"Keep surviving men, we are coming" ? or the miners could say "Gee come get us please" i don't think that being able to talk with trapped miners is as important as knowing their status. i'm guessing that getting to the bottom of a mine would be approached differently if you were trying to reach survivors as opposed to bodies. that is the problem though, i don't know a way to make this happen. i think that people are making a good point that more lives are saved putting the money into making it safer, you know, ounce of prevention, pound of cure thing. this is a very interesting conversation. there are people like myself all over the country monday morning quarterbacking the rescue effort. the problem is that 99.5% of us know almost nothing about mines. i think there is a lot of frustration because it is difficult for people to understand what took so long. here is what i believe. i believe that there was a procedure that was followed to effect the rescue. this procedure was written using all the knowledge gained about mine rescue before this accident. this knowledge was probably gained at the cost of many miners' lives. this part is something we should be able to relate to. when there is a skydiving accident, we look at the procedures and refine them if necessary. i should hope that the same thing happens with mine rescue. i too have an ideas that may have sped things up, but i don't know about mines or mine economics so my ideas are nothing more than shots in the dark. the media isn't going to look dumb, they didn't make it up. they only reported the news that everyone else above ground had. i'm not trying to place any blame, i'm simply curious about something. why couldn't someone in the beginning put on a scba and walk in at at least find out what is going on down there? i know that you wouldn't make a 4 mile round trip with an scba, but a team of recuers could carry extra tanks down and stage them in such a way that a small team could make it down and back and at least people on the surface would know what they were dealing with in a matter of a few hours? it was 12 hours before anyone even entered the mine. this is true. my mom has worked for WA state for i'm guessing about 20 years. she was required to join a union or be fired. what's worse, she keeps being given more responsibilities, but hasn't had a pay raise in a few years, and likely won't be seeing one anytime soon. this doesn't sound like much of a union to me, it sounds more like the mafia. i think you're right about a seattle superbowl. i think the colts will get their heads straight if not by next week, certainly by playoffs. there's only so long you can emerse yourself in a tragedy before you just have to get back to life. i would be surprised dungy wasn't back for next week. for seattle i'm predicting that we'll see very little of hasslebeck, and i think holmgren will let #37 get one touchdown to set a new record and then pull him. it still should be an easy win. Or at least it will be a good game and a preview of this season's Super Bowl game... i wish it were a preview, but it won't be for three reasons. first, the colts have nothing to play for, so we will likely see very little of their starters. second, they're coming off a lost so momentum is on our side. third, their head coach's son was found dead af suicide yesterday morning. that alone has to have their heads fucked up. that said, they are still a good team and it won't be a walk in the park, but the bottom line is that the colts that will play tomorrow won't be the same team that's been playing all year, nor will it be the same team that will be playing in the post season. this may finally be our year, at least to make it to superbowl if not win it. i believe that our only obsticle will be the giants if we have to play them. it is very likely that the colts will be in the superbowl. i actually wish that they had won last week so tomorrow we would see what we're up against. right now though there's no reason for them to risk injury to their starters. seattle should put up another w and clinch home field advantage.
