 15 jumps or so on it. I load it at 1,1 to 1. The problem is this. When I originally bought the canopy it used to tend toward hard openings. After experimenting with the pack job I found a method that worked well and have not deviated from it since. However the canopy has recently started to snivel and it is getting worse. This weekend I cut the pocket off my slider after having one opening snivel for over 1000ft and another where the slider stayed up the lines to the start of the cascades, keeping the 4 outer cells collapsed, until it was 'pumped' down using the brakes. The openings are now back to 'normal'. What is bothering me is that this seems to be a progressive problem and there is no guarantee that it will not re-occur even with the pocketless slider. One of our local riggers checked the canopy out and confirms that everything appears to be in order. His only worry was that the slider appeared to be a little large but could not explain the progression from hard to soft openings. Short of sending the canopy back to the manufacturers are their any checks I can do with respect to slider size, trim, etc? I wish the real world would just stop hassling me~~~matchbox20

Mmm interesting one. Authority and respect are earned. They do not automatically come with the position or with the responsibilty. I do not see the uncertainty of your seniority as being an issue. The military will say that you should respect the rank if you cannot respect the person. That is not an option which is open to you. The key is to get the man to respect you. That will not happen by doing his work, it happens by getting him to do his. Where is he weak? Can you put systems in place to accomodate those weaknesses. Where is he strong? Use him there. Publicly praise a job well done. Chastise him in private. Walk into work with a grin. Project energy and go, go, go. All these things will benefit a reluctant staff. Set realistic goals, things which are not easily achievable but achievable non the less, measure performance consistantly. Draw the line in the sand clearly and never move it. He steps over and things go bad for him. He stays behind and things go good. If none of this works and he is just useless and from what you are saying you have no official authority over him then the paper trail is also not an option. Get in his face and stay there. Day in and day out. Find that weakness and exploit it. This may sound horrible but we are talking about the job that earns the money that pays the jump tickets. It is not your fault that he is an asshole, he has to take that up with his parents or his therapist. Either way it is not your problem. It is all mind games in the end, strongest mind wins the prize. He will leave eventually, or you will. I wish the real world would just stop hassling me~~~matchbox20
