Back after a week away and catching up... slowly. Jo: My reaction to this is: put you through what, exactly? Do you mean calling you out on inconsistencies and "evidence" that isn't there or doesn't add up? Yes, those kind of things probably don't go down too well with the FBI, for obvious reasons. Now, unless I missed this, can I just confirm that while you keep on saying that the FBI removed the registration page, you did not actually get confirmation from the FBI that they did? So we still only have the clerk's word for this (and here I agree 100% with what 377 et al were saying...) Ckret has posted that he cannot say without doubt what happened but that he cannot find any records relating to this in the files. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
-
As soon as the Clerk contacted me I called the FBI - it was Agent Mueller. I asked at that time about the Hotel registration card. His only and immediate response was "It would have been checked out and then destroyed". He did not say returned, but someone else later told me that it would have been returned to the hotel. Jo, I'm still not seeing confirmation. "It would have been..." implies that IF it happened that would have been the procedure - not confirmation. Did the FBI actually confirm to your for a fact that they took the registration book, or card, or whatever, and then destroyed it, or do you still only have this desk clerk's word for it? I've just seen a bit of a Discovery program on secrets of UFOs in Soviet-era Russia. It's amazing what some people claim is true, even claiming so from their own experience. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
-
Jo, do you actually have any proof that this whole event happened? Or do you only have the desk clerk who told you this? Ckret, is it normal that the the FBI would take evidence and never contact the people again - either to confirm they were keeping it as evidence or (as we have been told here before) to return it if it happens to have no evidentiary value? And again Jo....as for your lambasting Ckret because the FBI (even before he was on this case) didn't follow up x y or z contact that you showered them with ...well.............. clearly the FBI didn't think they were worth following up. You could have got a PI to go after them, you know. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Agreed. Which is why I still think the most likely suspect for Cooper is someone who saw action in a war (and the most likely to survive the jump would be if that active service was in the paratroopers). Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
-
Jo, I disagree. What you are describing is someone who is probably a deeply sad/depressed person, but most certainly a very angry person, who does not know healthy ways of letting that anger out (and so lets it out in ways that might hurt others and, ultimately, himself - not directly but because of the consequences of being caught). It is not someone who is "a nut". edited to add: useful reference on anger http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anger_management Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Many economists at the time thought it was flawed too! But the parallels to now are exactly why it is a topic again in some circles. People think price controls are an answer, but they just create a whole new set of problems and most importantly result in misallocation of resources, black markets etc. Just because one guy had a grudge doesn't mean others thought along the same lines. I don't dismiss the notion Cooper was a nutcase either; we just don't know. By the way have you checked this out (I have posted an extract from this link before, can't remember if I posted the link itself): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1971 Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Snow, all your "was that his grudge"... takes as an a priori assumption that Cooper HAD a grudge. That is still theory and not proven - or not proven as motive for the hijacking anyway - I still fail to see how hijacking a private airline insured by a private insurer does anything about a grudge against the government. Secondly, I am intrigued by your comment on the cost of the wage/price policy - can you tell me if that is in nominal or inflation adjusted dollars, as a % of GDP, or what? The policy was deeply flawed and though unions may have opposed it for "selfish" reasons they were right that it was wrong. Some of the effects of that policy are still used as examples of why such policies are a very bad idea. But I digress... Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Can I ask - out of simple curiosity - if you are not writing a book or having one written, where would these profits come from? Movie rights? Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

So, "i know something but you don't and you'll have to wait before i take it public" - sounds a lot like the way Galen Cook operates Talking of whom - has there been any update on the book release, does anyone know? Of course, Ckret thinks his suspect is wrong too. If Ckret thinks so, I accept that the conclusion has been drawn objectively and am more inclined to believe Cook has not got the right guy. Jo, you say you don't need a PI, but you keep on nagging the FBI to follow X, Y and Z alley. The FBI is not going to do it for reasons that are very clear to most of us. So, get a PI. You also claim that you have shown enough evidence that Duane had enough knowledge to plan and execute this jump. I must have missed this. Could you please, succintly, summarize this evidence? I believe you do have piles of evidence to show that Duane was a crook, that he met some interesting people in prison and out of it, and maybe was even in some interesting places at interesting times. However, I have still seen practically zero that links any of this back to DB Cooper. We have a desk clerk in a hotel who thinks Duane was in Portland the night before (said desk clerk now in China and despite the global communications ability seemingly can't make a public statement or statement to FBI on this) - and that's it, unless I am mistaken? Jo, i don't think you answered 377 when he asked you a similar question, but please explain to us WHY the FBI and media want to continue the myth and stalemate the investigation? By the way,why don't you take up some of those good offers? Then you could afford a PI to look into all those things you keep demanding the FBI do but must know, as we do, that there is no apparent rational reason for them to waste time, money and manpower on. edited to add: by the way, Ckret DID indeed post publicly the quote that Georger used, it's here: (took a 2-second search to find) http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3102353;search_string=Ceiling%20of%205%2C000%20feet;#3102353 so maybe you can scratch that one off your list of conspiracy theories - yet another one easily debunked here. Just don't be surprised when you find bruises on your left elbow Hey - as has been said before, student gear fits most jumpers, but there are plenty of small girls who have survived oversized student gear, oversized rental gear, and more bruises than you could ever imagine (if i didn't have bruising after a weekend then i wasn't jumping). Someone mentioned over-analyzing, and that can happen - wanting to figure out what you did wrong is fine but don't try to analyze it to death. That also tends to come with "performance anxiety" mode and you end up doing yourself in because so much of this is mental and not just physical... i did that for a while on coach FS jumps and just didn't progress, got frustrated etc... then i timed out and did some solos to remind me it was meant to be fun and managed to relax a bit. I know it's easier said than done at the start, but it does come, and it will probably surprise you how soon it happens! Good luck! Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Jimmy Page is black?! Gee, that's news... can someone please post a pic of Jimmy - with appropriate glasses - so we can compare to the DBCooper identikit? Don't let year of birth fool you, we all know how these rockers easily look 10-20 years older than they really are due to their lifestyle. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Jimmy Page? No, I don't believe it. After all he is still (officially) alive, if he really was a co-conspirator his death would have been faked, along with all the others. Unless you believe that because Page is British the FBI wouldn't've bothered to include him in the (sshhhhh) cover-up? If someone was standing on the aft stairs... that would be their final words to a flight attendant. OK, OK, you've convinced me.. the evidence is overwhelming. But there's another twist to this, right - if you've seen The Song Remains the Same, you'll know there was some money stolen in NY as well. IIRC it was a little less than (ta daaaaa) $200K... spot a pattern here? Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

I'm only answering because I am directly addressed in the subject line. Jo, you know full well that people have different perceptions of things (one man's meat is another's poison, one man's problem is another's challenge, etc etc). In this case I think what you call "blinders" would be called, by many others, something more like rational thinking, or critical thinking. When you manage to produce one, just ONE, piece of actual evidence, you will find many more people are prepared to listen (including, I have no doubt, Larry Carr). We keep on asking you and you keep on responding with increasingly bizarre statements, and demands that the FBI follow up every wild goose chase angle you manage to find (that is, when you are not lambasting them with claims of cover-ups, incompetence and so on when they don't jump to your every whim). Until we get some evidence, if all you have to offer continues to be wild accusations and outlandish conspiracy theories, you really shouldn't be surprised that most people discount what you say. This is not "blinders". This is being rational. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Duane was part of the "JFK deal". JFK was seeing Marilyn Monroe. Joe DiMaggio, a professional baseball player, was married to Marilyn. An enraged, jealous husband... A pitchers mound is sometimes referred to as "a grassy knoll". How many hints do people need? The truth has been yelling at us. However, it was a time of "healing". The Bay of Pigs fiasco. The beginnings of the VN war. Joe DiMaggio was an American icon and the country needed its heroes. The coverup was for the good of the country. I'll bet that there are strong links between Duane and baseball that are being suppressed. Did he watch baseball? Are there photos of him playing baseball? Did the FBI ever possess pictures of Duane wearing a baseball hat? Did he sometimes run or walk during the daytime? Yes, Duane may have provided the rifle used by Joe on the grassy knoll. There... I said it. You left out the bit where every new recruit into the FBI has to take a blood oath to keep every previous conspiracy covered up into eternity as well... yeah... which is why there was a big debate about "no accent" which (IIRC) most seemed to accept as meaning "no identifiable regional accent" (i.e. not no "foreign" accent). Prove it! Prove your distinction. Attitude is not Proof. Find us one thing anyone on the planet has ever said or discovered or published as a study in the entire history of the Universe that proves your assertion. Hey, calm down I didn't "assert" anything... I was pointing out a previous discussion had come to a different conclusion. You have come to a different one, and that's cool, and in the absence of a recording of his voice we have no way of knowing which is right...like so much else in this case. Now go take 10 deep breaths, or something Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

----------------------------------------------------- REPLY> But I do make that association, but Im Midwestern since birth. For Cooper it expresses his frustration/anxiety. It's clear from the context of "get this plane on the road" (again, it's in the transcript) that he meant he wanted things to move faster. But the midwest surely does not have a monopoly on the phrase... "get this show on the road" (assuming that's where it's from and makes sense to me it does) has long been used here, halfway around the world from there. As I understand, the phrase originates from travelling circuses/carnivals (which by definition went to lots of places ) Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

midwestern accent? i thought the eye (ear)witness descriptions were all "no accent".. we had a debate about what "no accent" means some time ago... btw.. please don't make me think of you as a cow, which is the first thing that comes to (my) mind when someone says they are ruminating yes I know you meant the other meaning, but still... Georger, I also think the balance of probabilities is weighted far against Mayfield... but it presented a good example of how ridiculous it is to ask to prove someone was "not" Cooper. Particularly when (it appears) there are certain "myths" about his "alibi" Of course - Mayfield is also a prime example of how things can be twisted to present what seems to be a very good case for arguing that someone was Cooper. (although i'm not sure about your "own back yard" comments considering some of the other things he did in his own backyard...) btw, Mayfield and H knew each other before the Cooper incident (which has led to some cute conspiracy theories). My best suspects right now remain people we don't know yet; either an ex-paratrooper that survived quietly, or a poor sod who like that WW2 airman is still hanging from a tree (or at the bottom of a river/lake) somewhere. I got a very guarded at best, almost hostile at worst, response from BASE jumpers when I asked about a Greenpeace BASE jump I saw footage of (you think skydivers are tight... we ain't got nothing on the BASE community**)... and then ... I got a PM from XXXXX XXXXX, who did the jump, and happily told me all about it
