Good post Tom, it doesn't hurt to have a reminder for these things. Last season I was talking with the owner of one of the campsites, he asked our group not to jump the waterfall - explaining that he was put in a very difficult situation when a large group of tourists staying at his site witnessed a fatality and suffered obvious psychological distress (some needed councilling...). It doesn't hurt to do the jumps from the waterfall early morning when there aren't many people about... BASEstore.it

Wingsuit demo and smoke, how to pop it
unclecharlie95 replied to kansasskydiver's topic in Wing Suit Flying
there was this guy once who was going to jump smoke for the first time. He got offered the choice between 2 military smokes, one red, one white. He selected the red smoke and mounted it on suitable bracket, wearing good footwear. The guy went off to do the demo jump. He popped the smoke in the door, waiting 10 sec and then exited. At about the same time his friends who were waiting for the plane to return to take the next load decided to let off the other smoke. The instant the pin was removed a 5ft white "phosphorus" flame shot out of the top of the unit and it continued to burn like this for about 3 minutes. They immediately radioed the pilot to stop the guy from jumping. To their relief the pilot reported that the guy was under canopy and appeared to be okay. The white smoke was "a high intensity phosphorus" smoke grenade. Luckily the guy had chosen the normal smoke... Try before you buy... and take a knife with you BASEstore.it -

Prodigy Wingsuit Press Release!
unclecharlie95 replied to unclecharlie95's topic in Wing Suit Flying
This is always a "gray" area as there are many factors that affect performance. From the flocking dives we made at Z flock and the BASE flights I made with GPS I have found the Prodigy sits between the Classic and GTi in terms of performance (but closer to the GTi). More forward speed than I used to get on my Classic but still slow vertical speed. On my early flights I was getting verticals in the 50 mph zone and horizontals in the 80mph zone, so GR around 1.6 - 1.7 :1. It will be interesting to do another jump with the GPS now I have had more practice with the suit. J BASEstore.it -

Prodigy Wingsuit Press Release!
unclecharlie95 replied to unclecharlie95's topic in Wing Suit Flying
The Prodigy is a perfect wingsuit for new pilots. The normal recommendations apply - 200 jumps in 18 months or 500 jumps total. (Note: in the UK, BPA recommendation is 250 jumps in 18 months) BASEstore.it
