It's illegal to carry a concealed weapon without a permit just about everywhere (except vermont). But people still do it. People still have them illegally. Even in Toronto and London. So what would passing a new law do? First when you elliminate every illegally carried gun, then maybe think about new laws. Enforce those that exist first. Once again, the only people that will comply with a new law are law abiding citizens. It won't change a thing for the criminals.

Then the next new method becomes common. Again, I know it's cliche, but people kill people. If they want to kill they'll find a way, they always have and always will. The point your missing is that if the laws were made more restrictive, then any nutcase or person would still be able to get a gun, illegally. Currently, any nutcase or person can't legally get a gun. You have to not be a fellon and not have been commited to a mental hospital. The laws already exist, they aren't fully enforced. If you pass new laws they new laws will exist that won't be fully enforced. The net result is that just as many nutcases and thugs have guns, but you may be criminalizing otherwise lawsabiding, peaceful good citizens for no reason. Why do gun owners oppose new laws? Because there are already a whole shitload of them and they're hard to keep track of. If I happen to have a common type of ammo used here in my gym bag because a round fill in the pocket at the range, when I cross the river a mile away into the next state, I would go to jail. No more restrictive laws are needed. The laws are plenty restrictive enough. We need enforcement. We need to keep violent criminals locked up. (to do that we need to release non-violent drug offenders, but that's another topic).
