Sometime way back in the forum someone cleverly showed how Stairway to Heaven was the story of the DBC case. Right now I am reminded of another Led Zep song however... ..."Ramble on". Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Duane left the tie on the plane? Who took the tie originally? Duane or somebody Duane knew? see, this bit actually makes no sense. why would you leave a tie on a plane? most likely options for "not making it" are: (1) killed by law enforcement - in which case you have a body for identification (2) body disappears forever into the woods (or river, or whatever). if you believe that as an option, well then cooper could still be a body out there somewhere. if you were going to leave something on a plane to identify you, surely something better than mass produced cheap stuff? maybe his grudge was that he couldn't afford real ties and decent tie pins? Sigh. so much for (March 22) and wherever the one was saying will only post to correct errors. I feel sorry for Jo, I really do, even though she doesn't want me too. But the sympathy does get eclipsed by irritation at these fanciful conspiracy theories, the number and subjects of which i have now lost track. ..mlk...bay of pigs...freemasons are just 3 that spring to mind immediately... i'm sure somewhere we can weave all this into a wonderful plot, ending in The Conspiracy that begets all other conspiracies. agreed - i was more referring to the argument some people have proposed that if the shoes were ankle height they would be OK for a jump, my thinking was if you were used to jumping with boots you wouldn't want to chance it. (iow i was agreeing not disagreeing with you
-
Even if they were ankle height... didn't most/all jumpers in those days jump with big boots? we should try to analyse the shoes decision (or lack of) in the context of what the "done thing" was in those days. Just like saying jets are "no big deal", well maybe in those days they were? How many pure sport skydivers had done jet jumps back then? Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Hey Georger, you know well that correlation does not imply causation. Maybe Snow has driven one or two posters away but I think it's a bit unfair to blame him for everyone! Most obviously Ckret, whom I think everyone knows was "driven away" by another poster. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

So how do I convince my irrational wife to let me skydive?
Orange1 replied to Scythe's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I agree, and that is pretty much the way I personally have jumped (luckily with supportive spouse), and when my new baby is old enough it is how i plan to continue jumping. However, if you read some of the threads on currency in these forums, you might believe you are placing yourself at death's door by not getting in 20 jumps every weekend. Polygraphs prove nothing. Someone who truly believes what they are saying will pass even if it is a load of hogwash. If I believed I had been adbucted by aliens to extract the secret CIA info I knew, I would pass. Just because someone truly believes in a conspiracy theory doesn't prove anything other than that person can find NO evidence to back up their claims about Cooper. Directly contradicts the transcripts. I'd go with those over a ghost-written book in which you have already found other errors? Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Orange, it is exactly as you have assumed. The Flight Ops is with Northwest's Flight Operations department. Thanks Mr Nuke. So when people complain we don't have access to the NWA stuff... well we have the transcripts between 305 and NWA. What other NWA stuff do "we" want, actually? Brilliant idea! Maybe along the lines of Clue, where who Cooper was changes each game Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Well said. One can't talk about weighing the risks vs the benefits if you don't fully understand what those risks are. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun. -

You won't. Its just that simple. Decide now if your family is more important to you then a hobby. There are many many people in the skydiving world that will tell you about their ex-wives and ex-husbands due to similar. It cuts both ways. For some reason recently I have met a number of people who turned out to be ex-skydivers, from "my wife made me stop when we got married" to "I decided it was too selfish to spend every weekend at the DZ with a young family". Definitely take your wife to the DZ though. A work colleague considering a tandem came to look, and was amazed by "how relaxed and happy everyone looked when they landed" !! I guess he was expecting everyone to be quaking with fear! When people see load after load coming down and landing safely they tend to get more relaxed about it. ...just hope no-one has a bad landing in front of her! I may be lots of things, but a gentleman ain't one of 'em Someone remind me. There are 2 separate sets of 305 comms on the transcripts. One is with ATC, is the other with NWA, or who? I have pointed out before that the one seems more detailed than the other but also that it is not verbatim comments - i originally thought one was a summary but that isn't the case. One is Seatac ATC (the more detailed one) the other is "flight ops". Who are flight ops? (Apologies if this has been asked & answered already.) Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Snow, I have sympathy for Mr Nuke's point here. He tried in a very thorough way to answer your post, and you just dissed it with a "yeah, whatever". Are you falling into the Jo trap of dismissing whatever doesn't support your theory? And 1969912... I thought the ozark comment was uncalled for. Plenty posters on dz.com who leave a lot to be desired in the grammar/spelling stakes. Perhaps what they have to say is more important than how they state it. I prefer the approach of picking holes in arguments rather than grammar. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Human nature. Some people do it with evidence here but I come across it most often proof-reading reports - typos get missed because people read what they expect to read, not what's there. One of the funniest things that has happened to me re aerial landscapes is waking up during an overnight flight as we were almost home, looking out the window ... and seeing the dropzone beneath in the time it took me to figure out what i was seeing we were past it, seeing as big boeings fly faster than small cessnas

i bet that's a first ...... BEER!!!!!!! Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

lol, yes we were all very amused when the story came out! no gold bars though! Ekurhuleni btw is where most visitors land for the first time, it is where the airport for Johannesburg is located. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

you surely don't mean the tandem pax's had to get out on the strut? ours go out the door...(on all the C's i've jumped - 182, 206, 207, 210) btw i learnt to jump out a door (cargo door 206/207). sorry to disappoint you, 377, but that is also terrifying to newbies i was actually OK with it, but the girl in front of me had to be given a gentle...nudge by the JM to get her to go... I agree with G., but I don't view Occam's razor as a bias. It is common sense. If you don't use it, you can bring in the paranormal/conspiracies/new age "science" etc. to explain all mysteries. 377 I mentioned this looooong ago here. It's interesting isn't it - those of us in jobs where we apply occam's razor in practice (yes, i do too as a fundamental principle of my eco modelling) clearly have a predisposition to apply it here. then again, occam's razor usually holds. so for example: it makes much more sense to conclude that Duane wasn't Cooper, than that there has been an FBI/CIA conspiracy in place for 30 years to hide the fact that he was. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
-
To you maybe you ever seen a tandem pax jumping from a cessna? most of the time it is a BIG deal! how many jumps did you have when you jumped the jet, 377? Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Civilian with no jumping experience (or maybe just a few SLs), i'd put low chances on survival, especially with a hard pull, even before taking the terrain into account. Experienced jumper - much better chance - no sensory overload, ability to get stable, think about what to do if faced with a hard pull, etc. Paratrooper - best chance - used to jumping at night, bad conditions, uncertain terrain etc etc. If Cooper had been a paratrooper, even one trained with SL, I'd say in fact very good odds that he did survive. I'm not quite sure where i'd fit loadmaster etc into the above, but if the loadmaster/cargo kicker had smokejumper training, decent odds. If it was a loadmaster whose only jump was accidental.. well hell he obviously survived that one so yeah, could survive the jet jump too. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Oooh THANKS 377!! Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Were you there watching that you know he made a "cursory look"? My recollection of his posts on this matter implied he had looked as well as he would for any other evidence and could find no trace of it in the files. He was careful to point out that this didn't mean it never happened, just that he could find no evidence it did. So your use of the word "claimed" in a way that makes it sound like you don't believe him is very unfair. Once again you cast aspersions on the very man you kept on saying "must" do this, that or the other for you. No wonder he is no longer here. I don't think anyone has any doubt who is to blame for that. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
