at the gym today i did a practice swim/bike/run. the swim was a breeze since i usually swim 4 to 5 times that far normally. this took about 11 minutes. the real deal will be a little harder since, being in a lake, i won't have a wall to push off of every twenty meters, no little line on the bottom to follow, and as you said, people kicking me in the head. 6 miles on the stationary bike in an air conditioned gym is definately nothing like the real thing. i completed this in around 17 minutes. this is conciderably faster than the loop i normally ride that is shy of 6 miles, although the loop i ride has hills and the race course is flat. the run was slow. it took me about 26 minutes to go 2 miles on a treadmill. i know that running on a road is much more difficult, but my only goal is to finish, so i'll have no problem walking if i have to. there are other things to contend with also. i'm betting that the temperature will be in the 90s. the race is at 6:30 at night, so it could even be hotter than that if there's no wind. i also don't have the proper gear. i'm not going to wear a speedo. i'll be making the swim in my swim trunks. when i get out of the water, i'll just drop my swim shorts and put on my running shorts and running shoes and ride the bike wearing that. (don't worry, i'll wear underarmor underwear the wholw time) this will shorten the transition from bike to run, but i don't think it will matter. what the fuck was i thinking? i'm certainly not in the right shape to do this sort of thing, but i'm determined to be the fattest man to finish the race. for a real athlete it wouldn't be a problem, but it will be tough for me. its only a 1/4 mile swim, 6 mile bike ride, and 2 mile run. i'm not worried about the swim, i'm a fish. the bike ride i take occasionally is just under 6 miles and i do it easily. the run will definately be a bitch, but i figure i can gut it out. any advice from people who do this sort of thing would be appreciated, likely not taken, but appreciated none the less. Mount St. Helens, closed to climbers since the volcano grew active in September 2004, will be opened to climbers again July 21, the U.S. Forest Service announced Friday. Officials say that the system to award permits and hold reservations will be combined when climbing reopens. More details will be available Thursday, the Forest Service said. i tosses the zucchini with olive oil and kosher salt and pan fried them with a little butter. when i flipped them over i put grated parm cheese on them. i just grilled the chicken with salt and pepper. the zucchini was better than the chicken. i have another one left so i'll likely do the same thing tonight. i may stick them under them broiler for a couple minutes to toast the cheese a little.
