  1. No shit - I was one of those kids. My parents nor I had the resources to send me to college or trade school. And the economy in the early 80's SUCKED. It was the best opportunity I had to make myself a better person and citizen. You'd rather I have gone on welfare? And as far as I know, the majority of the persons who enlist do NOT do so out of "economic desperation". (FWIW, thanks to the experience and education I received in the military, I earn a very decent living now.) The pay sucks, the working conditions suck, and most of what I hear is how the general population is anything but safe and happy. But it was the most rewarding job I ever had, and I don't regret a single minute of it. Both came from the Vietnam era. Along with this - "We the unwilling, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have done so much, with so little, for so long, that we are now fully qualified to anything with nothing." Yep - Black humor. Or is it? Kinda rings true today when troops are improvising armor out of scrap. Another Marine motto - "Improvise, Adapt, and Overcome." And I'd also like to know what the "clone" comment is supposed to mean. 2. I saw them about 5 or so years ago - I'm anxious to see how much the show has evolved. And we were sitting quite a ways back, too. I'm excited! Easy Does It
  3. OK - This cast comes off Wednesday (just in time for Christmas! WooHoo!) I broke the tib and fib just above the ankle joint and tore up some ligaments at the same time when I rolled my ankle (sideways) on a landing. Been in the cast about 5-1/2 weeks. I've been non-weight bearing ever since. I'd like to ask other folks who have had severe ankle injuries about braces, how long it took to get back up to speed, etc. My job requires me to be on my feet ALOT and wear steel-toed shoes. I usually wear high-topped boots. I'd also like to get back in the air as soon as possible, but I'd like to minimize the risk of re-injury. I'm strongly considering going up one canopy size. (Anybody got a 170 Spectre to trade for a 150 Spectre?) Any input is appreciated, and I will have a TON of questions for the doc on Wednesday. Thanks! -Lenny Easy Does It
  4. Amazing what a little "motivation" will do, eh?
  5. Sharon, her Mom, and I have tickets to tomorrows' show in Chicago - (12/19) Third row from the stage, right about center. It says "poncho section" This is gonna be FUN!!! Easy Does It
  6. My Mom is straight laced, and I'm definitely the black sheep among my brother and sisters. (And I have some strange siblings-) My dad was a bit of a rebel in his youth, after leaving the Army at the end of WW II, he rode all over the country on an Indian motorcycle for a while and eventually settled down after getting all that out of his system. Before leaving the Army, however, he flew from Hawaii to the mainland as a waist gunner on a bomber. (I can't remember which model-) It was the only ride he could get. He loved it and tried to enlist the the Air Corps, but due to sinus problems he couldn't pass the physical. So he purchased the bike and started riding for a while. So I guess I get my "rebel" streak from Dad. When I decided to join the military, he encouraged the Air Force. Easy Does It
  7. Uh - no. AFTER we got operations set up and flew a ton of missions, and AFTER we got shot at by a few SAMs while flying low track, and AFTER we kept the planes FMC despite poor support from RAF Mildenhal, we set up a makeshift volleyball net in the alley between two buildings. And one of our guys had weights and a weight bench shipped in at his own expense, so we could do some weight lifting while waiting for the order to scramble to refuel NATO aircraft at a moments' notice. Oh yeah, we had the luxury of a grill we built out of 55 gallon drums. Yeah, we had it good. No body here in the states even knew we were supporting NATO forces this way, until now. Conditions were better during Desert Storm. (I was there, too, with the 4404th Composite Wing, (Provisional)). We were flying out of a French air base. Heard my first sonic boom from up close there, and watched a pilot loop a helicopter, too. Pretty neat place to be. Had some good times with the locals, got drunk watching football (soccer) with the owner of the hotel we were staying in. Ate some outrageously good food. Easy Does It

  10. We helped set things up at Istres back in '94. (509th Air Refueling Squadron) We were flying refueling missions in support of the whole Bosnian thing. We had a great time there, and a wonderful relationship with the French. I know I worked my ass off but still had a good time! Easy Does It
  11. My daughter Sarah started last spring at 16 (she's 17 now-) with an hour in the tunnel - She jumps as well as some folks I know with over 100 jumps. If you're ever up to Sky Knights, look us up! Easy Does It
  12. And I'm looking to upsize to a 170! Let me know, perhaps you'd like to take my Spectre up for a few jumps this spring, we can trade for a weekend or two sometime- Easy Does It
  13. I still log, but don't include much info unless it's something remarkable, or when I do a coach jump. (I'm just getting into coaching, so I'm learning alot from the newbies-) Don't know how long I'll keep it up. Easy Does It

Family Guy has done similiar things - Like the good-night sequence from the Sound of Music. My 17 year old Sarah didn't get that joke at all. Poor girl. The little messages in the openings are cool, too. "Contains 80 percent entertainment by volume" Easy Does It
