Arthur, once you've aged a few years you'll start training towards the distance events I swim. Trust me on this one bro', just try and put it off as long as possible. FWIW the tall 6'7"+ dork who got me into sport parachute jumping, one Mr. G. _arner, an all-America all-Academic Olympic contender at Michigan (whose brother was captain at Princeton) was a sprinter like you. Quite the "power-fool" under Coach Urbanchek.

Now, would this statement include "spelunking in the Cave of Love"? Blutarsky 2008. No Prisoners!

Yeah, I've done that sort of 'sailing' before as a courtesy to others. It's what skydiving and BASE jumping have in common -- similar equipment. Love to take you out in a Soling in heavy seas and see you actually down a beer through your mouth without it flowing into your nose or overboard -- assuming you aren't already yacking your guts out. Sailing. I grew up in a port town that under Western convention dates to its 'discovery' by LaSalle in 1692, and I have sailed and raced the large yachts that other people own through many of the worlds waterways including the oceans. I can sail almost the entire Great Lakes without needing compass or map (I am not welcome in Sarnia Ontario, however), I just need to know which body of water I'm on and the time of year. Of course this ability doesn't have much value given GPS. But I have my fun and, most importantly, get to share it with others. (Edited: to change the date I should have known with accuracy but that had to pointed out to me by an Allegan friend who shares my passion for freshly-made Dean's Blackberry icecream from Dean's of Allegan Michigan) Blutarsky 2008. Only as a counter to Wendy's example do I give you one John Anzalone, who was an early presidential campaign manager for then-governor Bill Clinton and who still has clout with the Democratic power elite. Johnny and I played youth and high school sports together, and we also acted in Thespians and wrote comedy sketches with some other friends that have become noteworthy. The scandalous thing in my book is that he is a Michigan boy who was converted to Southern-anity by James Carville and we grew up in the most Republican region of that fine Northern state. This guy walks into a psychiatrist's office...
Sen.Blutarsky replied to shall555's topic in The Bonfire
The 'psychiatrist' is actually a Skinnerian, snatches the duck off the ventriloquist's head, makes duck soup and bills the man for services rendered. Government work is God's own work! -
Hey Darshiva8, I realize that fluids are not your main gig, however, Skysurfcam got me thinking how to solve for pressure force exerted by a board as it is moving in the _horizontal direction_ relative to earth. There is a user-friendly viscosity relationship I was considering where the pressure force equals the area of a board times the ratio of velocity over the vertical separation (AGL) at a given time with this product being multiplied by a simple coefficient of viscosity. So, F=A*v/l*eta where eta is the viscosity of air at 20 degrees C, 0.018*10^-3 Pascal seconds. This should give pressure force in the direction perpendicular to vertical provided the board keeps moving in a constant horizontal direction, no? Not to hijack, just curious, thx. Blutarsky 2008. Venture capitalists going after alternative energy
Sen.Blutarsky replied to SpeedRacer's topic in The Bonfire
And Chicago entrepreneurs lead the effort in a very global way: http://www.chicagoclimatex.com/about/. These guys even have pretty good IP counsel by now. Blutarsky 2008. No Prisoners! -
I have non-digitized photos I took during my very first sport jump, albeit a static line deployment, at Omro. It's exceedingly rare but does happen. (thanks Wild Bill/Paranaut) Note that I opted _not_ to concern myself with a camera on the second, somewhat more involved, jump. Although these photos were shot in panoramic, I think it's probably about time I at least scanned them for posting here. Stay tuned. Blutarsky 2008. No Prisoners!

From now on when I have a crappy day I'm returning to these photos for cheer. Thank you Daizey & Phree for doing a wonderful thing. (damn Buckeyes ) Blutarsky 2008. No Prisoners!

No. There are no drop zones that are open to the public in the PRC from what I have been able to tell. I believe that Hong Kong did have one years ago but it went under even before the communists took over. (edited to add: this is shame since the Chinese have plenty of their nation's version of the venerable Mi-8 helicopter, which is a terrific platform for gaining altitude.) Blutarsky 2008. Well, a "quasi" martini: 1/3 good quality gin 1/3 sweet Vermouth 1/3 Campari Shaken, not stirred! Add a lemon twist and enjoy. Nigh impossible to mess up. Official name: a Negroni. Excellent with rich olive oil-based appetizers in prelude to fine Italian dining. Yum. Blutarsky 2008. No Prisoners!

Since late October 2004 due to the fact I have been running several international businesses and picking up yet another graduate degree, this one in straight computer science with concentrations in software engineering and security architecture (i was awarded the degree last Sunday). This was the longest duration "break" from the sport in my 12+ year jumping career. Now I'm even planning some first-time tunnel flying in Europe this winter to whip my freeflying skills back into shape. I'm set to resume 200+ jumps/year pace starting this July 2005 with the time, money and inclination to get back to a 300+ annual jump pace by Spring 2006. The break was worth it financially and otherwise, but I miss flying and playing with my Skydive Chicago family darn it! Blutarsky 2008. No Prisoners!

When you get leave stop by the Paris Cafe in Anchorage and tell 'em you're a skydiver - you'll receive treatment royale. Then go and jump at Wasilla (tell Bill & Carol that James & Susan from Chicago sent ya) for some of the most jaw-agape sights to be viewed in skydiving. Wishing you good luck and excellent seas until then. Blutarsky 2008. No Prisoners!
