I've just figured out why this bothered me. We are talking about something that would be, or at least presented as, non-fiction. Since when does this type of book lend itself to gratuitous bad language? I mean, we are talking DB Cooper and not "snakes on a plane", right? I haven't read any of the other DB Cooper books, were those full of filthy words? Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Welcome Rob! Come down to Cape Town sometime, we may not have a turbine but we have the best views from altitude

No, you need some context My post wasn't in response to you, it was in response to Snow suggesting Sluggo was going all secretive... Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

yes, presumably the deathbed confession plus other stuff (including Jo's continued haranguing). then they investigated. then they didn't find anything to back up the theory that it was duane. just like they have investigated many other suspects and come up with nothing. ... There was no reason for the FBI to necessarily publicize every area they searched or every little thing they did, I don't see a that an unpublicized search necessarily means it was "secret". Like that thing about a shoe being found that someone mentioned a while ago. Maybe all it means (unpublicized) is that they didn't find anything...? Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

and guys just calm down a bit please - let's not get more bannings here Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

On the first paragraph above - maybe, but what is it? we have gone from smokejumpers to illegal dope rings, with bits of CIA conspiracies in MLK and Bay of Pigs chucked in, some Masonic flavor, FBI cover-ups and God only knows what else, I can't remember all the various cards that went into building the tower. The "story" might make for a really fun novel, but I'm not sure what else. On the last sentence I quoted above - Sluggo, that's just the problem. We have had a few years of wild theorising and so far we haven't seen anything that can actually be validated. It is apparently, according to Jo, all up to the FBI to follow up all these wild goose chases. And when they have done some of it and can't validate it, Jo accuses them of cover-up or discrediting her. I think she does a pretty good job of discrediting herself, actually. But kudos to you for giving her a chance. I already raised the possibility that Duane's "revelation" and his trip with Jo, apparnet notation in the book etc may have stemmed from the fact that he was looking for Cooper long before we all were. See this is what gets my goat - someone responds to something like this and it gets validated. Jo has NO PROOF Cooper did anything other than hijack an aeroplane. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Hear hear! And a reminder: The psychiatrist and philosopher Karl Jaspers was the first to define the three main criteria for a belief to be considered delusional in his book General Psychopathology. These criteria are: - certainty (held with absolute conviction) - incorrigibility (not changeable by compelling counterargument or proof to the contrary) - impossibility or falsity of content (implausible, bizarre or patently untrue) These criteria still continue in modern psychiatric diagnosis. Delusional disorder is a psychiatric diagnosis denoting a psychotic mental illness that involves holding one or more non-bizarre delusions in the absence of any other significant psychopathology (signs or symptoms of mental illness). In particular, a person with delusional disorder has never met any other criteria for schizophrenia and does not have any marked hallucinations. A person with delusional disorder can be quite functional and does not tend to show any odd or bizarre behavior aside from these delusions. Indicators of a delusion: (Munro, 1999) The patient expresses an idea or belief with unusual persistence or force. That idea appears to exert an undue influence on his or her life, and the way of life is often altered to an inexplicable extent. Despite his/her profound conviction, there is often a quality of secretiveness or suspicion when the patient is questioned about it. The individual tends to be humorless and oversensitive, especially about the belief. There is a quality of centrality: no matter how unlikely it is that these strange things are happening to him, the patient accepts them relatively unquestioningly. An attempt to contradict the belief is likely to arouse an inappropriately strong emotional reaction, often with irritability and hostility. The belief is, at the least, unlikely. The patient is emotionally over-invested in the idea and it overwhelms other elements of his psyche. Features: (Munro, 1999) It is a primary disorder. It is a stable disorder characterized by the presence of delusions to which the patient clings with extraordinary tenacity. The illness is chronic and frequently lifelong. The delusions are logically constructed and internally consistent. The delusions do not interfere with general logical reasoning (although within the delusional system the logic is perverted) and there is usually no general disturbance of behavior. If disturbed behavior does occur, it is directly related to the delusional beliefs. The individual experiences a heightened sense of self-reference. Events which, to others, are nonsignificant are of enormous significance to him or her, and the atmosphere surrounding the delusions is highly charged. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

"this week's"? That was in the first series. And Scofield has already figured out Westmoreland was Cooper before he gets sent to Fox River - getting his hands on the Cooper loot is his plan. They eventually find it has had a housing development built over it but Scofield being Scofield, they still get it Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Discounted is (I think) the reason he bought it. He had a cutaway on one of our training jumps at Nationals last year... and we ALL suffered (such as getting "pink" inserted into our team name on the PA announcements, etc ) Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

377 is right. I've never seen my reserve. I presume it's white, but it may be bright pink, like one of my ex-teammate's. I trust my rigger. (It's a small community here, he has to be trustworthy!) Hey -- I just realised. Cossey's first name was Earl. My rigger also has a 4-letter 1st name starting with E. It even has an r in it too. Is there a link? And that is different from this forum how...? should probably add.......: (no intention to offend any of my esteemed fellow forum members ) Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Orange's Law (or, to be technically correct, theorem): A million monkeys hammering a million typewriters for a million years will eventually come up with a credible suspect for the DB Cooper case. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

They used AADs for drug drops?!.. I never knew that!! I remember reading about a skydiving fatality, some guy dressed in black who jumped at night, found (IIRC) the next day with drugs on him. For some reason I think I read this on NickDG's BASE list, but that doesn't make sense (and if it was it doesn't appear to be there anymore)? Nick, are you still out there...? I don't know any plane mechanics actually, but i know a number of pilots who are not associated with jumping. One of them was looking into flying for a DZ to get his hours up, but changed his mind after I sent him the local guidelines for jump pilots..! And we have had pilots, well experienced in other flying, quit the DZ very soon because they can't take the stress of flying jumpers (stalls, etc). Off the topic, sure, but no more off the topic than drug drops (or the Bay of Pigs or MLK or Order of the Amaranth and what happened to smoke jumpers) I am sure. (For some reason I feel an urge to go watch Cutaway ...) Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Orange Stated: For the love of GOD: I have told you before - that Carr made that STATEMENT BEFORE the night clerk went into the FBIi office with a signed statement. Carr also stated they were looking for Collins on a registration. He never stated they found any hotel registrations - yet logic says they had to have them. Why do you harass me into making repeat statements? CKRET comes here and makes statements he cannot prove to discredit me. Why should any witness who comes forward expect to be treated any differently? OK, I was trying to ignore (I really was, Snow, I promise, see I ignored the ridiculous post above the one i am answering) but this was aimed at me so let me answer. For the love of GOD - why would someone making a statement suddenly result in old evidence appearing when it has already been looked for and not been found?? What "logic" dictates it should be found? The suspect story of someone in China who you keep hiding? Why is Ckret trying to discredit you? (And saying this is attacking him, btw, which exposes your OUTRIGHT LIE from earlier) What does he gain from it? You are the only person on this forum who does not believe that Ckret wants to solve this case. As for Ckret making statements he cannot prove - HAHAHAHA talk about the pot calling the kettle black!!! (I'm not sure how you want him to prove them, either. How does he prove he couldn't find something?) And why do you harass me into repeating the obvious inconsistencies in your story? Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
-
If you look at my "history" of this you'll see it goes in cycles. I really should go back to just ignoring her, which I did for a long time. But the outright LIE about not attacking Ckret got my goat. I also wonder if not responding to her many preposrerous claims makes her think people believe them, and encourages her? The "jumping on her" is mainly an attempt to try make her see some sense but I guess I should realise it's futile. I really do feel sorry for her and think she should get on with her life rather than spending the rest of it caught up in this delusion, but I guess it's going to take a lot more than pointing out her many inconsistencies in an internet forum to do that. btw: if she could properly counter any of the points, she probably wouldn't see it as ganging up on her either ..in fact if she could properly back up her argument a lot of people here, myself included and from what Ckret and others have said them too, would happily encourage & support her (as I did in fact do way back when, before I realised that she had basically nothing but flights of fancy). She has a Duane agenda, I think most of the rest of us just want to know who it was - Duane, whoever, doesn't matter as long as we see some actual evidence. Ckret has already searched for documentation on the registration and not found anything. Do you bother to absorb anything on this forum that doesn't fit in with your view? (no, don't bother answering that one.) And Jo, can you explain how and why you are so certain the FBI would discredit your clerk? The only "discrediting" I can see happening would be if they could prove the clerk wasn't who he said he was, or is otherwise lying about something he says about the case. I am still of the conviction that this "night clerk" is jerking your chain for whatever reason of his own. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

So you are admitting that you have absolutely no backup, no evidence, no proof, no nothing for the following statement that you made: Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Sorry Jo, that is just a bald-faced lie. There are PLENTY of posts in which you have done exactly that, posts which have left a number of us even wondering why you haven't been banned for PAs. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

why would you have a secret conversation with Ed while Duane was alive, that involved a conversation about jumping? What was the context? Snowmman: Why do I have to repeat this story and why is everything I say taken out of context? This was not a "SECRET" conversation and it was not about "JUMPING". Ed was ill while we were in Denver and he asked Duane to come over and run an errand for him to get his medication. I stayed with Ed while Duane went to the drug store. It was a general conversation. He asked me where I was from and "just stuff". Toward the end of this conversation I asked him how long he had known Duane and where he knew him from. Simpy ordinary questions just general conversation. I had never met Ed prior to that time. He told me that he knew Duane from way back in WA, OR and ID. He mentioned Helicopters and planes - he was a pilot or mechanic. He also said something about Alaska and Vancouver. I told him I didn't know Duane had ever lived there. He immediately stated - that he supposed Duane had never told me about that part of his life and he did not realize I did not know. He asked me not to mention this to Duane - I would suppose thinking Duane would be upset. I kept my word and did not mention it to Duane and over time I forgot about it. Ed was very adamant about my not sharing our conversation with Duane. What I have just said is all he said. The conversation was interupted as Duane was back with the medication...the drug store was just on the corner of the block so what time I spent with Ed alone was about 15-20 minutes. So, he probably knew of some criminal activity Duane had engaged in in that time and did not want Duane to know he had let the cat out the bag. Maybe he was scared of Duane's reaction..?? Whatever, it really doesn't add anything to Duane being Cooper. So Ed was a pilot or mechanic - so what?? But even from what you've said you clearly knew during the marriage there was stuff Duane wasn't telling you, stuff that necessitated Ed asking you to keep the conversation from Duane. from another of Jo's posts: So explain how knowing a pilot or mechanic automatically implies exposure to jumping? Is this the "proof" that you have??????????? Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Good luck with staying healthy and getting your FAA cert... Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Disagree. He said he had a grudge, but I don't recall anything reporting him as saying that was the main reason for the hijack? Cannot prove that it was his primary motive rather than the money on what we know. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

not what i was looking for but same conclusion: (on adrenalin junky mode:) There have been many studies on what kind of people take risks. Scientists generally agree that the genetic makeup of the typical risk-taking person is exhibited in certain characteristics. For instance, there seems to be strong evidence that men are more likely to enjoy taking risks than women. This makes sense from an evolutionary standpoint, since men have almost always been thehunters and explorers and women have usually stayed close to the children andcared for them and the men in less adventurous, but no less important, ways. However, there are many women today who enjoy taking risks as well--among them many distinguished aerobatic pilots, rock climbers, skiers, hang gliders, and others. (It may be that cultural conditioning and lack of opportunity account for the large gender difference in such activities.) In addition, risk takers seem to have in common an enhanced ability for dopamine reuptake, i.e.,their brains respond more strongly to the chemicals released during stress. One Israeli study claimed in 1996 to have found what it called the "risk gene," labeling it D4DR, for "fourth dopamine receptor gene." They even located it on the 11th chromosome and pinpointed its function in the limbic portion ofthe brain. However, the study also said the gene would be responsible for only 10 percent of human risk-taking behavior. (http://www.faqs.org/health/topics/15/Risk-taking-behaviors.html) A quick search sees a number of authors talking about "risk normalization" - i.e. that skydivers quicly accept the "risk" as a normal thing and once they do that the sport is basically regarded as "just another sport". Most jumpers I know would agree with this I think. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
