Thanks a lot for the input guys! I've checked if it's the switch that causes it, but it isn't. I tried to compensate but underexposing 1 or 2 full stops with little effect on the ground. In AV and evaluative, shutter speed only dropped 1/3 stop from 200 to 250. Saskia: I'll try out what you suggested. But I'll wait with the entire reset. I'm afraid I'll forget to write down some of my settings and screw up =P "Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been and there you long to return." - Da Vinci www.lilchief.no

I rarely use Av og Tv mode on my 40D, but find them sometimes useful...if I only get it right. The issue is metering mode. I've used spot, center weighted and evaluative. On spot it metered the black tandem rig, overexposing the image with an incredible slow shutter. Center weighted caught the clouds, darkening everything else... AN evaluative...well...I hardly saw some small spots from the jumpsuits =/ Why is this happening???? it frustrates me that I don't understand it! Also.. in Av or Tv, the camera is set for a full stop overexposure, and I can't reset it. Is it factory fixed that way, or is there a super secret button to push(not the ISO- metering button). Help much appreciated. the photo attached is Av mode with evaluative metering. The mod was made because of a tandem fatality. It's has been discussed here before and details about the mod is on the UPT website: http://www.unitedparachutetechnologies.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=160 Every new rig from UPT comes with the new mod. Older rigs needs to modified at the jumpers expense. I've not done it yet, since the incident is rare, cost and I'm lazy. The pull is quite similar after stretching the bungee. Normally you'd have the "yoink"when the handle hits the ball on the wire and then comes the pull. On the spectra you have the same pull, just not the grinding sensation/vibrations from the metal wire gliding over metal housing. I did test the force required to pull the pin in 3 different ways, straight up, 90 degrees outwards and straight down. the pull force upwards and sideways exceeded 25kg. Straight down was 11kg before movement began, but I had to increase pull force to 16kg to pull out the pin . A live pull, I reckon is higher then 16kg at the peak. has someone tested the peak force during pull? Sorry for that. Let me rephrase my self: Should we teach all fresh swoopers to use rears to plane out with after a dive to minimize the danger of slipping a toggle? After reading what happened to DSE, I thought through my way of approach on hookturns. I'm always aiming for rears after completing the turn, ready to level off. My question to you out there is: By mainly thinking to go on rear risers after the dive/turn and think on toggles as second, will you be more safe then relying on toggles to level off with? Reason I'm asking is because if a toggle slips and you're already on your risers, you'll still be able to level out and land, even though you've got to run fast for a short while or imitate tumbleweed. I'm not thinking about the scenario where you're to low, cause then you'll need toggles. And if they slip there, you'll be in pain. I'm thinking of a normal dive when you know your altitude and turn and you don't have to dig yourself out. So what do you guys think? My risers have done some 400+ jumps and I can already see melting fabric on my frontrisers. No broken threads og cuts, just melting damage. I've only had Samurai's on my rig(size 136 and 120), both with HMA lines similar to the lines a Mamaba has. I'm wondering if HMA and stainless steel grommets creates more heat compered to Vectran/Spectra. Anyone got info on that? If you haven't read it yet, Spectra Ripcord is now available from UPT. I just installed mine(see pictures) and it seems good. When changing from a wire to spectra, remember to attach a micro line pullup to the pin eye before pulling out your handle ;) The bungee is good to have in case your metal handle comes loose. But for the "FF-handle" it's not really necessarily since the velcro hold it in place. But, you may now inspect the attachment to the FF-handle which you can't with a wire. The biggest drawback is that the blue line doesn't match my rig. I hope it comes in red or black soon "Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been and there you long to return." - Da Vinci www.lilchief.no

I'll add something I consider a useful tip on the Vapor models, or other Skysystems models with the same dytter pocket. Yesterday I lost my optima dytter in the porter just after getting in. I thought I lost it on the ground, but it stayed in the plane during that load. I later recovered it from the pilot who found it by he's feet during descent. I was well aware of the potential loss of my dytter since the dytter pocket is loose and doesn't hold a dytter well. But after this episode i made a mod to the pocket. I took a small piece of cordura from an old jumpsuit, added 2 layers of duc-tape on it but left 1/8" cordura be uncovered by the tape. I then sewed the tape and cordura together for extra hold. I then sewed the cordura without tape on to the padding with a needle and E-thread. Just make sure you size and align the piece of cordura with the dytter pocket for a snug fit. If I'd had time and material(ZP or F111 instead of cordura for instance), I'd make a better fix, but this works for me now. THe quadlock and goldmember have some play inbewteen the base and plate. Add 1 or 2 layers of standard transparent tape you use on regular paper and it should work perfectly =) I've got a Sony PC350 on it and it holds with 2 layers. here are two shots of the most severe damages. Carey at Skysystems advised me not to jump it, but I can't stop jumping it until I get a new shell =( I've reinforced it with a proper tape, but I'll also add glue to it. The insurance company is currently being easy and is not giving me any trouble so far. I hoe it continues. hahahaha...nice story! We had 3 SL students under 240's and 260's last easter that hit strong thermals. The first one down came down after 10 minutes, while the last one came down after 25 minutes! I gave them a diploma for nice paraglider skills at our xmas party =D "Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been and there you long to return." - Da Vinci www.lilchief.no

So..I got a friend of mine to pick up my Vapor Wes Pro from skysystems before Easter and bring it overseas. He carefully packed it so it would break or get damaged during flight. BUT, then comes Deptartment of Homeland Security and checks his bag. They pick it up, look at it and puts it back without packing it as it was. Now...I'm stuck with a damaged brand new flat top and the season starts in 2 days. yey... Even though the insurance covers this... I waited 2 months for it, and won't be able to get a new one before late in the season here in Norway. My question is..is it safe to use it? The paint has chipped of just where the jaw part of the helmet starts, as if the jaw got an uppercut or got pulled down. It seems fine and is after all carbon, but how will it hold in freefall when i get a hard opening? Has anybody had any experiences with this? I gave away one of mine metal knifes to a jumper this Easter. I later lit the thing on fire and laughed as it melted But the test I did took many jumpers by surprise, so I think they got the message...or at least I hope so. I took a plastic hook knife like yours, and tested it on a HMA line. We were 2 riggers and one skydiver that tried, and no one could cut the 1000lb HMA. It just got stuck in the upper corner and gut approx 40% of the line. One last skydiver managed to cut the line, but only due to repositioning the blade so it sliced more before getting stuck in the upper corner. I really hope that the manufactor would stop selling theese knives due to its poor quality. I'd say it hazardous since people are buying them without knowing that they "won't" work... get a proper metal hook knife, all of you! I had the similar issue on my I6 w/Pilot 210 DOM 2005. I noticed that under the retainer loops, the left overs from sewing the toggle attachments where a little sharp. On one side it was more prominent then on the other side, hence the wear was more significant on the "sharpest" side. I thought until now that it was only an issue with my rig, but I've also seen it on other Icon's. maybe someone else has some 2 cents on this issue?
