hmmm.. here are a whole bunch of new suspects. i shall leave it up to the more intrepid/dedicated/whatever to filter them... http://www.facebook.com/s.php?q=db+cooper&init=q Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

I'm also a cessna DZ baby. I did my first 4-way around 50 jumps, not fantastic by any means but I did dock! However it was clear from the response I got from the more experienced jumpers in my first few 3 and 4-ways that they were surprised that we managed to turn a few points If your cessna DZ is any like the 2 I have jumped at, you should find some friendly experienced jumpers willing to go jump with a newbie. Ask... it really helped to be able to jump with people who can compensate, and give you decent advice (though jumping with other low number jumpers is also good to make you work!!) At around 80 jumps I did a couple of hours tunnel time and it was a huge help, so something I would highly recommend - even if you can't do it regularly because of distance/money/whatever, some time now focusing on freefall/FS skills will help give you a step up to making the jumps easier. And like someone else said, don't forget to have fun!! Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

So... Duane assassinated MLK, and he was also the Zodiac killer. But that still doesn't prove he was DB Cooper! Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

of tangential interest (unless Felhaber was Cooper) but I thought worth posting in light of the money discussion... http://edition.cnn.com/2008/CRIME/07/28/buried.millions.ap/index.html Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Interesting perspective.. so by logical extension can we ignore all the previous posts where you have tried to imply they are? (And thus dismiss Duane as a suspect entirely, and get on with finding out who it really was?) Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

I've been away a lot so have only skimmed many of the posts, but I don't recall anyone suggesting this? HOWEVER... there are certainly real instances of clothing impeding the ability to pull, usually something like a top that hasn't been tucked (in or become untucked) blowing over the ripcord/hacky/handles. (If Cooper jumped in his suit jacket or coat the effect may have been the same?) This is one of the reasons many people wear jumpsuits.... Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

I don't follow this. I've been looking at pictures of naked skydivers on youtube, and based on what we've discussed about the temps and probable LZ, I'm thinking Cooper could have done the jump naked. What are the numbers people are using to say a naked jump wouldn't be survivable? If naked is survivable, I think that clears up a lot of these hypothermia theories? I don't quite follow this line of reasoning - a naked jump is naked for maybe 4-5 mins total of freefall and canopy time (less for those jumping hot dog canopies). Then you land, get into the hangar and put your clothes on. Not the same as being outside and possibly lost or hung up on a tree or floating through the river or or or....{whatever} for a good while, if not the whole night, (possibly for the rest of his life) thereafter. plus happy's extract of the wiki hypothermia article. Might I also remind the forum (I think we spoke about this at some stage) of the guy who died of hypothermia after a successful BASE jump not that long ago. And I seem to recall reading about a long ago incident where a couple of guys landed in a lake, one survived because of what he was wearing, the other died of exposure/hypothermia IIRC - and we are not talking about all that long to rescue the guys (i may have some of the facts of this case wrong, if so can one of the older jumpers please correct me) Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

...just a reminder that "paper" money is not actually paper as most people think of it...(sorry, this pedant in me is hard to keep down). Then again, as it should be more resilient than paper I guess that underscores rather than undermines your quote. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

What he said... these guys have really added value. don't worry about the hebrew, nothing of significance!! Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Reserve pilot chute deployed... What to do?
Orange1 replied to the_sarge's topic in Safety and Training
You did the right thing. Reserve might open with an extreme linetwist due to the tumbelling bag. Maybe just my low jump numbers talking here, but not having control till 500ft sounds scary. Particularly as brakes not released till then and there have been enough threads recently about needing to do control checks before hard deck. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun. -
Hi snowmmmmmmman.... i'll need to go back and find it - i think ckret argued it quite well at one point - but that will take some time ...give me a while! Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Just thought that sentence bore repeating
-
Dunno about the "stupid" aspect, but it was shown pretty clearly, as I recall, that Cooper meant to make the jump before it got dark - so he may not have been prepared for a night jump (or a night out in the WA woods at that time of year?) Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

OK so... when you said you were going to "prove" (your term) something to Ckret, you didn't really mean it? Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

jeeeeeeeeez louise..... apart from the clear venom, talk about the pot calling the kettle black!! Jo, I really, really look forward to this PROOF you say you will present in Oct. In the meanwhile, ckret continues to astound most of us with his patience. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

What does it state or grant? AFAIK all A-licences issued under FAI-registered national associations are supposed to be treated as equal. As a matter of interest, does the SIM/USPA have any general rules? Our national rules for an A-licence jumper who has gone more than 3 months without a jump specify certain minimum recurrency requirements, though it is always up to the discretion of the DZO/CI if they think more than the minimum may be required. However (here) I've never heard of anyone being charged more than their slot + coach/instructor slot if necessary for a recurrency jump. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Another similarity to the Zodiac case is that it was known for throwing up many suspects who could all be made to 'match' the profile. There was a term used for this in the Zodiac context but I can't remember what it was. fyi http://www.zodiackiller.com/Suspects.html OK... begging the forum's indulgence, I can't really face going through 17 pages of posts since I was away... were there any significant developments? You criticize other people for being fixated on issues... why are you so fixated with what he was wearing? It had nothing to do with "business suit", it was just what people wore in those days. Plenty of posts attesting to that, including the one about just about every male who got off the plane was dressed just like that. All his dress tells us, at most, is that he didn't want to stand out from the crowd. btw there is a whole section in the transcript where they are saying he wants the stairs down at take-off and 305/flight ops are talking about needing to convince him they should only be lowered after take-off... read from 5.47pm to 6.59pm. Right, now i'm off for 2 weeks... nothing to do with sluggo... look forward to seeing what will have transpired in my absence Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

uh, that was ltdiver not me .... my current speciality seems to be spotting obscure references to monty python films and bad TV shows from the 80s (entertaining perhaps but not doing much to advance the cause here) Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

I had PC over the nose a few times as a student, on spring-loaded ripcord rigs. I was told (how true I don't know) that it was more common for lightly loaded canopies at that level. Never had one that didn't pass a control check, and never had once since i moved to BOC rigs. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Well, if he did then the FBI would have master prints on file. Ckret, forgive me if i missed it, but did you answer AggieDave's question of a while ago - were the prints ever run against [that fingerprint database whose acronym i have forgotten]? Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
