And if Cooper came from the same mold, an apparently upright and highly respectable citizen who just pulled off this one thing... it might also be why he has never been found. I wonder how many people see identikits of people they know and just think "naaah... couldn't possibly be him".... Am I right that people have been arrested for major crimes before with those closest to them simply not making any connection between the police sketches and the person they know? hm, also a pretty comprehensive list which makes me think Ckret was being perfectly straight-up when he said he was investigating Duane. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Pity you answered it in advance Sluggo, because now Jo wiill say "well of course I recognized it..." (and no, I didn't recognise it, but why would I?!) Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

zoom, look at my jump numbers, i'm coming from much the same place as you. yes it can be overwhelming, whatever; the point is: you make the mistake once, it gets pointed out, you shouldn't make it again on another jump. Making a mistake is one thing, not learning from it is something else. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun. -
Now, that bit interests me. Perhaps he wasn't quite the loner everyone has assumed, just knew the "right" people. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

No Georger, I don't. The bit I found most interesting was in the 2nd article where H alludes to the fact that maybe the statute of limitations wasn't gonna run out because it was a capital crime at the time... Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Thanks Sluggo. As for the photo, well, it seems anyone can claim just about anyone looks like Cooper thse days Edited to add - re newspaper article (paper sack) also interesting, especially the stuff about the statute of limitations at the beginning and the IRS calculation at the end! Wonder what he would owe th IRS by now in interest..!! Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Lodi Facing Million Dollar Lawsuit
Orange1 replied to michaelt's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
To abstract the posts so far, do i get the basics right here: - it is more dangerous to do a full speed jump run - this was not the litigant's first H&P on such a jump run - he had had a close call and been warned how to exit previously In other words, the practise was not the safest possible but the litigant had already jumped that way and been cautioned about where he was going wrong. He made the decision to do another jump in those circumstances. In my simplistic view of this, coming from a non-litigous nation, in this instance i would say it is the jumper's responsibility. (I might not feel the same for a student who had never had a jump run like that and where it wasn't explained to him beforehand.) Analogy? Newly licensed driver. He is used to braking a certain way when he sees a red light. One day it is wet when he is driving, he doesn't start braking in time, then slams the brakes and skids. All is OK though and passenger (let's say for argument sake he happens to be a driving instructor) says " start braking sooner next time in the wet". Next time in the wet he does the same thing he did the first time and causes an accident. Is the instructor at fault? Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun. -
Interesting, considering what you have presented to the forum so far in terms of the FBI. So now there are things (that we are not allowed to know) that the FBI did in fact investigate to your satisfaction? What else, I have to wonder, did the FBI spend time on investigating that you have not mentioned in all your rants about their lack of interest? Interesting comment, considering that you also said You expect him to shuffle out the crap without knowing 90% of what you apparently have? And to return to what 377 said: here you had one person (Sluggo), in good faith, who was seriously trying to help you.... and you basically shafted him. You gave him access to a tiny portion of what you claim to have, you ignored his advice and then you said many ugly things about him on this forum (which you now seem to be trying to take back with your flattery more recently). I cannot see why on earth he or anyone else would now take you up on: Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

or: as has been stated before... no-pull rig in good camo color, + stripped /scavenged remains. or somewhere underwater. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

wouldn't that argument assume that Cooper knew an exit would result in a pressure bump? .. that really only takes us back to the Air America drops then, how else could he know? Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Twardo has a good point! Well... I dunno, with local connections and at least a passing familiarity to the sketch, was Gossett ever interviewed at the time? Does anyone have any idea where he was based at the time of the hijacking? (Sorry if that has been mentioned somewhere...) But yes 377 has a good point re lack of disguise. Then again... we don't really know do we? Someone posted a link about the "complexion" being faked (not sure how reliable that was), hair dye would have been easily available... how much else can you do to not get yourself noticed when about to board a plane? Did McCoy et al wear disguises? I certianly wouldn't dismiss the thought that he wasn't local and probably foreign domiciled. I guess a lot could be answered if we knew why that flight was chosen. Your opinion and probably anyone else's who read this: I have to note that that quote was immediately followed by this: I might not like my quotes being used if they kept contradicting other posts, too. Georger, your point about watches/DNA is taken, but the point 377 was trying to make - I believe - centred around the claim she had given them everything they needed yet then saying she hadn't (whether or not watches are good, she seemed to believe they were - goes to intent, your honor). Incidentally, why would watches not be good? I would (naively?) think that as they are constantly rubbing against your skin, that they would be a decent source of DNA? Georger, re your post on Gossett... the pic of Gossett vs the Cooper sketch. The ears look very similar to me, what do you think?? I seem to recall someone posted something about why gossett did not match the cooper sketch... but i can't for the life of me recall what it was now. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

No ... only problem is nearly forgetting to close it a couple of times Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

What she said, plus, i just find if flying for say an hour or so in the tunnel it gets really uncomfortable to wear goggles for that long (I wear contact lenses so am paranoid about having goggles tight if i do wear them). P.S. we wear Z1s and you can see smiles just fine P.P.S it looks cooler, I mean, where are your priorities?? Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

That's a much better idea, and far more constructive, than continually using this forum as a vehicle to lambaste the FBI. Did Carr ever claim it was all the result of their own investigation? I never saw anything he said on this forum where he said he would send you the file, just that he would answer any questions you had - which he seemed to do with incredible grace and courtesy considering the way you treated him. No, you don't. And I really don't need to explain that any further. And if you can't actually read 377's post objectively, then you will never understand why people cannot take you seriously, even those who were at first inclined to do so (and I was one of those, way back when.) And you will not understand why by now practically no-one has any interest in expending energy to help you answer your who when where questions with photos of unnamed people, at mostly undetermined places at undetermined times and sometimes even of indeterminate gender. When I look back at that sentence I start thinking Georger is right - you really do treat this as if it is a game. I'm sure that's not your intention, but it sure is what it comes across as. Bruce, honestly, isn't it as simple as the fact that high-profile cases attract more than their fair share of crackpots? I mean, over 600 people confessed to either being the Lindbergh kidnapper or the Black Dahlia murderer. I'm sure there were a number of those that fit the profiles enough for serious investigation too, people who didn't appear to be crackpots on the surface. Why did all those people confess? This was way before MKUltra... As for Jo, I have no doubt she believed she heard Weber confess. But I have seen people completely mis-hear other people particularly when they are in a highly emotionally wrought state (as Jo must surely have been wracked with grief, watching her husband die), and swear forever after that they heard X when it simply wasn't the case. I still can't help wondering if maybe Duane actually said something else. Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Pretty damning NTSB report on the pilot .. C180 is that the same size/similar to 182? Aren't those size cessnas not supposed to be used for aerobatics at all? Whatever, horrible stuff... I understand that in most instances a cessna can be glided to the ground. Certain countries do not have bail-out rigs mandatory for pilots and I have seen the same pilot use one on a porter but not when flying cessnas. ...anyway.. we digress. edited to add: am i reading right that the pilot only had 4 hours on that type of plane? Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
-
yeah, or that :) does anyone know if bailout rigs for pilots were mandatory back then by the way? Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Wasn't there something about a particular angle to pull? The stuff the other guys wrote about the benefits of a bigger canopy etc maybe make sense? If you need it for that and youy know what the "trick" for the pull is, doesn't that make some kind of sense? Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Jo, I think I speak for all of us when I say any info is welcome to be made public, however in this forum preferably to be kept in reference to trying to solve the Cooper case. And please don't be disingenuous talking about "wasting valuable space", is everyone meant to go and read 11000 posts or whatever it is all the time? Just because you get embarrassed by what people post. You don't seem to mind when it is about Cossey or whatever. oh, there is a second point to be made about wasting valuable space... Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

Great link, thanks. 20 jumps for a B license I guess Art Starne's 300 made him one of the most experienced of that day? Do we have any way of finding out? Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.

twasn't me that said they were weak.. just that cooper may have brought them! just to set the record straight

Why am I not surprised that all of a sudden, despite all the discussion about smokejumpers and not a word being breathed, we suddenly have interest in and intricate knowledge of firefighting too... in response to a (tongue-in-cheek) question? Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun.
