  1. first off, when the cops are looking for suspects, they tend to stop at the obvious, and also to use the obvious to discount them. first thing they would do would be look at the casings and caliber, they would tend to discount the .40 cal due to caliber and never get to the point of looking at the firing pin or ejector markings. if you were overly concerned about that, that was the point of mentioning the jacket. a good killer would want to be as close as possible, especially with a 2" barrel. concealing it in the pocket is an excellent way to not arouse suspicion, and even to go so far as to allow a hit in the open on a busy sidewalk. the pocket conveniently carries away the casings, but some guns will jam if shot from a pocket. second, as far as having a torch conveniently around to melt the barrel, well, i suppose if one were to go to the trouble of procuring the extra barrel, magazine, and ammunition without leaving a trace, then the torch shouldn't be much trouble at all, seeing as how you don't even have to hide it.
  2. i have an original one for you. i have the ultimate murder gun for you, and there may be others out there like it. m&p shield .40 cal. fits in your pocket well, hammerless, won't jam when 3 rounds are fired in the pocket, and it's an automatic. the murder part is that the 9mm is interchangeable with just replacing the barrel and magazine. swap them out, use it, then take the 9mm barrel and magazine to the garage and melt them with the torch. they never get as far as looking at the firing pin since it's the wrong caliber. the automatic part works in your favor in this case. think that would work?
  3. almost, at least how i understand it. the spike is getting ready to flatten, then we can ease up and allow it to continue without overwhelming the healthcare system. that is what we are avoiding by social distancing. we can never stop the spread completely, just slow it so we can handle it.
  4. the worst part is they're right, at least for most of us. most of us will be just fine. that does not mean we should stop listening to the professionals and stop our social distancing. it seems that the political divide that has divided our country so thoroughly has inadvertently found the human divide as well, since most of the conservative and/or republican leaning folks are concerned about themselves (the me, me, me that wants the economy in good shape and says that the situation is not serious enough to warrant the actions taken) and the liberals (or progressives, almost interchangeable at this point) care more about others (stay inside, listen to experts not politicians, there really is a huge risk for some of us). i don't know if you can classify it like that or if it is even correct, but it certainly seems that every time i hear about the hoax or the inconvenience, it is a republican and that every time i hear someone saying there is a problem, it is a democrat leaning person or a healthcare worker.
  5. how many millions will die needlessly if we wait? maybe not millions, but how many thousands? for one man's ego? i think not!
  6. too long and too many lives lost, and look how effective the last one was. he didn't even wait til it was over to do it again. time to 25th the son of a bitch. hell, at this point, i would welcome a military coup. what do we have to do to get him the hell out?
  7. you had a waiver from dod to not jump while deployed. we had to jump while deployed but it was a spec ops unit and we all got foreign jump wings. i was rear det and didn't get mine, in fact, i was off jump status for two months with a broken ankle and had to forfeit jump pay. some units are more lax than others, but i was the admin and i can assure you that at the time, the regs were in place and most units followed them.
  8. when did they change that rule? i got out in '04 and we had to jump every three months or lose our jump pay. same for active duty. i even went on a fun jump at ft bragg once to maintain my jump pay.
  9. it takes as long as it takes, and not one second longer. that is the same with everything. i heard somewhere that the country would collapse if it is shutdown for three months. it will not. if it takes three months to get over this, then so be it. if it takes a year, so be it. i think that if they start to listen to people who know what they are talking about, it CAN be over in about another month. too bad this administration isn't very good at that. have you heard of the guy that died when he and his wife listened to trump and took fish tank parasite remover because he said chloroquine will cure covid 19 and said it was safe and wouldn't kill anyone? natural selection at it's finest. maybe we should put him on more often and the election will take care of itself by november.
  10. i can see pushing back medical certificates because the healthcare system could be overwhelmed trying to care for people, but not the currency requirements for certifications for jumps.. all of these can be met when we start jumping again. no need to put safety of everyone out the window unnecessarily. not like we're jumping right now anyway.
  11. they gotta jump at least every three months to stay current to get jump pay.
  12. damn, son, sounds like you PAID THEM to believe that lie. i am amazed at how bad you must feel with yourself to grasp at this straw. i'm gonna go ahead an stop right now so as not to make it worse for you. i sincerely hope you get better.
  13. that's one of the biggest lies they sold you. if they had started at the beginning, in late december, telling us the truth, and what could happen, the stores would have been empty, then restocked, and by now we would all be laughing about it. they would have had everyone tested, isolated the few that were bringing it in, and the curve would be flat as hell. but that was only table topped with the obama team before the inauguration and in the briefing he got in mid 2018. yet he has the audacity to say it snuck up on us and nobody knew about it.
  14. he doesn't have the mental capacity to play a radio.
  15. this one in italics: https://www.dropzone.com/forums/topic/38454-origin-of-"perfectly-good-airplane"-%3F/
  16. start skydiving in oh closed until a reevaluation until 3 april, same day schools come back.
  17. you got me to a little research; thanx for that. turns out he did call the corona virus outbreak a hoax, just not the virus itself, so there is a technicality to your statement that is true. and it actually made me a little less confident in his abilities as a leader of anything, and it always does when i read or listen to his incoherent ramblings. it is a damned goo d thing that individual states and locations are taking it upon themselves to (finally) start doing something, although i do question whether the healthcare system will be overloaded in another week, as i heard predicted last week on one of the "news" stations (they said that based on italy, we would have our system overwhelmed in two weeks, that was last wednesday, so next wednesday is 14 days give or take). there is a lot more that could have, and should have, been done but like everything else that happens, not nearly as dire as predicted.
  18. he refused to take donations of testing kits while he waited on one of his cronies' companies to manufacture them; then bailed out wall street to the tune of 1.5 trillion while promising cuts to medicare on 1 april. not too hard to see where this idiot is leading us, the only real question is, who has the balls to start the 25th proceedings to remove this dangerous, incompetent fool?
  19. i can't help but jump into this one. it appears that he was saying that he had extensive experience in the area that would show that the ban is not going to last long due to cultural and financial reasons, and even provided a couple of sources supporting his claim. i don't know either one of you, but see no reason to immediately discount his views, as i haven't been there and know almost nothing of the culture. i take it you have experience that shows how this is either wrong or irrelevant? if so, i would love to evaluate it.
  20. they hadn't left enough separation or used it up, the jumper stated that they had a 12 second count, but that it could have been "skydiver seconds" and they didn't know the ground speed or discuss anything about who was doing what on the jump. he wanted to know if anything else could have been done besides groups separation to avoid canopies underneath him at pull time. the reddit thread is here. i initially thought it was sop to not track on jump run, then found out that was most likely an artifact from student status of 22 years. i am always going to make it a point to not track on jump run if possible, and to practice my tracking until i get really good at it. glad to have seen the thread and i learned a lot from the discussion.
  21. i am going to use this as an answer to my question originally, as it makes sense that i would still be using the limited information i had as a student just last year. now that it makes sense to me, i can accept that there is no rule for tracking on jumprun at breakoff. it just did not make sense to me that i had been given contradictory information, and now i know better. thanx to all for the explanations.
  22. it seems that it was a good question, as there isn't really a consensus. the closest i can get is that separation between groups takes care of it. except when it doesn't. for example, given two 4 way groups that need a 10 second gap, they have a full 10 seconds between them but are drifting towards one another, not much, but some. i have read a lot about separation and it isn't that unlikely to have drifting like this. the reason i am asking as i stated is the discussion on reddit. the jumper said that he found himself over another group at pull time, then asked what he could do to prevent it, and said that tracking to one side was forbidden due to being over the ocean. since i don't have a lot of experience at larger dropzones, i figured i would ask and see what the accepted procedures for dealing with it are. i am surprised to find that the only consensus is having enough separation. i know it's important but there are too many stories about folks not knowing how to do it properly.
